@Alexander Supertramp no they dont. Drug withdrawl almost always lasts a week. Thats right. Heroin, cocaine, meth, you feel bad for a few days when you quit it but you get back to normal fast. After that drug addicts dont physically need it they just crave it. Cocaine withdrawl probably wouldnt be worse then caffeine withdrawl for example. Fatigue, depression, back to normal in a week
@boboallin
@boboallin 5 жыл бұрын
Matt Dupuis withdrawals from cocaine and meth aren’t physical withdrawal symptoms in the same way heroin and benzo withdrawals are, it’s pretty much entirely mental. Meth for example is extremely neurotoxic when used the way most addicts use it (in multiple day long binges) so when you come off of it your endorphins will all be extremely low and you’ll feel absolutely fucking terrible for a while, same with coke, but that isn’t a physical withdrawal. You will physically probably feel terrible because you likely aren’t eating and sleeping well but it isn’t your bodies reaction to not having any more of the drug, it’s just how you feel once your poor health isn’t masked by a big dopamine hit. Heroin is different and it really depends on the severity of it but it can definitely last more than a week and usually lasts for months because quitting it without slowly weaning off is a terrible idea for most people, and even weaning will most of the time induce withdrawal symptoms, just far less intense than if you were to just flat out quit. Benzos like Xanax can take months for the physical withdrawal to subside even if you quit cold turkey, which can quite literally kill you. I’m really not sure what you mean by that last bit but yeah no quitting a heavy cocaine habit will absolutely be more difficult than giving up caffeine almost 100% of the time. Of course there will be outliers but cocaine is a FAR more addictive substance than caffeine. The reliance on caffeine is usually habitual and is caused by changes in your adenosine receptors whereas cocaine is literally training your brain to seek cocaine above everything else like food sex etc, because the dopamine reward is so much greater than any natural means of getting a dopamine hit. This is even more extreme with meth because I’m pretty sure it releases more dopamine than any other substance or action on earth

@@boboallin i am prescribed an amphetamine for adhd, which is not really much different from methamphetamine, same drug just different potency. I find caffeine withdrawl is harder to get through then amphetamine withdrawl. With caffeine there is more physical lethargy for me and aches and pains. Amphetamines are more mentally addictive without a doubt though
@DrShpilev
@DrShpilev 5 жыл бұрын
@John Hurley yes, a headache is a physical dependency sign. What's the confusion here? Caffeine is an addictive drug, like any other. The difference is that it's legal. The addiction is also not as severe as with any other drugs, but its also not as bad as some others (LSD, Mushrooms and DMT for instance have very low addictive potential).

Tim Batchelor every organism reacts differently, but smoking 🚬 less won’t make you stop smoking. I took a year to interiorize in my mind that I had to stop smoking, before I started my non smoking journey, then after a year I just quit, smoke the last cigarette and quit. I swore on my baby ( at the time) life, that i would not smoke again. Won’t lie to you, it was really hard. And it has been 7 years. You have to believe that you can, and you have to really want to quit smoking otherwise you won’t. Hope you can

I hate coffee, so everytime i go out with my friends to eat breakfast or simply to spend time with them everyone drink it but i never did, it never bothered me, i really like tea instead, i drink it often. People need to be less influenced by the social life and what everyone does, simply drink something else if you don't want coffee. Nice video matt, always the best.

There might be something wrong here. I decided to quit coffee after a lifetime consumption. I realized I had plenty of headaches actually linked to stopping coffee (I tried several times), and figured out that if something was impacting my brain so much, there might be some negative effects. After 15 days I realized that it was much, much easier for me to get out of bed in the morning without coffee. My sleep was clearly deeper without coffee, with a better recovery. I felt more energized in the mornings but also during my days, with a much more stable energy level. After 2 months I felt globally more rested, with a higher level of mental clarity, with a clear positive impact on my work during my daily clients meetings. I tried this several times with different consumption levels (going from 4 cups a day to 0, 2 to 0, 1 to 0, experimenting over several months) : I was personally feeling the negative effects and impact on my sleep starting from 1 cup a day, this was a big surprise to me. I decided to quit. From time to time I still take one when I really need an energy boost, but I actually realized that it creates a vicious circle (the energy low after the first coffee makes you want another one), and I felt some effect on my health (my throat becomes "dry" and I actually got sick 2 times after starting again, after some times with no consumption at all). I am now trying to quit completely. People might have different tolerance levels, but I would advise anyone to experiment in this way and see what works for you. If Matt did not feel any positive benefits, you can find plenty of other KZbinrs who actually felt a big positive impact when they stopped.

