Hi Nathaniel. I stumbled across your channel and have just watched this video. I couldn't agree more with all what you're saying on here. I was a walking discography 😁😁 and could memorise hundreds of songs fully. I never thought I would ever stop listening to music completely but here I am two and a half years later :). I just took the decision and had to stick to it because that's what I wanted to do at that time and to be honest, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I never knew I was addicted to music until I realised I couldn't get some of my favourite songs out of my head long after quitting. The last song I listened to before I took the decision still pops up in my mind every now and then. I no longer miss listening to music today and I feel that my heart is at ease. I believe music fills a void in one's heart that is not supposed to be there had it been filled with something more beneficial.

I never listen to music, and haven't really thought about it. I prefer silence. The modern world is so full of sounds already, that I don't need additional noise in my day. I meditate and I'm very positive and optimistic, so I don't need external things to cheer me up or lift my mood. My joy comes from within. Have a beautiful, silent day, whoever you are reading this.

I'm SHOCKED !! Just a month ago I quit listen to it too. But not because of the same these logical reasons but because I wanted to obey my religion law as a Muslim. And I was shocked when I saw your video as you're a nonMuslim :)) You had a good point. I used to listen to it nearly for whole day !! Crazy! Quitting at the beginning wasn't that much hard but the following days I start like craving like I need chocolate... Now if wanna listen to something, I listen to "nasheeds" you can google it. There are many songs but without instruments. Or sometimes Quran. I'm not gonna talk about whether it's bad or good... You've already explained it NICELY. Anyways... nice video. ^^

I don't really listen to music ever. If I ever do, it's because someone else is playing it or it's inevitable like when watching a movie or playing a game. Songs that have lyrics (specially mainstream songs) rarely captivate me tbh, I've always found them kinda "aggressive" because of how they try to help one express feelings. Listening to someone else's voice trying to sing about my feelings has always felt really alien to me. Other than that, I really enjoy music but not enough to go searching for it.

Interesting! I have always had an interest in music. It’s hard for me to get away from it actually haha. I just love the passion that the artists put into it, even if I can’t relate firsthand to them. It’s very satisfying to listen to. Also, some music is just fun and not really emotional. Anyway, thanks for the comment :)

It’s interesting to see the difference between casual listeners and musicians/people who actively listen and analyze whilst they enjoy music. As a musician, Whenever I listen to music, I’m more likely to give it my full attention such as when driving or just listening and whatnot. I’m actually less likely to listen to music when studying in general because I get distracted by it 😅. Music plays such different parts in different peoples lives, and it is something I couldn’t live without it those moments when I’m alone or listening with others.

I've tried quitting music several times actually, particularly for religious reasons and I definitely found that it changed my ideas about music. I used to listen to it normally as a kid, musicals, KZbin etc. but after trying to quit over a few days I realised, while listening to music had benefits, those benefits were short-lived and addictive. I would go from having lots of motivation while listening, to crashing afterwards and having trouble finding my bearings or my sense of self. I actually noticed that some of my music-addicted Internet friends, who had no adhd before and who had a lot of focus would start to experience adhd-like symptoms from hours of listening to music. I feel a lot better and more like I have a purpose in life when I'm not listening to any music so I'm hoping to completely quit it one day. I think music goes on my list of things that 'have some benefits, but they're outweighed by the harms' - like alcohol. 😅 Great video tho

I used to be a musician and I've decided to quit music altogether whether it be listening or making it. Crazy isn't it? However far fetched it may seem, I spent time analysing why I made/played music. Most of the time it isolated me. Indeed when writing songs, I had to stay apart and it nullified my social interaction. When I was a teen, I'd stay locked up playing guitar but always on my own. It wasn't beneficial as I'd never dated any gal til I first quit music. I then started working and forgot about music to such a point that I never listened to any music. That lasted til 2005 when I wrongly thought of resuming music. I fell back into the same traps, playing it, listening to it and getting frustrated as my music led me to nowhere. I think I'm not all that talented otherwise I'd have been spotted so recently I decided to quit it for good. I think I don't want to listen to any music anymore and never sing nor play guitar ever again. Why? I feel it's evil TBH. I'll live again without any sound.

Guys... we need to rehydrate regularly or we'll literally die... yet drinking too much water over a short space of time will actually kill you. Point being, moderation and balance should be the goal, unless you're finding something particularly detrimental to your wellbeing. My life revolves around music, yet I also enjoy silence and solitude on a daily basis. Music can be good for you, music can be bad for you, but there are so many variables as to why each may be the case. I guess it's all about finding the balance which suits the individual

What would you recommend for someone that plays an instrument during a music fast? I'm seriously considering stopping to see what it could mean for me. Thanks in advance.

I think playing music can be very beneficial :) no problem with it during a fast.

Playing music is different from just having it on in the background for filler. I think that's what he's talking about.

Yep! I think that making/playing music is completely different than using music to fill up your time and get you by.

I guess I'm a bit weird then, because I don't think I've ever listened to music just to fill time or get me by. I do listen to music in the background while doing other things, but it is because I enjoy it and find it very beautiful.

Jokes on you, I don’t listen to music. I don’t like rap or any modern music, I like 70’s - 80’s pop though. Good video 😁😁

Not really 😂😂 music is quite motivating, at least for me. It's bad if you like, listen to it non-stop. Also it depends on the music.
