From my personal experience starting from index/ring. For some reason I had formed a habit of almost galloping when ever I do streams. This causes every other note on stream to be a 100 score, killing my accuracy in the long run. I am also an alternate tapper (not full alt because I do like to start with my index a lot), and I have issues with low bpm streams and finger control. I avoided index/middle because I figured since my index/ring fingers are similar in length, I'd feel more comfortable. I realized that doesn't matter to me because when I switched to index/middle I got adusted to how it felt to play in under a week. Since the index/middle fingers (minus the thumb) are the more dexterous fingers on our hand since we use them all the time, finger control and low bpm were not issues to me anymore. Now I'm just working out the spontaneous mis-inputs and build up my speed. At the end of the day, it's all preferences, and what works for you.
@mikeymladi92792 жыл бұрын
Well I normally Single tap, unless there's a stream, but I every now and then I would alternate a bit or just pretend that there's a stream if there are these high bpm jumps that I can barely single tap through..

galloping comes from lack of muscle memory and issues with dexterity/flexibility, if you are using anything ring related, be it index ring or middle ring (for you 7k folks), you need to utilize wrist rotation which will make up for your lack of dexterity in ring finger
@redeal65812 жыл бұрын
@@karolbomba6704 since I play 7k as well as osu I could probably play ring index pretty easily though my speed would just not be up to par. You just rotate your wrist more since it is easier for your hand than to use the finger's muscle, though I think it is just part of technique.

In case anyone is wondering about this for mania 4k, I don’t really recommend tbh (from my experience at least). I used it for a couple years when I first started on robeats mobile since you cant really use pointer and middle on a tablet. There’s nothing necessarily wrong about it; it felt comfortable and manageable. The only thing is that it uses more wrist action which I found more draining for your stamina for jacks and jumpstreams etc. It also seems arguably slower then pointer and middle, but that might have to do more with tapping technique. That’s a big nono since conserving stamina is pretty crucial for mania. Also, once I made the switch to pointer and middle on pc, I thought my skill level had increased a lot (a lot easier to have thumb/finger support for jacks and faster manip things u need to do). Anyways, that’s just my experience. Like he said in the vid, you could try if you’re curious and go gain some insight yourself; this is just something to consider. Edited to make things a little cleaner*
@karolbomba67042 жыл бұрын
Index+ring does indeed "use" more wrist action, though that's not how it works. It introduces more wrist rotation, which if anything, should help with your stamina and control. Well, it is your experience and I definitely agree that your choice of switching to index+middle is a good one, since as I see it, index+ring was far from optimal for you.
@Slippity2 жыл бұрын
You’re definitely right it used wrist rotation which is better for stamina. That’s why it would work well for standard. I said it’s more draining for jacks and jumpstreams since you can’t exactly use wrist rotation for that. It’s also true you can use wrist rotation with index and middle (maybe less well), but there’s also the added benefit of the finger support that you can’t “rotate” for. Then again, I’m sure other people could make it work somehow with index and ring. Of course there probably are still many great players that use that.
@Tnepi2 жыл бұрын
@@Slippity I'm an osumania main that actually uses index ring finger because of the uncomfort I feel because of the sheer finger length difference and less dexterity I seem to have with index middle, although its hard to compare now to when I first started using it since its my muscle memory. I do notice in my case its not necessarily stamina draining for me to do jacks, but with speed jack patterns such as mini jacks and long jacks, it doesn't feel the most natural (mostly and especially when just starting out using index and ring.) Its also important to note that its harder to do vibro because its harder to apply pressure into your forearms unless you have flawless technique, and good twitch genes. If you're wondering why Im talking so much about it, I just haven't seen anybody besides me actively use ring index in the mania community so its interesting when I see someone talk about it

I almost completely quit osu before I switched to ring index because when I played middle index, my hand would hurt after not even an hour. I was always afraid to switch, because I saw most if not all speed players played with middle index, and that’s the aspect I really wanted to improve on. It was only until ppl like mrekk switched that I gave it a shot, and I really enjoy it. It took a bit to get used to but I haven’t had any major pains in my hands anymore, and I can enjoy the game without worrying about breaking my hand.

Im sorry for replying to a 4 months old comment but I have THE EXACTLY SAME EXPERIENCE. I feel like im getting slower instead of faster the more I play middle index lol. On top of that it's almost as if I have no stamina. To fix this problem i thought tap+x would help but honestly it wasn't worth learning since it's VERY difficult. And when i thought about quitting(and maybe start playing mania mostly) I realised that I could actually tap way faster with ring index. I hope this gives me a chance to play the game...

