It's not just small universities which doesn't allow u to choose the topic which you like, well established government universities does the same thing ,i know as same happened with me my topic was "not so appropriate" for thesis so it got rejected, hence i ended up with the topic suggested by them (i was not in a situation where i can wait one more year to get admission somewhere else)

A teacher should not violate his decorum by using such kind of fallacy to catch students' attention. Ok, certainly you had domestic responsibilities so you continued AP'ship in DU. But why did you resign from there? Tell them that it was not a permanent post. When the duration expired, (logically) you must have applied for permanent post in different colleges and universities. But upon not getting a permanent career, you switched to coaching industry.

You are absolutely correct.... Recently, My PhD RDC was conducted and Professors tried to change the topic because they are habitual to change topics of all the scholars.. Topic was related to Meta- narratives so they were rejecting the theory and giving advice to select novels as all do... After 2 hours 35 minutes argument I'm to save my topic otherwise India me aisa hi hota h Vineet sir tells the truth of the Universities...... Professors change scholars' topic as their convenience....
