I put new soles on these Birkenstock clogs at home in my garage workshop!

I really appreciate the way you sand the soles BEFORE you install them as opposed to after! I always feel uneasy seeing other people sand the edge of the sole with the uppers so close to the sanding belt.

I actually only did that with these because they're clogs. If you watch my other videos, I typically sand the soles to meet the uppers... It was hair-raising the first few times, but I've gotten a good feel for it now and I can knock a pair out in only about 10 minutes. Thanks for watching!

Woah, woah, woah. Tell us about that trick with the white sheet of paper/plastic you used to help line up the glued soles and uppers. How does it not immediately bond with the contact cement?

It was a Summit Racing sticker I had lying on the bench. If the contact cement is dry, then smooth things like sticker paper won't stick to it. I learned the trick of putting a barrier in while lining things up from one of the Al Stohlman books about making leather cases. He suggests using wax paper, and that's really the best choice, but I was in a hurry and the sticker was right there. I've used magazine pages before, too, and they work fine.

Maybe you should have used Barge brand cement? Not all contact cements are made alike.

That's a latex cork sealer. It replaces the factory seal on the cork where it's worn out or I ground it off while evening out the new sole
