The bug videos are easily my favorite, from the sounds of it the valves need be adjusted and the fan sounds like it is hitting the shroud a bit. Also, an alternator kit is the first upgrade I would do besides lift spindles and disk break conversion. I have four baja bugs but I havent got a class 11 yet. Watching yours makes me really wanna pull the trigger on one.
@WingsWorldChannel5 жыл бұрын
I'll have to take a look at the valves, checked them probably 1000 miles ago. What is the advantages of going to an alternator over a generator? Im curious if I was going to that if it would be worth it to just go all 12v
@MrSkaterdrew5 жыл бұрын
@@WingsWorldChannel Oh yeah, I completely forgot you are running an earlier bug so its a 6v system. In that case, it really comes down to what you plan to do with the bug. It wouldn't be hard to tax the existing system with lights, sound system, etc. The stock system will handle a simple stereo and some lights decently, but an alternator upgrade and 12v conversion is ideal if you plan to do much more. The biggest benefit for an alternator is the higher amperage produced, and it actually takes a bit less energy to kick over, the wiring becomes much simpler too if you use one with an internal voltage regulator. Also, I believe when you go to a 12v system that they use a different flywheel and starter.
@OFFAxisBuilds4 жыл бұрын
i was thinking the same thing. the valves need to be adjusted. i could never stand that chirp on my Vw's. i always readjusted the valves so that it wouldn't chirp.
@reginaldlarry29622 жыл бұрын
Can you use disc brake conversion on 2 1/2 spindles or just 2.5

Sounds good! Any perfromance advantages? Although its a smaller muffler, it sounds like it revs faster. You've openned up a can of worms, now you have to get the performance to match teh sound, lol! Like the other guys said, add an allternator, 009 or (019 Porsche) distributor.
@AverageBud5 жыл бұрын
Looks like its coming along great. I noticed you seem to be missing the rubber seal that goes around the engine tin. Being that its gonna be getting warmer soon you mite want to look into it. It keeps the heat from the exhaust and muffler from rising up and cooking the engine. I just put a new one in on my bug. Also Alternator upgrade is a fantastic idea. I agree with others on the valve adjustment. Super easy to do and plenty of DIY tutorials on KZbin and samba for that.

You remind me of myself installing a glass pack (not quiet pac) header, on my '64 bug back in 1976. Bought it from JC Whitney catalog. Those were the days!! A little HP boost, but the sound...!!! Make sure all holes are plugged in all tins as the fan will suck the exhaust heat into cooling air. Purchase a repair manual and an original owners manual from the Samba VW website. Some advice. Keep that carb and dizzy. Leave it 6v. That car is going up in value! I have a 64 again. All stock. Cheers!
