Laser printers are better for occasional printing: the toner is basically iron filings coated with wax. The problem is that occasional prints don't really justify the cost of a laser printer.

Years ago there was a 'Sprayprinter" kickstarter that I almost backed. It used position tracking like VR inside out headsets do and attached to a basic spraypaint can to turn it into almost a handheld dot-matrix printer you can use on your wall. Every time you moved it over where the image needed paint it would depress the trigger putting a dot of paint in that location. Pretty sure the kickstarter and the project died, but it was a neat idea. Much more user friendly than this r4-d4 looking thing.

How could you afford the German made WallPen--aren't they significantly costly? Website states under $60,000, which would seem to indicate a substantial capital investment.

@googleuser68144 ай бұрын
After doing some fairly exhaustive research over the past couple of days, I'm not seeing $60k of value here. I really, really want to, but I don't. Even their main competitor is $25k less and ink is half the cost. And their resolution is waaaay better. This is a $10-12k (ish) setup. Print head is $500. Aluminum 8020 stuff, wheels, servos/robot thingies, tablet, etc are all maybe $4-5k? I just don't see $60k. I'm sure it can be profitable and I wish everyone immense success, but this is simply highway robbery. You can buy 3 brand new Nissan Versas for that amount of money. Insane. $50k markup for some programming, tech support, and a short warranty? I mean, that's just bonkers.

It does! It’s actually rated for 7+ years outside in the elements and is commonly used to print outdoors.

Is there any compatible ink or paint that could be used (and clearcoated?) for flat sided vehicles, such as step vans or box trucks? This could be a really big deal in that market.
@LRN2DIY4 ай бұрын
The ink this uses has a seven year rating so it’s actually used pretty commonly outdoors. Clear coating it will definitely add to its lifespan so it’s ready to print on vehicles already!

You state that it solved the issues of textured walls and resolution, but clearly you have no idea what you are talking about or you are trying to deceive your viewers. 1. Most modern commercial and industrial large format printers have an output resolution up to 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi. The issue is the resolution of the image you wish to print. If it is 300 dpi x 300 dpi at 12” x 12” and you scale it up to 36” x 36”, your resolution will only be 100 dpi x 100 dpi no matter what printer you use. 2. The ink that is jetted by that printer will not flatten out wall texture, so that is still an issue. 3. You will have to prime and repaint the wall to get rid of the mural that you direct-print, so it doesn’t eliminate that issue either. Thanks for the misleading video.
