Use a hdmi to DVI cable? I do and it works well on a Dell 3:4
@HoldandModify2 жыл бұрын
I would need a new monitor that has DVI. :/ but I might just have to.

Those long "LinuxJedi" design RGBtoHDMI boards are the way to go. I ended up with 3 of the original small version from reputble vendors (trying to support people) and all of them have awful pixel shimmer that no amount of modding with different capacitors could fix.

Yeah this thing has been great!

Love that there's still kit being made for the Amiga's. Have you tried the method of leaving monitor off, cable disconnected, before powering on the Amiga, then monitor , then connect the VGA? or maybe was connect VGA before power on monitor. I have had a number of those Dell's over the years, until the era of widescreens.
@HoldandModify2 жыл бұрын
Tried everything. These particular Dell’s just don’t play nice. :(

@@HoldandModify :/ that's a shame. Is it possible there's some weird Dell proprietary shenanigans at play? I know I had all manner of weird stuff with their psu/mobo pinouts at that time being really annoying.

@@benwu7980 maybe. It’s super frustrating.

You can use a Pi3 also, that's what I use
@Channel-Zx2 жыл бұрын
Sitting on Pi's ouch try storing them on a shelf.. in other news I watched the video, have the same RGB2HDMI in my A500plus as well, very impressed with it and the TF536 make it a very nice Amiga to have. 2mb chip, 64mb fast, nice clear RGB digital HDMI output to my new Dell monitor and IDE storage. Also have the A1000 RGB2HDMI I need to finish building then I have nice clear RGB and RTG from the PiStorm.

Best of both worlds isn’t it? Get the old up, then get the new running on it. It’s all kinds of amazing. Thanks for stopping by!

HDMI is very good for Workbench, but games will probably look less good.
@HoldandModify2 жыл бұрын
Actually this latest update addresses some issues with games. So hopefully better. However, games will always look their best on a CRT, yes!

How did you set this up? I have one of these but could never get it working, I've tried everything.
@HoldandModify2 жыл бұрын
I bought the version that includes a preconfigured mSD. It wasn’t all that much more. So it made it more plug and play. Check the description for the vendor.

old flat screen lcd's like that though have horrible image quality compared to a CRT though.
@HoldandModify2 жыл бұрын
They do? It looks pretty great from what I can see. Dell made some nice panels. CRT will always be the best way of course. The game art was designed expecting CRT.
@Revener6662 жыл бұрын
@@HoldandModify well to start with LCD only look decent at the esolution they are built for and older ones have crap refresh rate, lighting, colours, colour depth, contrast e.t.c. There is a reason I used a CRT for my gaming PC until two years ago. :) And I still find some issues even with good or better new monitors that annoyes me.

yet again chip replace with another raspberry. why not just grab RGB signals and turn it hdmi. how hard it is
@HoldandModify Жыл бұрын
That’s what this does. It grabs the video from Denise. It doesn’t replace it. The Denise is still doing everything she normally does. The only external way to get HDMI video this clean is to use something like an OSC. Which is fine but I prefer the quality of the Pi versions conversion. And that it’s all tidy and hidden inside.

Unless the TV/monitor has a native resolution of exact multiples of 768x576 it's never going to look as good as on an 80s Sony/Panasonic CRT via SCART RGB ;) (Commodore monitors had horrible quality CRT tubes, a real waste of money)
@HoldandModify2 жыл бұрын
True but even in my terrible clown colors cycling video you can see how sharp and clear it does look on those Dell LCD VGAs. If it didn’t color cycle? I’d be singing songs of Amiga.
@madcommodore2 жыл бұрын
@@HoldandModify It is a big problem today, new TVs only have composhit video or HDMI and composite video is digitised in worse quality than a 1980s Amiga video digitiser lol. If you find a 2021 TV you might get a VGA socket too, so potentially you could use the Commodore VGA dongle if the TV supports 576i signals. I have an old Panasonic Plasma that supports RGB SCART input from my Amiga and that looks nice if a little soft focus due to the resolution problem. Perfectly fine for playing Lotus II on a 60" TV :)

@@HoldandModify Thank you, my channel is full of swearing littered [terrible] 8bit game reviews that hide the odd bit of technical info thrown in there! lol well it was but I have gone off doing those sort of videos now. I set up my Amiga 1000 a few days ago in the newly renovated room so I am enjoying the Amiga again, all Amigas are great and the Amiga 1000 was probably the highest quality machine Commodore ever produced. Now if I just had a working copy of Shadow of the Beast 1.......
