Isnt it much easier to cut weight if you have muscular body type with low fat percentage ,this guy in the video is fat so the reaction just makes sense .muscle contain more water so its easier to be drained for weigh-in

This is why many wrestling leagues changed to day of weigh ins. I use to get a weigh in 12 hours before I would wrestle. Matches start 8am Saturday and I would hit the scale 8pm Friday night. Worst part was I was such a lightweight I didn’t have anyone in my division most times I would wrestle up about 10lbs worst was 30lbs

@@tjboylan20 in this case if someone doesn't make weight there is no time to change fighters. So the fight ends up happening anyways. One fc tried to end weight cutting, but as you can see issues like these make it so that any attempt to stop it so far is completely rendered null and moot

Yeah it sucks. Sorta had to figure it out myself for my first fight. I dropped 21 pounds and had never intentionally dropped a pound in my life. I walked around about 155 and fought at 135. Dieted a little and I was obviously in the gym. Then the sauna did the rest(with sauna suit). That was the most shocking part to me. I was sitting down for most of my time in the sauna and a pool of sweat had formed in my lap without noticing. So when I went to get up this large amount of sweat hit the floor like I dropped a jug of water.

I cut weight in April for a bjj tournament that nobody (including myself) gave a damn about. I tried doing it this way for the first time in my life. Early in my combat sports career I didn’t really have to cut weight because I was younger and walked around lighter. I’d walk around at 150 and then slowly drop to 135 for a fight in the span of two months rather than killing myself dehydrating. Long story short the weekend before the tournament my buddy from Philly came to visit. Monday morning a woke up at 172 and had to weigh 155 for the tournament. I did the weight cut the exact same as this and I made the weight. Tanked my immune system and performed like crap but ended up taking second on criteria against one of Diego Bispo’s guys

you all touched on the irony of cutting all that weight... literally just about EVERY single fighter does this... so any "benefit" is lost really because everyone is doing it... This is a relic left from over due to MMA's strong wrestling roots and should be eliminated. Not only because it SUCKS but also because it isn't super healthy and we've seen SO many fights messed up from the cuts. I also agree with Mr. T's sentiment that the fights would be GREATLY improved without all this craziness. anyways SHOUT OUT WB!!! You my fav fighter! Man I love watching these fighters compete. I wish they didn’t have to go through weight cuts. I’ve been with friends while they cut weight to compete. It’s absolutely miserable. Thanks for all your hard work 🙏