I had to reduce myself to a half cup in the morning, simply to avoid becoming overly agitated. I seem to be really sensitive to caffeine. Can't comment on the productivity because i've done this in a holiday period. I can't believe only half a cup of coffee in the morning was still affecting my sleep so many hours later. Some interesting observations from someone who has rarely ever had any caffeine and dislikes coffee: As someone who barely ever has had caffeine (and yes, it was insane when I did have some but has been extremely infrequent in my life), I've always noticed the short attention span of regular users. It's literally not worth working on a project with someone addicted to caffeine who doesn't have a cup in hand (or at least had their daily dose a bit prior). I truly mean those words. Obviously it's a spectrum and everyone falls on it in different places but the daily Starbucks-drive-in people I know are super inadequate when deprived of their zoom juice when compared to them on coffee. I get that it's kind of fun a cute to love and need something to function, but honestly that's the number one reason I still stay away. I don't want to have to buy liquid attention after getting too dependent. And I don't want to take any performance enhancer that over time lowers my original base-performance; which then in turn makes me more dependent... I would pay a lot of money to know what a pot a day coffee lover would look like if they'd never had caffeine before in their life. What they'd say after their fist cup ever. Here's the questionably unethical experiment. Take identical twins and introduce one to coffee at a safe age and restrict the other from all caffeine. Then at different ages as time goes by, test them cognitively. Have the coffee drinker take tests with and without any caffeine. Maybe every few testing cycles have the abstinent one take some caffeine before a test to see how much their score is enhanced. Also take note of sleep quality, grades, self-rated happiness, and aging. Then I think we might finally get a scientific answer as to whether coffee is good or bad for you. Think about it, if the abstinent subject EVER scored better without caffeine than the other twin with caffeine then what does that mean? And for how many years are the benefits of the increased mental ability from caffeine actually beneficial? and at what cost to your base mental ability? I've never liked the taste of coffee and everyone I talk to who does says, "at first you don't like it but eventually you grow to love the flavor" which I'm pretty sure has to do with cravings caused by addiction. Put caffeine in anything and people will grow to love it. Same with all drugs. Take smoking for example; smells bad, taste bad, burns a bit, first time users don't enjoy it but do like the rush; yet those addicted LOVE the experience and have extreme difficulty quitting. They miss the ritual and social aspects. Sound familiar? Obviously far more dangerous and likely more addictive but the same principle. So I believe you when you say, "I just love the flavor," or, "I only drink it for the flavor," because you do love the flavor, but realize that many people don't like the flavor at first which is just a tad suspicious to me on why you would think bean tea taste so delicious and becomes something you can't imagine life without. (Just a joke tea Connoisseurs, please don't hurt me) Also, in case your curious, I'd self rate my own attention span extremely high, though if we're being honest KZbin does take it's toll on me. Still, when I've got a big machine learning project I'm able to code for like 5 straight hours of non-stop, high quality, uninterrupted and productive work, with no food or sugar required. Feels focused and not like I'm punishing myself or miserable from the work. Easily my best super power. Also recharging my brain, while not as fast as a cup of jo, is usually as easy as a 30 minute walk and then I'm primed for another couple hours. Wouldn't trade that - for a drink I don't love (but would eventually grow to love if consumed a few times) with the promise of a dependency and cravings so bad they'll cause headaches if missed - any day. I fully understand that your love is deep and your love is real (talking to coffee drinkers) and you wouldn't want to know anything different, but as someone who's never had that love, it does seem a little unappetizing... And a little one sided. I mean, for your first few cups you might not even really like it. Just my two cents as someone who over-worries a dependency lowers the quality and abilities of my base-state self. P.S. wouldn't be offended if people who find this interesting like it so others will see, I feel like I'm quite the minority in this comment section.

When I only drank 1 or 2 cups a day, I could quit and feel good in a couple of days. Now that I end up on about 3 cups a day, I switch to tea and taper off cos cold turkey sucks and isn't necessary. I do this about twice a year when I want to reset my caffeine tolerance... Day 1 - 2: 1 cup of tea morning + 1 cup tea afternoon. * Day 3 - 4: 1 cup of tea morning + 1 cup green tea afternoon. * Day 5 - 6: 1 cup green tea morning + 1 cup green tea afternoon. * Day 7 - 8: 1 cup green tea morning only. * Day 9: Caffeine Free!! * * no other caffeine sources, like cola, chocolate, etc. After this 1 week taper, plus 2 weeks completely off caffeine, it works well again! 👍

@eescoto71
@eescoto71 5 жыл бұрын
@@clarenceclarence9529 Does drinking coffee on a daily basis really improve your life if going without it produces addiction-like withdrawal symptoms, and you need to blame the social aspect of caffeine as the primary reason you need to come back to it? There's a social aspect to every part of being a human. You don't need to drink coffee to share an experience with friends who are drinking coffee. There's a big difference between a cup of coffee at 3am when you really need to push out a project on time once every 2 or 3 weeks and drinking it every morning because without it you essentially become a crack fiend who hasn't had their fix in 2 hours.

DUED Honestly, I don’t drink coffee socially. It’s just the tastiest way to get a caffeine fix. The most harmful aspect is what it does to your teeth, but my oral hygiene is good enough that it doesn’t make a difference. You do build up a dependency on it, but that’s okay. Some people get cranky on caffeine, but it mellows me out rightly.
