I would suggest playing the 2-cent denom or higher on multi-denom machines......stay away from the 1-cent denom as much as possible. Actually the 5-cent seems to work best on the multi-denom machines.....but the bets on SOME machines can be steep. But 2-cent is a very viable deal and much much better according to Nevada Gaming stats turned in monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
