In the book theres a scene where Henry absolutely goes off on Phillip(after Phillip calls him a coward) and Alex just sits back like "thats my man". And I wish we got that in the movie 😂

I had watched Handsome Devil years ago and didn’t realize until I looked him up after watching this that it was the same guy! Then I watched Beat Beneath My Feet- loved it. Cannot wait now to see both Bottoms, where it looks like he’ll play a very different character, and The Idea of You (with Anne Hathaway!), another novel adaptation.

The expressiveness of Nicholas Galatzine's facial expressions is incredible. He can portray emotions so well that you can feel them yourself just by looking at him. The chemistry he is able to build with his co-stars always feels natural. Taylor and Nick are perfect for these roles. Their acting is incredibly good. The first film I noticed Nicholas in was at the Berlinale with "the beat beneath my feet". You could bet that he was going to make a career for himself. I am curious to see what else is to come. BTW for me he would be a perfect James Bond actor.
@Belaugh
@Belaugh 11 ай бұрын
I keep saying that too. He even has all the skills to play Bond, and he would make a brilliant young Bond for a new generation. I first saw him in Beat, ten years ago now, and followed his career ever since. The scope and depth of his acting is so real and so rare, and the range of his abilities is stunning. With Mary And George and The Idea Of You will bring him to A list attention. And no-one deserves the recognition and acclaim more.

Which is hilarious since Henry’s dad played Bond 😂 One of the many perfect parts about Nicholas as Henry is he looks exactly like you’d imagine James Bond kid to look, which means he has the bond vibes fr. Just the way the man wears a suit…

@@odile8701 Think we are all on the same page with this one! Sadly, I doubt anyone who makes these decisions will listen to us. On the other hand, I would be very happy to write the screenplay with Nicholas Galitzine in mind.....

I'm so obsessed with the movie, I've watched this movie like 20 times so far. The casting is so perfect too, tzp and Nick are literally perfect. No one else could play alex and henry. We so rarely get rep that doesn't end badly and I'm just so giddy because of this movie and book.

I just wanted to say the reason their phones were confiscated was because they didn't know how they were hacked and wanted to make sure nothing else got leaked, it was clarified better in the book. Hence the emergency phones Zarha and Shaan used to allow them to talk, they wouldn't have been hacked because no one knew about them.

"we need more sappy-ass cutesy romantic shit like this that makes you giggle and blush and just want to be in love, you know? that's not too much!"----I think this is why the movie is doing so well. I've heard some reviews saying the CGI is awful, etc. Those reviewers, have they never been to a play? Where a tree is painted onto a plywood cutout that someone wearing all black pushing onto the stage? Why does theater even exist if the audience doesnt have the mental capacity to throw themselves into the story and focus on the human experience instead of the material environment around the actors? And why would movies be any different? Another cricitism is how unrealistic it is (texas flipping to dems for example) Marvel does well, and they're even further in the fantasy realm than this movie. I think any negativity towards this film comes from folks who put less thought into what they're watching than....than a theater-goer for example. Anyway, I am ending my rant here. I appreciated your focusing on the positive. You should post again if you read the book!
@Belaugh
@Belaugh 11 ай бұрын
I love your take on the criticism. Exactly so, well said! Technically it is called "suspension of disbelief" It is made clear throughout that this is a fairy story a morality tale, a vision of hope. Nothing to do with cheese, cliche or CGI. None of those surface things are the point. The point is, this film calls for so much of the need for love and acceptance in the world, and the courage we all need to see and live truth. The story rocks compassion. A story for our times and on into a better future. In years to come this film will be seen as a classic and a milestone on the road to love, tolerance and acceptance.

There was a queer cast in the movie. Sarah D. Clarke an Grammy and Tony award winner who played the British PM is a lesbian married to a woman, Thomas Flynn who plays Prince Phillip identifies himself a queer. The director of the movie; Matthew Lopez identifies himself as gay. The author of the book; Casey McQuiston identifies as a queer non-binary person. So there was gay representation in the casting and behind the scenes of the movie.

The raft scene is related to one of the deleted scenes. The night before Henry, in story form, says that there was a prince with his heart outside his body; and to protect his heart the king gave him an armor. When he meets a devastatingly handsome young peasant boy, who says the most ghastly things to him, he feels alive for the first time in his life, and realize that for his protection the price he had to pay was his freedom. Little by little the young peasant took apart the armor until he was left with only the part that protected his heart. On the raft, when Alex tries to tell him how in love he is, it is as if that last piece had fallen (when he is in the water he puts his hands over his heart) and there is the fear of not being able to show himself in public and what it is to feel his heart free and unprotected. In the book this is one of the emails.

One change they made from the book was from having Bea being older than Henry and a recovering cocaine addict to a sweet quiet younger sister. I think having her having a wild past sort of undercuts how far the crown will go with scandalous children. If Bea was still accepted as per in the book, then Henry would not seem to have as much to fear in being open. PS - when I came out to my parents in 1974, on a weekend visit, I let them know I smoked pot (like only a few times) but got my mother to smoke it, as they had equated all drugs as "hard." The next evening, I told them I was gay, thinking the shock the night before might have dulled their reflex action. I also set it up so if they kicked me out, I was planning on leaving the next morning anyway. (PPS - at the time, info was so awful but even so, they were of the "as long as you are happy." And a couple of years later, they were marching in the NYC Pride parades, and my mother, who loved being a secretary, did so for the local gay group - where she played as surrogate mother to everyone there.)

Yup, my hyperfixation too. Watched the full movie dozens of time, plus all the clips, bloopers, and reaction videos - and now I'm doubling around on the latter (second time I've watched your reaction - thanks). Laugh at all the jokes and tear up at the same corny cheesy parts the same each time, but on rewatching, I also see get to appreciate all the subtle things like facial expressions that they have worked into this. I'm reminded of the first time people watch the old I Love Lucy episodes and laugh but also groan at what has often become tired cliches. But Lucy was the first to use these and these jokes only have grown too familiar because they are so good, they get recycled again and again. Ditto for the elements of romcoms but because they are used here on a storyline that turns them upside down, they appear fresh. (At least I think so.) Thanks again. Will be back again soon, I expect.

Supposedly the cake was real and tasted great. While the fictional cake was so costly, I'm hoping the prop they use was much cheaper. And the cast said this scene was so fun, but they were finding bits of icing all over their bodies for days. PS - If you notice, Alex rolls TOWARD Henry as the cake falls, instead of away, making sure it lands right on top. As the camera pans down on the mess, I think they were trying to foreshadow two male figures on TOP of a traditional wedding cake.
