I feel like the worst thing is to *always* be on your phone, laptop, or listening to music. A 15-30 minute break every 1-3 hours is very important, without it, your brain ends up needing more and more stimulus throughout the day, and the entertainment you consume becomes less and less entertaining as you slowly numb yourself down with all that stimulus, which actually makes you want *even more* of that stimulus Or I guess positively stated, going completely offline - not even music, podcast, etc - for 15-30 minutes every 1-3 hours can really improve your mood

I love going out into nature.. However, I'm blind and have super acute hearing that doesn't turn off, so being in silence in a house...heck that noise. Most people, when they are in silence, their brain goes, "Okay, there's nothing to hear, so I'll just space out." My brain, however, keeps trying to hear something, and it will get hyperfocused on how the refrigerator just keeps making the same b-flat note over and over. It basically sounds like if I went up to a piano and just kept pressing one key over and over again for however long the silence lasts. I'm getting better about tolerating so-called silence, but when I was younger it was bloody agonizing. Also, going on a long car trip without music was absolute torture because the sound of the car motor is ear abuse to me. Music is different because it isn't the same note over and over. It has different chords and notes and it has a structure. This is why, for me, when someone suggests I try being in silence, it's pretty much like telling me to bop myself in the head repeatedly with a baseball bat.

Hinders mental clarity, but it also effects the psyche in ways we don't tend to think about. Music is tied strongly to our emotions & past. Think about, when you hear ccr, you think about the 70's or Vietnam. Just like Garth Brooks might be tied to the 90's, etc. Music binds us to our past relationships and traumas, in good ways and bad. You might have had a certain song on the radio when you found out your dad died, now when you hear that it brings you a plethora of emotions. So, yah, focus is a big part of it. I often find myself putting on music to distract myself from life. Or to help take me to the past...mostly bc I'm avoiding the present.

Hi Nathaniel. I stumbled across your channel and have just watched this video. I couldn't agree more with all what you're saying on here. I was a walking discography 😁😁 and could memorise hundreds of songs fully. I never thought I would ever stop listening to music completely but here I am two and a half years later :). I just took the decision and had to stick to it because that's what I wanted to do at that time and to be honest, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I never knew I was addicted to music until I realised I couldn't get some of my favourite songs out of my head long after quitting. The last song I listened to before I took the decision still pops up in my mind every now and then. I no longer miss listening to music today and I feel that my heart is at ease. I believe music fills a void in one's heart that is not supposed to be there had it been filled with something more beneficial.

I came here after I had to stop listening to music because I had an inflammation in my ear so I wanted to give it rest. I play the violin and guitar for years and I listen to music all day, what surprised me after stopping to listen to any music or loud noise was the huge improvement in my mood and mental health in just 3 days I was so in shook because even when something normally would bothered me now it didn't. I was more positive, focused and creative. I came here to search it up what's it like for others when they stopped listening to music too. For me now it's been over a week and even tho I can go back to listen to it I choose not to, I like the quiet much more than music, the peace of mind is way more important. If I have to practice I'll make sure it's not more than an hour a day. If you are trying to fast music you can too. I thought it would be hard but it really isn't at all. And I can't believe am saying this as someone who plays music. But I feel better without it.

I used to be a musician and I've decided to quit music altogether whether it be listening or making it. Crazy isn't it? However far fetched it may seem, I spent time analysing why I made/played music. Most of the time it isolated me. Indeed when writing songs, I had to stay apart and it nullified my social interaction. When I was a teen, I'd stay locked up playing guitar but always on my own. It wasn't beneficial as I'd never dated any gal til I first quit music. I then started working and forgot about music to such a point that I never listened to any music. That lasted til 2005 when I wrongly thought of resuming music. I fell back into the same traps, playing it, listening to it and getting frustrated as my music led me to nowhere. I think I'm not all that talented otherwise I'd have been spotted so recently I decided to quit it for good. I think I don't want to listen to any music anymore and never sing nor play guitar ever again. Why? I feel it's evil TBH. I'll live again without any sound.

It’s interesting to see the difference between casual listeners and musicians/people who actively listen and analyze whilst they enjoy music. As a musician, Whenever I listen to music, I’m more likely to give it my full attention such as when driving or just listening and whatnot. Try painting while you are studying. Try reading a book when you are watching a movie. Of course it is a distraction for you. Because you are doing it at the wrong time. I've tried quitting music several times actually, particularly for religious reasons and I definitely found that it changed my ideas about music. I used to listen to it normally as a kid, musicals, KZbin etc. but after trying to quit over a few days I realised, while listening to music had benefits, those benefits were short-lived and addictive. I would go from having lots of motivation while listening, to crashing afterwards and having trouble finding my bearings or my sense of self. I actually noticed that some of my music-addicted Internet friends, who had no adhd before and who had a lot of focus would start to experience adhd-like symptoms from hours of listening to music. I feel a lot better and more like I have a purpose in life when I'm not listening to any music so I'm hoping to completely quit it one day. I think music goes on my list of things that 'have some benefits, but they're outweighed by the harms' - like alcohol. 😅 Great video tho

Guys... we need to rehydrate regularly or we'll literally die... yet drinking too much water over a short space of time will actually kill you. Point being, moderation and balance should be the goal, unless you're finding something particularly detrimental to your wellbeing. My life revolves around music, yet I also enjoy silence and solitude on a daily basis. Music can be good for you, music can be bad for you, but there are so many variables as to why each may be the case. I guess it's all about finding the balance which suits the individual

You quitted music for 30 days and i after 8 years of gaming addiction quitted it for 100 day now I really miss it but i am 18 and i wasn't able to study so i quitted it
@alaads5944 Жыл бұрын
i just saw the title while going to search about my studies, what i wanna say is that everything is bad if not consumed in moderation, if you listen to music more during more than 2--3 activities or the majority of your day, i think it's too much. for me personally i like like to listen to classical music while studying, and phonk and rock while working out alone ,,

I'm a life long musician. I'm constantly looking for new artists and sounds. However, I set limits on it. Example, maybe one listen to music on the way into work, but not on the way home. Or Skip a few days here and there all together. Have done it for at least 10yrs now. It gives me time to reflect and think.

In islam, it's forbiden to play instruments (except duff in some cases for example in wedding party). I thought it's weird. However after trying to reduce to listen to music, I get many benefits. I feel more focus on my work, while reading, doing chorus etc. and I feel more relax.

Music is my life. My partner and I both love music. He is a music engineer and I am a composer/vocalist. We both go to a music college as well. It's really interesting to hear about people's experiences with music. Thank you for this comment.

Its a great experience to try. Its worth noting though, I think its not always music that's mentally distracting, but the type of music. For example ambient music is not as distracting as heavy metal lol.

Why do you want to quit Music?
@arwa56253 жыл бұрын
@@juicyjfan sorry i did not reply faster. the main major of that is my religion i am Muslim and we believe that music is haram that mean we are not allowed to hear them. there is no obvious reason for that god (in our religion) want to test us if we gonna do what he order or not. and there is several reasons like it is a waste of time because i like to listen to music for hours i have to focus on studying rather than that LOL. what about you? why you are here watching this video? :)
