As a ram main, all I can say is you are absolutely right about that not having fun because of a lack of confidence in other roles comment. My ass can't play anything but tank, and I find myself wanting to tear off my skin in most games. Also, respect for putting yourself through this shit, everyone hates mauga so you definitely became public enemy #1 for many people. Hopefully the wheel gives you something more fun next time.

Great video. His strongest counters are definitely ana and dva because of anti nade and defense matrix, respectively. Hog is a wash. People like to say that Sigma counters him, but when he opens his mouth to eat projectiles, just feed him your foot and dance around his cooldowns. Is Mauga a problem? Well... it's complicated. Overwatch has changed, there are ways to shut him down with ana, but I think what people don't take into context about Mauga is what preceeded him. He's oppressive, yes, but so were the very boring poke and one-shot metas that we had before him. The difference is, unlike sniping from off angles Mauga REQUIRES engagement with the objective. He's a nice change of pace from sniperwatch. The hardest thing about him is trying to get your own team to capitalize on some of your aggression into squishier characters. I get why people don't like Mauga, He's powercreep incarnate. But he's.... fun because he's proactive. I like everything about him, his design is what I want to be irl, his stomp is the most satisfying thing to execute and I LOVED your montage, and even his personality feels like a diagetic statement on Overwatch's compositions, diametrically opposed to the sniper crowd: "Stop overthinking, just get up close and personal and have some fun" and he is a fun character, while not neccessarily balanced, still has his drawbacks that make him feel like he fits. Discord, Nade, some things that you have to find answers around. He's not the most defensive tank, but it's interesting that he's made to compensate by being more offensive. He's an answer to metas that were too hyperfocused on immobile one-shot characters.

In fact he has lot of conters to kill him or nullify his healing factor, but people doesn't want to admit it and instead it's more easy to complain "he's op pls nerf" Mauga doesn't have any shields and an inmense hit box, making him very vulnerable in many situations: Dva defense matrix - Ana nade/sleep - Zenyatta Discord orb - Reaper pew-pew madaf* - Sigma big rock/black hole/barriers, Orisa forti/jav spin. yeah in 1v1 Mauga could win, but we know in rare situations you'll fight 1v1 in ow. He's really fun to play and like you said: to compensate his lack of shields/block abilities, he's more offensive.

The main reason why I main him is because he is almost like the Heavy Assault from Archives which I absolutely loved back in the golden days. I will say this, as a Mauga Connisseur. Wait till the Dva Dive Meta ends. Mauga can actually be seriously fun, and pretty cool to play, but this season doesn't work for him. Wait till Sig or ANYONE else is Meta, THEN you can play him. Zarya and Dva are your only 2 supercounters, you can fight back against everything else.

One of my favorite interactions with mauga, which I'm honestly surprised isn't more well known, is that he can be pulled out of his ultimate with LW. It's actually super clutch, trapping the enemies, being pulled, and then everyone just shoots the enemy team like fish in a barrel. The only thing is mauga can't walk back in, or he'll be chained again. Figured this out by complete happenstance too lol

When this video popped into my feed, my first thought was “Why? Why would you subject yourself and the people you play with to that man?” I still think that, but despite the editing being slightly rough around the edges (in my opinion, though wtf do I know about editing), I found it pretty damn charming. You have the healing ability active while at almost full hp shooting the Rhein shield while you’re retreating faster than your team is so you end up leaving them tankless with no cooldowns. 10:45 Your Ana is tanking for you, and she did it well. YOU CAGED THE REIN IM IN TEARS 11:27 if only there was an ability that could help you here… AND IMMEDIATELY BLAME THE SUPPORT! No shade btw.
