Practicing an instrument on headphones can feel very dry and lifeless. All of the natural reverberations of the room are gone, and nothing feels like it should. But sometimes, headphones are really necessary. What if you practice bass late at night? Then, you need to try these Sony headphones - while Sony never intended them to be used for bass practice, their special feature that we talk about in this video makes them perfect for this. Moreover, their bass-heavy frequency response will surely make you bop your head to the music, and if you end up getting them, they might even become your daily street drivers. They also work great for other instruments, like the electric guitar, digital piano, or drums - because they don't sound like headphones - they sound like speakers in a room. Watch the video to find out how you can pair them with some cool little gadgets to put together a great, small, and portable instrument practice rig.

I was frankly hoping for a review about 3 or 5 headphones that you used with the bass guitar: that would've been a cool clip to check. I know some use Audio-Technica, others Sennheiser etc.. Sony? Never heard one single bassist about it.

I almost always practice with headphones unless I'm practicing with a band, and have been doing this for years. My wife is asleep on the other side of the room right now, and I don't think she's appreciate my 800 watt 1x15 4x10 bass stack now at 11:44 PM. I run through a Sans Amp Deluxe right now, into a GT-100 board set at neutral so I can have an AUX in and headphone out. I just backordered the Mark Vintage Pre, which has both an AUX in and a headphone out, and is so close to my :Little Mark Tube 800 so that if a play through the amp, I can run the pedal into my Effects In on the amp to keep the sound. I have an equalizer if the room or sounds of drums or keyboard get too close to my bass sound to prevent mush I also always run through a Mark Bass Compressore after hearing that Sheehan recommends a compressor for bass, and I never do without it. The Sans Amp sounds good if I keep everything straight up, but if I tap a knob, it changes the whole sound. I'm hoping I can find a setting for the pedal I just ordered to get "my sound", and keep the settings recorded so I can always get my sound back. I have active, 5-string basses, and use a little tweaking on their tone controls for changes now. I don't usually slap or use a pick when my wife is asleep because of the twang. I'm from the old school when there were no such things as Sans Amps, AUX ins or headphone outs, and for me it't the best thing since sliced bread. I was playing in a band a few years ago, and I had no problems making the bass roar. Right now the headphones I use for practice are the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pros. and they go all the way down to below my hearing level (I tested this with a web site). They have no problem at all with my low B string, and they sound great. The headphones are ported, so a little sound gets out and in, but not much. I don't bluetooth it either, I use all wires. I don't need noise cancelling either, If I need to shut sound in or out more, I'll use mt sealed Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pros. Both headphones are 250 ohm, and are easily pushed by my GT-100 out or DAC and headphone amp.The DAC in the GT-100 isn't as good, as it has a little jitter and pop, but nothing to write home about or to stop me practicing this way.

O.o I have a similar ones. The WH-H900N. Not as bassy as the X one. But still have decent audio. They'd work great for most instruments. And I hadn't thought of this. ANC is nice enough, not a 1000 lvl but close. And LDAC was an improvements over SBC. I already had to replace the earcups. cause the original ones, they didn't peal, they opened at the seams. New ones are thicker, and comfortable. But, been the cooling kinds, the part that touch my head is fabric. Silk, frankly I find the fake leathers from the original more comfortable. Apropo, Asta e o melodie frumoasa.

One day we'll use our advanced technology to invent the perfect ear pad that actually lasts. Some manufacturers got close enough, especially with the velour kind, but still, for the most part, ear pads are something that'll need replacing at some point. Mulțumesc frumos! 😁

Hi there. Thanks for your video. I am looking to a pair of headphones to practice bass guitar with my NuX mighty plug pro. I can’t find these Sony model in my country. Could you please recommend me some alternative. It isn’t easy to find headphones reviews made from bass players, most of them are for musical production. I no need something to fancy, just something to practice and listening fine. Thanks, and best regards from Argentina.

Hey Gustavo! The headphones I show in the video are special because of the built in DSP, which I think makes them great for the bass guitar, but if they aren't an option, then we can turn to normal studio headphones. Given that you mainly use your NuX Mighty Plug Pro, I would advise you to get some low impedance headphones that perform well in the low end and are portable enough to fit in your gig bag, next to the NuX. Without knowing your budget, I would say to look towards something like the AKG K371 or the Audio-Technica M50x. Hope this helps!

Hi how much is their latency? usually bluetooth headphones are not great for practicing...
@odysseyofcuriosity
@odysseyofcuriosity Жыл бұрын
There's no latency since I'm not using the Bluetooth function at all. I'm running them wired, it's just thier DSP circuit that's active, and latency is imperceptible 👌

@@odysseyofcuriosity I was referring to the last part of your video when you were mentioning the BT receivers. are there any wireless sets which allow for a sufficiently low latency to practice guitar/bass?
