I played with a friend and 2 strangers there in early 90s. I shot 110 feeling like I'd not played that badly. My mate stopped scoring after 10. Of the strangers 1 walked off after 7 the other snapped a club in a pot bunker, lost a ball a hole but laughed all the way through. It was a "bit" windy and drizzled all day. Golf is maddening!

First class entertainment as always Matt, don’t worry about the golf pal, it’s secondary. Used to play this course in the 70’s with my late Dad, went on holiday here from Inverness and used to buy a week ticket and live on the place, truly fantastic golf course.

I love Matt’s sense of humour. On one of the other KZbin golf channels (Tubes & Ang..) they ask for a dream fourball and I have to say i’d love to play with MF, P Finch and Carter (with or preferably without cameras) for the golf, advice (not allowed to tell me to “pack it in”) banter and after round pints.

Shooting low scores is not about keeping score or even thinking about the score. It's about how many in play shots you can shoot in a row, if you can keep discipline to recover, and then go for in play again. Par, under par, over par, eagles and birdies are all distractions and bullshit. They encourage emotion and Golf is about stoicism. Golf is an exercise in purity, peace, discipline, and focus. Golf is spiritual. A pure golf swing will get you into heaven.

I do hope someone raked that green side bunker on 18 before you hit the pub, because that was the sloppiest excuse for raking I've seen in a while... 😮😱😭 Unfortunately that's the way I seem to find most bunkers when I play and it really gets my juices going... 😖 If you as a content creator/influencer show people it's ok to leave a bunker like that, I'm not that surprised that I keep finding unraked bunkers...

With climate change, links golf is changing. Obviously the UK is now windier, making links courses even more difficult. The UK is also wetter in summer, and has been for over 10 years, this means rough doesn’t burn off the same as in the past. Links first cut rough is almost parkland, and the long stuff is thicker than previously. The course I played for 25 years is a seaside downland, so very high, plays as a links. Green fees have plummeted because the course was becoming unplayable for amateur golfers, I had a couple of tour pros give it a go, and they just laughed and said “you don’t play competitions in this” we did, and shouldn’t have done. The anemometer that measured wind speed, got destroyed by the wind😂😂. Our greens staff couldn’t keep up with grass cutting, 12 months a year, because we had warm wet winters, so the rough just got thicker. With energy costs, cutting grass is expensive, so fairways are not as wide, greens are made smaller. Courses such as St Andrews have a name to maintain green fees, other less known links must be struggling, my old course went from 800 members to 230 and greatly reduced green fees, despite never flooding, so only closed for fog. Your score was made more difficult, because green run offs, fed to semi rough, that previously wouldn’t have been there in summer, the classic putt or bump and run from off the green is disappearing. Hey ho, makes for entertainment on your channel.

I've never understood the logic of playing safe. Modern drivers are 1 of the easiest club's to hit. And provide such an advantage with distance. If you're playing to compensate for hitting bad shots. I don't think it's the best approach...
