Nintendo saw the creative solutions that people were using in BoTW to complete challenges and went "Let's make a whole game around that." I'm incredibly excited for this game and I'm so happy you guys were able to play a demo of it. Great commentary Steve.

@@corrinflakes9659 like a boss battle is one, a group of smaller enemies is one, a bokoblin camp or outpost. Essentially whenever there is a case where you’ve encountered enemies. The first time I left the Great Plateau in BOTW, I was amazed at the scale of what I was floating down into. TOTK takes that sense of scale and magnifies it to the sky. The most impressive thing I have seen so far is the software itself being able to render this scale from the sky. This game is beyond huge.

My husband and I have been watching the trailers, image releases, theory videos and everything with our eldest (she's almost 5). Watching her get mad excited, ask questions, seeing the anticipation rise in her during the trailers...she has a "Mastersword" she sleeps with. It's literally a cardboard kitchen roll 😂. Her imaginary friend is Link and sometimes Zelda. Experiencing this with her has been....deeply healing, exciting, and a bonding time. I cannot wait. We preordered earlier this week and she was jumping with joy haha.so were we ❤

Is it me, or does TotK look a lot cleaner that BotW in regards to the world? I feel it looks crisper, I can see distances ahead with better clarity that BotW and I feel the colors pop a bit more. Maybe, it's just a sensation, but I feel that vibe, also I really like the new HUD and menus, and I'm happy they changed it a little to make a better distinction between TotK and BotW.

I don't want to get too excited, but @ 10:04 you can see a target-like structure on the island above that is coming into view. It looks like a hook/clawshot target, and having that ability in TOTK would make the sky islands that much more fun to explore.

I noticed that too. Perhaps there will be some sort of grappling and pulling ability Link will get, since there doesn't seem to be the return of the traditional dungeon items. My Theory is that you can use the Sheikah like towers to shot Link up into the sky. It would give them a cool purpose besides teleporting to them and since they were used in botw to basically do the same thing (bring you to a high point to travel and watch your surroundings better) it would make sense. Also small note. At the start of this video you can see Link get shot into the air, so it’s likely there is an ability like this in the game. But of course Steve won’t tell us what it was^^

After collecting well over 500 korok seeds on my current playthrough of botw, I want no more yahaha. At least, I hope the reward this time is worth it. Why not allow us to have outfit sets for korok seeds? There are plenty of times in botw where I wish I could swap outfit sets on the fly. Actually Nintendo's very first Zelda game in 1984 was\ is considered the very first 'Open world game' , so is this other game called Altima, as confirmed by proffesor google. I also, never played the first zelda and i had no idea that it was even like that, i thought it was always linear, and im thinking a lot of people mistakingly thought the same too cuz most like me started with Ocarina. I mean, i do remember reading that botw was inspired by zelda 1 and idk how many people saw it but they made a mockup of the old map and the part where link oveelooked the mountain is even the same as some artwork back then. They also said they wanted the game to go back to its 'roots' which at the time i didnt understand that qoute at all, but now i do🤔 , and it was always about freedom to gonin whatever direction they wanted, not a linear path. Also im pretty sure themed dungeons were a part of it too, but im not sure how open THOSE were, they possibly where the only things with a linear path once you were in.

Honestly I liked and respect what BotW did but didn’t LOVE it the same way others seem to. There is a lot of things I can praise about it but I also feel there were certain other elements that could have been better for my enjoyment. I had a rough time in the beginning when I approached as a traditional action adventure open world. Sounds funny but I started to enjoy myself more once I played it as a survival game similar to Minecraft. I’m actually super excited to see all the creative ways we are able to approach problems which has me feeling this might be my botw moment.

Nintendo approached the game the same way we approached playing with toys when we were kids. Just slap a bunch of stuff together and do whatever you want. That's the main difference between TotK and other games.

Lol, you basically revealed the method of getting to the sky, that you weren't supposed to show, you just didn't show the device. Sneaky..

"It's still difficult to find fault with Link's first true open world outing" Well, I wouldn't say that... whether people agree or not is a different matter, but for me Tears has to win me over to justify its existence after BotW burned me. The mechanics look fun to play with but I'm really hoping for a better, fuller story this time. Glad you got to play it though, I know you are all looking forward to it

I agree. BotW neglected a lot of what made the previous Zelda games unique and Tears of the Kingdom needs to reimplement them into the core that BotW has established

My opinion on BotW has soured quite a bit since its release. It's by no means a bad game, but it's a skeleton of a game begging for substance, and I'm not yet convinced that TotK will provide it. The main issues I have are: 1. Weapons as rewards for fighting mobs combined with low durability reminds me of Sticker Star in the worst way. It's far more efficient to avoid combat whenever possible, especially since combat is basically "time the dodge then mash attack". 2. Divine Beasts and Shrines looking the same between each other and having very similar gameplay, losing the labyrinthine feeling from other Zeldas. 3. Overuse of Tests of Strength. 4. The fact that you can fight Ganon whenever means you don't need to explore the whole world, so when the novelty of exploration wears off you just head to the castle and win. 5. Memories have zero effect on the gameplay, your only motivation is given to you at the start of the game. 6. You need to buy the Hero's Path as part of the DLC. 7. The only ability you gain after the Great Plateau that recontextualizes the world is Revali's Gale, so exploration feels samey despite new biomes.

@@iamabucket13 Oh, it's by no means a bad game, but despite what some say I do consider it a bad *Zelda* game. It's still Zelda, aesthetically, but pretty much all the stuff that made Zelda Zelda is missing. I miss dungeons, but I could live without them. Weapon durability did make me feel like it wasn't worth using the best weapons, but fusion seems like it could address it. Memories sucked as a storytelling mechanic, especially after Aonuma hyped up a 'unique storytelling mechanism". I know I'm probably in the minority but for me the biggest sin, to use a loaded phrase, was the story, or lackthereof. Most Zelda games prior to BotW had interesting plots that at least added to the concept of the timeline as a whole and made Hyrule feel like it had history. cause and effect. BotW had basically no story, what was there was optional, came to about an hour of cutscenes and maybe another hour of mandatory dialogue across 120 hours of playing, and the Hyrule is so vastly different from previous ones and set so far in the future it feels entirely disconnected but for a few name references and visual references. After Skyward Sword's great focus on storytelling (perhaps slightly to its detriment) BotW represented too strong a swing in the opposite direction. I need Tears to be closer to Skyward Sword in terms of story focus than it was to Ocarina if I wanna get back on the day one Zelda hype train again. Otherwise this might be my last day-one Zelda, and when I decided not to get Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl day one I haven't even bought Scarlet and Violet yet, it knocked me off the bandwagon so hard. Like you said, BotW felt barebones. I genuinely consider it more of a tech demo for Tears, and we'll see how I feel about that after I play Tears - if this game has a much better story than BotW did then the former being a testing ground for Tears as a *real* Zelda open world game would feel almost confirmed to me.

@@iamabucket13 1. As seen in this preview, Good Vibes basically beat an entire camp without a single of his fused weapons breaking 2. First, BoTW does have labyrithns (heh heh) and second, we may be getting actual dungeons this time 3. That was annoying 4. If the only thing you want to do in an exploration game is _win_, that's a you problem 5. Is true. BoTW isn't a particularly story-driven game 6. Hero's path isn't all that much 7. Also quite true, though exploration in BoTW is less about movement and more about the awe of finding new places
