@@FeeIRG Yeah, and I have ignored the mtx in other games and enjoyed them too. That's not my point at all. I think it's fine. My point here is that gaming journalism historically suffers from an extreme lack of transparency. And now that gaming journalism is being inherited in a significant way to independent content creators I am just a little surprised that the lack of transparency is being inherited too. The issue here is that: 1. Review copies were handed to a lot of content creators. 2. Information about the mtx was given to at least some of them, or was given in such a way that you needed to pay attention to what was sent to you to learn about it and not everyone bothered to do so, but some did. 3. Not a single one of the reviewers bothered to even mention them. I'll decide for each particular game if I care about how it's monetized, just don't keep that information from me.

Pretty much a mirror of the first one as well as what people felt with a lot of FromSoftware games. Hell Capcom games in general I think fall under that. Take Monster Hunter. Great AMAZING game, but its not for everyone. MH before World came out was very much a niche genre and even now is the less common one. Take Soulsborne games. Same thing, people either absolutely love the brutality of it, or they absolutely hate it. D1 got the initial hook on people. D3 took everything great about the past games and brought more but even better. And then Elden Ring came out to branch out to a wider audience in a similar way to MH World. I see this game as being the D3 of DD1. It's a game meant to be like the first but more and better. It's not here, at least the impressions I'm getting, to necessarily get a new and wide audience but instead bring an expanded "true vision" version of Dragons Dogma for the fans. If we ever get a 3rd one (assuming the 2nd is a success) or a new game in a similar vein, thats the one that will likely be the 'Elden Ring' of the DD franchise by hitting a wider target audience.

I wanna pick up everything and not have to take multiple trips back and forth to a place just because I ran out of inventory space. Did it with DD1, will probably do it with DD2. You think it's bad here, try saying something critical about this game on reddit. I love fantasy RPGs, so I will still probably give this game a try. But most reviews say lack of enemy variety, universally bad performance, a weird marriage of the best character creator ever made but a single character slot, janky pawn AI, etc. A lot of these problems existed in DD1, but get shouted down by the rabid fanbase that for some reason don't want their game to be improved.

@@mytop3467it’s ok to enjoy a game as it is ok for people to dislike it. The cult following of DD has been pretty rabid about any criticism. From the perspective of people coming in fresh to a new DD game they see it through the modern lense. DD2 is not modern. It’s the first game again, some people will love that others will hate it. But it is a dated design with little improvement. They could have made it an actual open world that is fully functional explorable but they went the direction of path driven “open world”. That’s a tough pill for people to swallow. 7 seconds between encounters when you are just trying to travel gets old very quickly and can keep you from enjoying the atmosphere. Enemy variety has been stated to be fairly low which means more repetitiveness. Quests are still extremely basic. Finally, mid 20-30fps on a 4090 in cities is inexcusable. Apparently it’s actually a CPU bottleneck, but it seems to be more at the engine level considering there isn’t much simulation actually happening and 13900k’s are still in those low frames. Don’t let hype blind you. It’s more of the same which means it will be fun for old fans, but does little to innovate and expand to bring in new players too.

He should be absolutely livid at the idea of microtransactions in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME, but instead, he praises the game and continues to lie and be shady about his beforehand knowledge of it. Sadly, people apparently love DD2 and are willing to allow morally bankrupt practices so they can play their fun games. Not wanting to get on capcoms bad side. Especially those higher up game reviewers who have no risk to them because they have high-end flawless gaming rigs and receive games early and for free so they can review them. We saw similar thing happening with Baldur's Gate 3 last year, where some people complained how the game is turn-based and demanded Larian to add option for real time combat. Personally I'm glad that Capcom is doing their own thing, instead of following what's popular. Gaming industry would become really boring if every game played the same.

It does have dodge-rolls with Thief and it does have fast travel, just seems very limited. I'd be fine if the fast travel worked like in DD1 where you had an eternal ferrystone, but the game forcing you to backtrack sounds very tedious. Backtracking on foot was tedious in DD1 and it'll be even more tedious in DD2 with how much bigger the world is. People arguing that a lack of fast travel promotes exploration are on crack because the only thing less fast travel adds is more backtracking. Almost no game lets you fast travel everywhere, you need to go and discover a place first to be able to fast travel there.
