He said that he actually spent some time exploring and just playing the game instead of rushing bosses, which as I'm sure you know is a great way to get better in general. I think that combined with determination to learn bosses ends up looking like his gameplay now. He still probably died to Godfrey at least 40 times, and he said during Malenia this video was over the course of 3 days... it looks pretty real. You can tell its him because he has a huge reliance on Bloodhounds Step, but he won't use it as much when he notices it's not as effective against certain bosses.

Coming back to say this, for all the people saying he faked it: I don't know how much I buy the video time clips. But the most convincing piece of evidence to me is that not one Malenia fight was shown in full. You have to fight her FAST to get to stage 2 without her using Waterfowl dance, and Jynxzi was not speed staggering her back to back. And there is absolutely ZERO CHANCE someone who didn't even realize Malenia was healing from attacks learned how to evade Waterfowl dance. And he's not a tank build so Waterfowl would ABSOLUTELY kill him on its own.