@zaalseen47972 жыл бұрын
As a mania player (and quite a good one) that mains index+ring, I can say that it introduces more wrist rotation, which probably will help with control, whether it be controlling slow streams or odd rhythms. BUT, when you gain muscle memory, for either, index+middle will most likely prove to be just as good if not better. If you are looking for actual improvement, try fixing your habits and technique, before completely switching to a technique that will end up not being optimal. If you are confident in your judgement whether it be your knowledge or experience, or have hit some kind of skill plateau then a technique change of this degree may be good for you

Been struggling with tapping speed, looked around to find any advice on how to improve, and TL;DR: I was told the average person should be able to do 160-180 BPM from the start, so no need to practise speed, just "play more" thanks, would love the 30 minutes of my life back from each of the long reads and videos I watched hoping people would have some cool maps or ideas on how to actually improve my physical speed. had people tell me it's a stamina issue (cuz the talk was related to streams) and it simply is not. I cannot do 140 BPM streams for even 1-2 seconds. It is without a doubt, 100% a speed issue, no matter what everyone else says online, same with higher star rating Jump maps, I havent played Osu for very long, but the aiming part of jump maps has never been an issue, neither has tapping to match the note during the cursor movement (used tablet, but pen got yoinked at some point, so went back to mouse+keyboard) but the sheer speed at which I need to tap even on jumps was simply too fast whenever i played a fast 6 star or any 7 ish star jump maps. I also have short tendons in my hands. I am one of those people that cannot bend his Pinky without also partially bending my ring finger. I cannot do the Star trek hand sign either. so I thought maybe that has something to do with it. So I wanted to try ring + index, as they are to my limited anatomical knowledge, further apart and hopefully the issue of my tendons could be solved that way. My friend was bantering and making fun of my "old and slow hands" since i couldnt do 140 BPM death streams, nor do any streams maps really. I can do bursts by timing the first burst tap at the apex of 300 point range, while the last will then land at the very end of the 300 point range. but obviously for longer bursts, and streams this trick simply isn't possible anymore, at most it worked somewhat with 5-bursts. So i tried ring+index, and low and behold with 0 practise I would do 140 BPM, altho awkwardly, since i have 0 finger control the rythm was off, and I finger locked etc, but I could physically do the speed, and even 160 was somewhat possible. but i wasn't sure if this would cause issues with other skills in Osu. would this cause finger locking issues with other techniques? how about finger control, since due to my short tendons i dont have great control of my pinky+ring finger seperately, would this cause stamina issues that my pinky simply won't be able to sit still and therefore just consume more energy and generate more lactic acid? so I googled if other players had tried index+ring finger, to see what peoples opinions were, and this was the top result. I am very happy with the video, and I will try to continue playing with it for a while, despite the taunts from my friends about the weird play style. I appreciate the down to earth and realistic approach to play style, and hope this will allow me to learn how to actually play stream maps above 120 BPM. Thank you! :)

I have quite the story when it comes to tapping. I started playing osu with laptop keyboard and bought a osu keypad a few months after. I played with index+middle all the time when I noticed that I fingerlock all the god damn time with my middle. I tried various things. Different postures, tapping techs and even get into details on how much pressure I should apply. It was so frustrating and switched to ring+index. And it was awesome. However, the same thing happend with my ring finger. I lost all fingercontrol and other tapping relating skills 2 months later. So I switched back to middle+index. After a month of playing it was all good and I was better than before. But then again, right now I fingerlock again with middle and im thinking about switching back to ring+index. Im not sure since im just making a break for 1 week after I started fingerlocking again and lost all tapping skill. I dont think breaks will do any good or change anything. But I recently started to learn mapping and having fun with that while im on break.

It's hard to explain, But what I use to tap right now is: J K Yes I use J (ring and middle finger) & K (Index finger)... it's really weird but you'll get it, today I passed my first 8* map using my ring finger instead of my middle finger (Because of 279 bpm burst, my middle finger is for fast af bpm and middle finger for low slow bpm or for alternating) Depending on your keyboard... J K keys for me are somewhat larger in size, (I use HyperX Alloy Origins red switches). I started getting pain on my left hand using my middle finger for fast stuff so... yeah. It wasn't tough to learn for me to relearn tapping with my ring finger because I started watching BTMC using his middle finger and I said: I wanna try that too, then I got into stream practice maps and I was using H & K (instead of J K), my tapping technique changed a lot since I started alternating my middle finger & my ring finger. I used ring index like 1.5 months and honestly it didnt work for me. I gotta say my finger control was 1000x better with ring index but every other skillset became worse so i am playing index middle now again and i imoroved on finger control like this so i think it only matters wheter you are comfortable lr not. Also i had a lot of pain playing with it so i had to quit anyways.
