AC Shadows is interesting because it seems almost emblematic of the current stylistic crisis the series is facing. On the one hand you have your typical assassin character with Naoe who climbs rooftops and stealthily takes out her enemies. On the other hand there's Yasuke, who's a hulking warrior that can crush anything in his path through melee combat. It's like Ubisoft is trying to please both the older fans (stealth players) and the newer fans (3rd person combat players) without commiting to a specific gameplay style, and I can't help but think that the style the majority of players pick in AC Shadows will be the style Ubisoft commits to in the future.

I stopped playing Assassins Creed with Valhalla. I was enjoying the start of the game, thought I though the pacing was glacial, but when the game switched to a very poorly thought out Valhalla with even worse thought out gods, I stopped playing and never went back. If I could skip all of the Valhalla parts I'd likely try again, but it was dreadful. On the other hand, I am very excited about Tales of the Shire. There is just something about relaxing with a cozy sim game after hours of slashing/gun-play in the apocalypse/alien world/past that is so relaxing.

Sometimes it's hard for me to tell if content creators genuinely like or dislike a game, or if they're only saying what the think their audience wants to hear. Not saying Jake is one of these people, but it happens with so many games that it's becoming frustrating. Like Assassins Creed - the internet has already decided it's bad & should be reviewed bad, therefore I fully expect 95% of content creators to look for reasons to confirm that assessment. Now if the game is 1st party or an exclusive associated with 1 platform, then sure, you'll have no shortage of people waiting to tell you X game is overrated/underrated. But for major 3rd party games, especially Western ones, people do not respond kindly to those who deviate from the predetermined internet position. Just look at critic reviews. You'll see people say "Omg these guys were paid to bash it/don't know what they're doing/aren't fans of the series/etc. They gave it a 7/10 even though it's got an 80% on Metacritic!" They want ALL reviews to say the same thing. Outliers are hacks. Every review is there only to confirm a bias. Again, I trust Jake & know he's not doing this, but I see it so often online that I'm losing trust in general.

Sometimes i feel like the only person who thinks ubisoft almost always(i miss when ghost recon was good)makes good games. The problem is they have a ceiling because their writing could be better, their all to similar, and they take a near really good game and stretch it 20% longer with filler. I can't even complain about the microtranactions because I've never been compelled to pay for esthetics. Their dlcs are always decent and sometimes you get lucky and get the odyssey dlc or blood dragon. I get shaming greedy companies but i don't think enough people give them credit for their actual games.
@Swerg203 ай бұрын
You hit the nail on the head. Ubisoft makes decent games, yeah they haven't been amazing for awhile but calling them straight up horrible or bad is nonsense. Plus there is a market of casual gamers that their stuff really appeals to. Not every game needs to be Elden Ring or Baldurs Gate 3 levels of great.
@WdawgSmith3 ай бұрын
Yeah Ubisoft is good for a guaranteed 7 or above I didn’t like mirage at all I loved loved origins and odyssey I think people mistake nostalgia for good games Ac 1 was really bad Ac 2 was great I thought they really got it right with origins But that’s an unpopular opinion I guess The issue with shadows and rise of the ronin for that matter (non ubi i know) is they can’t live up to ghosts of Tsushima It’s one of the most beautiful games ever made The combat was terrific Their take on the open world stuff was unique (Disguised at times but still…. Perfect doesn’t exist) and just really fresh and good. There will never be another samurai Japanese open world game as good as that in my book Unless it’s GoT 2 But Ubisoft games are usually good They have as many games above 80 on metacritic as anyone does over the past twenty years They get most of their hate from people who don’t like the company and its ways And then they relentlessly bash every game Even while they are pre ordering the next one I felt the people who wanted to go back to early AC were blinded by nostalgia Mirage came out and it was similar to early AC but people refused to believe it So they just lied and said “yeah but this isn’t really what we were talking about” Yeah it was and it’s just not that fun Maybe another company can make stealth REALLY good But it’s not Ubisoft They do light stealth but mostly just straight up combat
@michaelmonstar42763 ай бұрын
I'm with that. But it's just that... they have some actual good to great games, except those fall outside of their biggest flagship releases. Which would be titles like "Gods & Monsters", "The Lost Crown", "Frontiers of Pandora" (although it's a bit "Far Cry" like), the artsy "Rayman"-games (which have been too long ago), of course the ANNO-franchise that has been very solid, and now "Outlaws" will probably be a solid one as well. - And that's not to say that the biggest ones, that is "Assassin's Creed" and "Far Cry" and such, are bad. They vary. But it's just that they've been pushing them out so hard, with "AC" getting one every 1-2 years since the first one, with the exception between "Valhalla" and "Mirage" (where I guess they were considering what to do next), and that's just the main titles, not even the sort of spin-offs and VR-things and whatnot, and actually a very similar case for "Far Cry" (with the period between 2 and 3 being the longest). - And those, while a lot of artistry goes into them, they just needed to "top" it every time, so they became bigger and bigger and more bloated and people just got tired of them and started ridiculing them. Ubisoft, as a company, just doesn't know when to stop, and it doesn't help that they do stupid stuff in other areas, like business and products and marketing. - So the games getting rather stale or unwelcome, in combination with their image, just makes the general public decide that they're going to already dislike their products no matter what. - But yea, it's true that their games aren't actually as terrible as people make them out to be. And it's definitely not nearly all of them. - People, especially gamers in public, just love to be picky and selective and they will spin everything their way just to be spiteful. It's a false pretense and just plain hypocrisy as well. But as for their games, yea, they have their good and bad parts. Writing/storytelling is often a problem, but then they put it in amazing worlds and often get great actors and composers and all that. But then the direction or gameplay is not up to par. It's always something and that's a shame. - If only the games would get more time to develop, in terms of considering everything, as well as quality-control, then they'd probably be at a much better level. - But Ubisoft corporate has to churn them out. Sadly not even spreading them between different studios seems to help much... And again, I don't hate the games, but I want them to be better.

For me it’s just not at all worth $70. Whenever I play a Ubisoft game nowadays it just feels like something I’ve played before already with a different coat of paint, and generally just not as well done as some other games that have already succeeded at what Ubisoft is copying from them. They’re good time wasters and enjoyable in a certain type of way but just not something I’m really super excited about anymore. I’m sure Shadows will be a decent game, but we’ve already got sekiro and Tsushima which were both fantastic games made with a lot of love and not tied to a nearly 2 decade old storyline that has been lost in translation by now. Ubisoft just doesn’t take risks or innovate or push the boundaries even though they have the resources necessary and it’s because they know they will continue to profit by churning out above average, but entirely-too-safe games.

Multiple KZbinrs are saying Outlaws is good. This game is getting an unfair kick in the arse because grown arse men think the main character is ugly which I guess means it's a bad game. These people are on one hand usually in the right but then there's something like this and the bandwagoning is in full effect and they can't get out of their own way. It's a frickin' semi-ugly character, so just ignore it and play the game and judge it on its merits. Don't be like Asmongold and discount it because it doesn't have lightsabers in it. He's a complete moron when it comes to his opinion on Star Wars. He's narrowminded and is a tourist. I love the guy, but his SW chatter annoys me sometimes. He asks who wants to play a scoundrel?
