I think the 4k system power drops are due to the Gpu tripping the ocp on your power supply. Although it has enough power for the average power draw, spikes and nasty transients can drastically change the current draw resulting in PSU ocp protection kicking in.

@dawid you need to consider that wattage output is not the same as the wattage draw from the wall. It will draw more watts from the wall than give your devices. If the manufacturer is saying 500w and they mean power draw from the wall then you're screwed. Also power supplies don't run very efficiently at 100%.

The RTX 3080 Ti is NOT stupid! I have one myself, and I'm very glad to have almost the performance of a 3090 in a case that can't accommodate a card that large! The $1200 price, although high, is not higher than the 2080 Ti, after all...

You know if you think about it, it actually makes some sense. Since the graphics card was hovering around 40% usage, it’s probably not getting up to its power limits. So that low watt power supply was probably fine. Once you changed to 4K, it probably demanded more power and crashed.

Are we getting a prebuilt collection showcase soon? Maybe with awards ranging from "Most not sucky" to "Dumpster fire".

36A on the 12V rail is not 500watts. Maybe next time you can show the frametimes graph on MSI's afterburner. Awesome video by the way.

der8auer also recently had a video where his 3080 Ti didn't work when using a specific monitor. The monitor runs fine with other cards and the card runs fine with other monitors. At first I thought that was a similar issue here.

I've watched a few YT gamers who have complained about framerates and stutters, etc., and just yell out "I've got a 3080 in this, why is the framerate so low?" There are so many factors that go into it, it's kind of ridiculous. It's like putting a massive 10 cylinder engine into a 1998 Honda sedan and complaining it doesn't corner well. It's a gaming *_system_* and must be looked at that way.

That recommended 750W has to take into account all the trashy power supplies out there. A decent 500W PSU should work. CWT(the company that made this psu) is a OEM that makes PSUs to order. In general they make pretty decent stuff, though they can also make trash. As for the specific PSU in that system: that seems to be an older model. Low efficiency and not all power is available on the 12v rail(so no dc-dc). That means it's a budget model that might have issues with some transient loads. Before watching the video, I'd guess it will work properly. It might however crash in niche situations. Now let's see what actually happens.

Guess I was about right. Though the crashes could be due to something else as well I guess.
