For the pumpkin and melon farm you can make the collection system with a hopper minecart with rails instead of all hoppers it can save on iron. And for the top of the farm instead of note blocks, you can just use Redstone dust and any block. I don't know if this is the same for java.

Joel, here’s a tip for building: instead of using torches there’s a command that gives you Light blocks, look it up, and you can see them. They are kind of like barrier blocks, but act as torches.
