Actually, milk of magnesia cured my teenage forehead acne. My mom read about it in a magazine and suggested it to me since I tried everything else and nothing worked. I would only put it on at night before bed and wash it off in the morning. Might not be great for all day use under makeup but it did wonders for my pimples!!!

Nothing brings back hydration into your skin except water. Be careful applying serums and moisturizers that typically just contain occlusive products meant to trap hydration in your skin, onto your skin when it isn't wet or hydrated. Wearing a silicone-free and oil-free moisturizer with ceramides and peptides at night and sleeping with a humidifier on has allowed my skin to be much more hydrated as my skin can breathe and drink in the moisture in the air. In the morning, I apply my moisturizer and lotions right after I get out of the shower on wet skin to prevent transepidermal water loss. It has helped me tremendously. Sorry if I sound preachy, just thought it might help someone else out there as it's taken me a long time to figure this out.
@cameronr597 жыл бұрын
Liz bth I honestly stay away from oil and silicones (mainly -methicones) in anything everything I put on my skin, except for makeup because it's honestly next to impossible to find good products without it. Simple Nourishing Rich Moisturizer, Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion with Hyaluronic Acid ( it has cyclopentiloxane, which isn't an occulusive silicone like dimethicone, as it evaporates during application) and Elta MD PM Therapy have all been good to me. I also use Mineral 89 Booster Gel by Vichy when I'm wanting extra moisture and I like Simple micellar waters for taking off makeup as they don't contain silicones like a lot of drug store micellar waters. I'm acne-prone and prone to dehydration because I've been on Differin and Tretinoin for at least 8 years so I hope that helps. Also! SPF everyday! You'd be amazed at how much better and glowing your skin looks after a few days of not being exposed to the UVA/UVB. I only use physical sunscreens, and of course, silicone-free. 😊

MOM contains magnesium hydroxide (absorbs lipids from your skin) and sodium hypochlorite which is a bleaching agent that is much too harsh. Also the PH is around 10.5 which is also too high & can damage skin over time. Some however claim it's more effective as a deodorant due to it's moisture absorbing properties. "In other words, if a high ph can increase the risk of a bacteria infection, the loss of sweat can reduce it. So, in this case, and this case only, the benefits of MOM are greater than its side effects." I hope this helps !

@lepramannen12377 жыл бұрын
Captain here: Eating high fat food seldom translate to oily skin, that is not possible. Oily skin often is a result of hormone imbalances, many women can experience this when on the pill. Talk to your Dr if the problems are unbearable, sometimes it gets better from using the pill, sometimes it gets worse, all this is very much depending on your chemical composition of the skin. Milk of magnesia is related to lye, a very high pH (pH 8-12) substance used for deep cleaning, and I would guess that it has melted into your skin, probably destroyed the sebum producing areas. It will take a few years for those areas to regenerate, if ever. The increase in white heads is a reaction to the damage of the sebum producing areas, where other parts of the skin tries to compensate for the loss of naturally oil producing areas. Skin care needs to be around pH 5,5-6 (slightly acidic) to match the natural skin pH. Deviating from this for a long period of time may damage your skin permanently, like you just experienced. *flies away*

Oh my goodness, I'm so glad I came across your video today. I began using Milk of Magnesia all over my face since Sunday night leaving it on as an overnight mask. I followed the instructions of another YT influencer esthetician sharing how she applies it all over her face every night to tighten her skin, and she's in her late 50's with beautiful skin without sagging jowls. I'm 55 years old, so I thought it would help tighten my complexion in a healthy way while I sleep. Today, when I looked at my face in the car mirror, I was very concerned. My face looked dehydrated, older and fine lines were much more pronounced. I didn't know it would suck out all the much needed moisture from my skin. When I was a teenager many years ago, I used tmilk of magnesia to control acne and whiteheads. But I had youthful combination skin and lived in humid Florida as a teen in those days. Now, I have dry skin, in menopause & living in Maryland. You just helped my skin significantly!! Thank you so much for sharing!

