Hey Rick tough luck man just very tense atmosphere seemed like it got you too caught up in your thoughts. Do you think having a close friend to caddy you just to try and lighten the mood would have helped loosen you up during your round? I would love to see more competition in your videos I'm rooting for you man. I've been watching your content for about a year and a half since that is about the time I started getting into golf and I really appreciate all the tips and planning of your shots that you show it's helped me really find a comfortable swing for myself just need more practice to get consistency and maybe a lesson or two of how to hit my fairway woods and hybrids cause I chunk or top those all the time.

You did great, Rick. I played a Senior US Open qualifier here in the US 11 years ago. Broke 80 on two practice rounds, shot 90 for the tournament! I don’t think people realize how much nerves affect you under pressure surrounded by spectators. Only takes four bad holes to kill a round!

Great work Rick. A couple of takeaways - 1. DEFINITELY do this again next year. Despite what most of the goobers on here say, you play some decent golf! AND it is so awesome to watch you compete! 2. Shooting that score, on that course, with that many people around watching is a job well done! I'm a big fan of yours, but also Finchy, Fryer, Carter, and they also had a tough time with the pressure. You guys make teaching/entertainment golf videos for a living, it's fun to watch you compete and try hard, but nobody is GENUINELY expecting you to go out and shoot 64 or anything 😊. And finally 3. THANK YOU for putting these videos out there. Whether you play well or poorly, every Friday there's a new Break 75. It's a testament to your commitment to your fan base as well as your integrity as a golfer. KEEP IT UP!!!!

Honestly, I think that was a bloody good effort. That back nine was filled with birdie looks that on another day when they fall you shoot an amazing number. The two big numbers hurt for sure but there’s a lot to be said for not only being nervous because it’s Open Qualifying, but you’re filming it, you had bigger crowds no doubt than others due to your profile and you handled it very well. Saw a skippy, smiling Rick clearly loving that back nine (forget the 18th). I’d go again next year!

Rick, I am a long time viewer all the way back to your days teaching in Manchester. I seldom comment but today just want to let you know that I really have enjoyed being able to watch your game and career develop. I remember your first time doing open qualifying and it's great to see you doing competitive golf again, even if only briefly. Just feels like a full-circle moment as just a couple months ago I remember doing US Open qualifiers for the first time and I just feel like I've grown up golfing always looking up to you in one way or another, given that I was just a teen when I first started watching you when I was trying to figure out how to fix my slice. Despite how the results have gone do not feel bad about yourself... you shot a very impressive score and showed passion all the way through. You are doing more than most of us ever will and I commend you for not only going out there and trying to qualify but posting it all here for the world to see! I love your content because it's not just highlights, it's real relatable golf and we all have our ups and downs and that's a big facet of life and golf is very similar in that sense. You are a big inspiration in my personal adventures of golf and I'm sure many others would say the same. Also, I think you should try qualifying again next year. Having a year to prep, though don't drain yourself obviously, you can at the very least mentally refine your game in prep for your next time qualifying and having something like this in my opinion is a great way to keep yourself motivated just having something off in the distance to be working towards. Just an idea. Thank you for all you do, keep up the great work.

Rick, you are one of us … clearly. And that’s why you get all of that love and support. There are so many golfers in your community that can relate to that. We all play - everyone within his/her capability - in >95% of the time ~3 great holes, ~12 okayish ones and then ~3 are just a desaster. Bringing your full skills consistently on 18 is tough. And your round is just a reflection of that reality. I wish you try again - and I also wish that you would find a Golfclub where you play a few tournaments off the camera - keep it up!! ❤

I want to see anyone here who have snarky things to say share their experiences with COMPETATIVE golf. Just like how hitting it great on the range doesn't translate into a real round, playing great when you're having fun with buddies doesn't translate into competition. I haven't read too many snarky comments to be fair, but there are many supportive ones ... but I think you are under-estimating the amount of golfers who play competitions in fairness. Last weeks comp my club, a field that has 71 entrants, and my net +1 was only good enough for 40th. A lot of players and a lot of good scoring. In my 4 years golfing, and currently at 13.7 on the index, I guess I have played 100 competitions, in a variety of formats and at a number of courses, which include Opens / Pro-Ams and Mizuno events in the UK. Rick must have played thousands of comps.

Commiserations Rick - I think you've physically got what it takes to qualify for the Open. 💪 It might be worthwhile hiring a sports psychologist to help you with preventing disaster holes snowballing over to the rest of your game? Great video though, love the fact that you concentrated on your own game rather than entertaining us with your commentary. Good luck in your future endeavours! 🍀

You were one of the first golf guys I discovered on social media and love your content, Rick. Thanks for sharing this. Some questions/comments: 1. What was the most challenging part of this round? The spectators? The "tournament" vibe? The course conditions? 2. My perspective as a watcher is limited by the video and never playing this course, but it didn't seem (emphasis on "seem") like an especially difficult course for ball strikers. What would you attribute your mistakes to? Simple mishits, nerves, or something else? 3. What led to your decision to tee off on 18 with an iron and not a driver? Your driver had been right a lot of the day and it seems you could've targeted a line that would've set you up nice for a nice approach with your 2nd shot. As always, I love watching your real, honest content and for amateur golfers like myself, relatable. Keep going...you have the game for it!

Solid effort Rick, ... if I could offer anything - it would be... you need to find a George Bryan "go 2 club", ie: 3 wood or similar off the tee... hitting 3 iron from the tee only to find the fairway a couple of times from about 10 attempts from the tee killed your round and your ability to recover the round... Surely grinding with a favorite club until you have something with a low dispersion pattern has to be better than a 3 iron leaving you so far back and in less than ideal lie's...! Hitting some fairways would have bred some confidence in your game which could have translated on the score card. Really hard to birdie when you are always on the backfoot after the tee shot.

I agree, even Justin Rose said to him that tour players aren’t laying up anymore. If you are going to end up in trouble better to be 60 yards closer and in trouble. Hitting less than driver off the tee isn’t worth it.

Great video! I have never seen you slice the ball, but I have been there. The pressure gets to anyone as I have played in many tournaments over the years. You did good with the wind blowing and kept a calm face. Even though inside I know you were burning and felt like you had to make every shot. That is the game of golf. Your next round will be superb!!! Golf is a game of ONE SHOT AT A TIME. Every shot is the game...My grandfather was a pro. He once told me. If you think of the next shot before you hit the shot you are on. You already lost a shot for that hole. Focus on that one shot ONLY

I get excited when I break 100…..and I’ve been playing longer than you’ve been alive. I had a period in my 40s and 50s when I played fairly well (80’s) but I only broke 80 twice with 79s. I’m in my 70s now and just don’t give a damn what I shoot. I go to the golf course for giggles and love to play with my equally bad old goat buddies. It’s a great game and you have contributed to it in more ways than you can count. Looking forward to the next video.
