Makes me want to try wind surfing, have surfed almost 60 years and now a prone and knee long distance paddleboard. Turning 75 next month and wow, I think of so many water sports I'd love to do. Maybe in the next life. For you young people, if You think it ,do it .

The oldest beginner we had last year was 73. If you want to try it just go for it. Sure the high speed planing is cool, but there's also a lot of fun just cruising along on a large board with a small sail.

I started windsurfing in Florida at age 9. Since then, spent 8 summers in the Gorge, 5 trips to Hatteras, a minimum of 12 sessions per year. Started wind-foiling at age 42, approaching 50 and loving the heck out of windsurfing!

Hello Nico. I even got into your video. But not about that. I would like to say to your audience that it’s possible to participate and even finish the race without being totally out of breath. Last year I took 100% “pro stuff” like “Isonic, Vapor and Chopper”. That was so hard for me, that I had to take pause twice in a race. This year I took totally opposite stuff. Pure Free ride board, G10 fin and no cam sails. As a result I had much more fun this year compared with previous. I am taking into consideration that wind strength this year and previous was different, but this year I was in Gruissan 3 days before start and got some nice gusts on the water. So I was able to compare what is happening in long distance with “pro” or “free” stuff. What is all this about. You are bit scearing off your viewers from to take a part in this magnificent event named “DefiWind”. Off course, to be in top 100 costs something, but if you want just to finish and become a part of “something great” you can do it in a easy way too. This was my third time in DefiWind and hope to go again. Video is great.

Windsurfing is one of the more "extreme" sports that I've actually tried as a teenager and was somewhat good at since I had some basic sailing knowledge. Makes me wanna go again! :)

Great video! I always love the Défi wind videos. Could you post your uncut POV race on the second channel? It is so rare to have POV from the front of the fleet. Anyway the race is a bit less than 29 km on GPS, not 40km as advertised. Otherwise it would be an insane average speed.

Top video from le Défi, I've sailed a lot on this spot (and mostly PLN where the buoy is at the end of the beach) and I've never done the Défi, too much people, moreso now with the foils. I prefer when the water is smooth and ride along the sand, rather than the mess created by all those people and the wind obstruction you get when you are in the pack, you did not even started when the pros reach the first gybe 😅tough challenge for pros, huge challenge for amateurs, I have a huge respect for all participants.

Bit curious if we'll see some evolution in the harness systems when foiling. I see some are using hybrid seat/waist, some use custom harness. I struggle a bit with back pain when I foil for too long and struggle a bit with downforce because the harness also rides up. Have you experimented with anything, seeing you mention back pain... I guess from distance here more so than anything

I can't go over the speed you're going. 40 km in 35 minutes means an average speed of 68 k/h. Mindblowing! I think I am flying when I do 10 km in 20 minutes, 30 km/h, and I hope to break my speed record of 45 k/h this year.

Just checked my GPS. The actual race was shorter than 40km. It’s always advertised as 40km, but the exact distance depends a bit on the year/course and where you start. My average speed was between 28kn and 31kn. Depending on the seaweed that sometimes got stuck on the foil. Hope that clears it up.