I'm addicted too..I've been using MOM since the queens taught me a little over 20 years ago. I used to do make up for drag shows and they actually taught me this trick. I yet to have a problem at all after using it all these years. I wear makeup everyday for work, but not on the weekends. So I've been doing this almost everyday for over 20 years. If I had to stop using it, I don't know what i'd do. In my opinion, theres nothing on the market that works as well. My skin is so oily it probably off sets my skin getting dry from using MOM. GIRLLLLL, this is the first video of yours I've EVER watched, and you blow my mind in the first 5 seconds by sounding like Beyoncé. YOU. GO. MISS. THANG. I truly hope you use that talent and often. And when you sing to people, and you're finished, just say to them 'you're welcome', and walk away. You're STUNNING in every possible way. Happy New Year 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 By the way, there is a FANTASTIC KZbin dermatologist called Dr Dray, who talks mainly about skin care items, and what we are buying into with the marketing, the brands, the ingredients etc. Sadly, I found out I'm doing pretty much everything wrong, BUT, I will be starting to save myself an ASSLOAD of money doing things the right way. But she mentions this method, and it's been used by makeup artists many times on runway models to achieve that matte effect. So girl you're not wrong 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Everyone should sub this Doctor's channel, she only has 25K viewers, and she gives out for free such PRICELESS info. Also, she answered my questions within HALF HOUR. She's amazing and deserves so many more viewers, as do you. But you got a lot girl. Keep up the great work 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Where you started wondering why your skin was dry, I started wondering why my life was going to shit, and I didn't want to believe it was the OxyContin addiction. Haha. Sorry, I over share. But, as of February 2010, haven't touched it. So that's a good thing 💪🏼💪🏼

Before you go to bed but after you put on moisturizer, serums, etc, try putting on a layer of vaseline. It’s too thick to absorb or clog pores, all it does is keep your face’s natural oils and moisture in and increases the effectiveness of the serums etc you use

From a Biological point of view. If you have Oily skin you might want to look at how you are washing your skin. Harshly removing these oils that are supposed to be on your skin to a point, will cause your skin to create more oil than needed to compensate the loss. Also being mindful of the temperature of the water you are putting on your face when you bathe and rinse off products will cause this reaction to. Try to use cool water. This will help people with dry skin to as not to make it dryer.

Someone may have already explained why "Milk of Magnesia" worked? If not, it was the magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2 that most likely was so efficient in drying out the sebum/oil in the skin. Also I have noticed some people saying you were crazy because it probably dried your skin too much. The other main ingredient in the product (water) would have balanced that out. You used a product that is reasonably inexpensive to get exactly the same results we get from crazy over-priced creams that sometimes sell for a small fortune when bought from some well-known "beauty houses". Genius!!! Something to make you laugh: One of the reasons the U.K. decided to leave the European Union (not saying it was a good idea all around) but the E.U. meddled & banned sales of Milk of Magnesia because it contained just a little too much Magnesium. This product has been sold for over 100 yrs, no ill-effects, even in babies. A Great-Grandma decided to say that she even used it on her babies who didn't want to feed due to too much gas in their intestines & recommended it to friends with all kinds of similar probs. Sometimes Grandma knows better than a whole bunch of bureaucrats sitting with more time on their hands than is good for them :).

Murad! Is bomb for oily skin.. So try that if and when your skin goes back to oily. (it's the Murad oily skin products)

You should add Lotion P50 to your skincare routine. It's an acid toner that balances the pH of the skin. It's not cheap, but I've heard it works wonders.

OMG! I've been using MOM for about 3 years and I just thought it was so weird that I didn't even tell anyone...lol. I think I found out about it from looking at the ingredients in the 'shine control' product that I was using at the time and I saw that the main ingredient was the same ingredient in MOM. It works so well for me in keeping my oil controlled and extending my makeup wear. I don't use it daily though so I haven't seen any real down sides like the dryness. I also use olive oil at night too though so that might help. Your makeup is gorgeous BTW..beautiful!

I've always been scared to use MOM and Becca Ever Matte is too pricey for me. I'll stick to Rimmel Stay Matte primer or NYX Angel Veil and mini bake with a mattifying primer before my foundations.

EC DC my skin is a combination of very oily “like I been frying myself in oil” on my t zone and super dry on the rest, I have tried loads of primers and only milk of magnesia been working with me even tho I have been having the exact same side effects as she, gonna give it a no at nyx and baking, thanks soo much for your coment xx

Youkeyy thanks soo much for this video, I knew it was damaging my skin somehow but this video just made me sure as no one seems to really talk about it, just hard to find a primer with the same mattefiying results.. also I love the colours of you lipstick it’s that a combination?? Tutorial for this look PLEASEEEEEEE♥️

Ive recently tried the Rimmel stay matt primer but unfortunately after about 30mins it was super oily again. I loved the Kiko matt primer but theyve changed the formula which was a huge bummer! Ill stick to the m.o.m as it really does the job. Ill check out your other suggestion too.

Yall might want to try the soap and glory primer called one heck of a blot. I'm super oily and I stayed matte for a longer amount of hours so it might work.

I eat high fat, low carb and still have dry skin. Unsure of where you are getting there is a correlation with high fat = more oil production.
@pikachuiswatchingyou7 жыл бұрын
Btw if you want to build your skin back to normal (from milk of magnesia or any irritant) use a salicylic acid cleanser once a day or few times a week (zapzyt is fragrance-free) to avoid breaking out. Then use a ceramide cream to build it back to normal. Niacinamide is a good bonus (Cerave pm has both).

Girl that clip with them saying balance had me 😂😂however your skin doesn't look that bad but you need a good cleanser and a facial brush to get deep into your pores but also it will help you exfoliate and use witch hazel as an astringent then come back with a good moisturizer. Also your make up is slayed!
@Godwill37 жыл бұрын
dilute it with water, only put it where you get oily and dont wear it everyday and you will be ok. everyone is different
@VanaIbis7 жыл бұрын
Makeup Love this is exactly what I do. I use a regular primer all over my face first, and then the SLIGHTEST amount of diluted MOM only in the areas that I get oily. So slight that the area doesn’t even get white when it dries. It’s been three years and my face hasn’t changed. If you’re like me and nothing else works for you, dilute, and use the smallest amount. You do not need to slather your entire face! You don’t need to look like a ghost! And please take care of your skin underneath your makeup.

WOW hun that was so dangerous! I have a kidney disease where my kidneys don’t hold potassium so I’m extremely depleted and I’ve been in ICU before because of it and I take 1000 mg of magnesium to help maintain all the potassium I have to take every day. Cause if u lose to much potassium ur heart will just stop and I have other heart trouble on top of that shit no less. But if u intake magnesium that’s not needed it will raise ur potassium and can cause a heart attack or stop it heart and when ur heart stops due to to much potassium CPR isn’t gonna do shit u need to be shocked! Within I believe 4 minuets for an adult. But ur skin is a sponge to the bloodstream. If u take something orally it has to go through ur digestive system but when u put something that dissolves on ur tongue or on ur skin it goes directly into the blood stream! If u I take enough over time u will fuck w important things like ur RBC’s ur platelets ur white blood cells and a lot of other levels in the body like magnesium and potassium n u can become very ill. It’s a good thing that dry skin is all that happened. Ppl think shit is safe because it’s over the counter. I worked the hospital for many years and I’ve seen ppl die from improperly taking Tylenol and IBU. They cause there own renal failure. I’ve seen someone accidentally OD on Benadryl. If u read the back of the milk of magnesium it tells u all the dangers it will cause !! Ur very lucky hun don’t ever do something like that again. More ppl die from accidentally Over dosing from misusing over the counter medicine then accidentally OD over prescription medicine and that’s because most ppl when the dr orders it they take it seriously n they follow the instructions but 80% of ppl don’t even read the warnings on the box or bottle of over the counter medicine cause there not afraid or leery about cause well it’s over the counter n they don’t show the same respect that they would if a dr prescribed it! Plz don’t ever do that again!! Ever w any over the counter medicine!!

I've been using MOM over 3 years and I haven't had any problems. And I only wear makeup about once to two times a week. At least not yet. I bought the Becca primer and was very upset that it didn't live up to the hype for me ☹️ It was a waste of money and I had oil within the first two hours. Waste. At least for me.
