Note on the Wear and Tear effect: Regarding the hardcore wear and tear that affected the Thrill's shoes and platform - it can be mostly avoided by application of lubricant maintenance oil (Each KAT Walk C package comes with a bottle of silicon oil for that purpose). 2 - 3 drops once in a while will keep the surface and the shoes smooth for hundreds of hours of walking, running and sprinting, greatly reducing the wear and tear. That said - we owe thrill's feet serious apologies - This information has not been delivered to him so that's on us!

I've looked into it, Just cant justify the price right at this moment. Far to many demands on my sadly not unlimited finances at this time. Still you guys sit in that nice middle ground of good enough to add to the immersion but not outrageously expensive. I can save up for one of yours, a few of the others I looked at were a hard nope when they outpriced my car by a couple of times.
@fsdfsdsgsdhdssd8559
@fsdfsdsgsdhdssd8559 3 жыл бұрын
You should add an auto-applicator that just applies a couple drops to the edge every 2 hours or something. That way the immersion isn't broken. Let the player distribute it when they run over it and keep the parts minimal. Although it might make them trip so a warning or something might be needed. Possibly let them apply it through a menu when they notice the surface could use some.
@KATVR
@KATVR 3 жыл бұрын
@@fsdfsdsgsdhdssd8559 Hi there! There is no threat to immersion since there is no need for applying the oil each few hours. The oil needs to be applied once in several days so it doesn't affect the gaming sessions in any way : ) The minimum effort that it takes (1 minute each few days) doesn't justify any automatic oil application system that would cause an absolutely unproportional increase in price.

Just going to bring the reality factor in, he most definitely did not travel 13 miles. I'm not saying he's not fit or even capable of travelling 13 miles in 2 hours, but with those small steps and inability to move well, 13 miles is a heavy exaggeration if you consider it for a moment. 9 minute mile pace is doable for somewhat active people, 9 minute mile pace for 13 miles is much more intense and usually is done by people who run and train often. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if Thrill could run 13 miles in 2 hours on an actual treadmill or a road race, but not with the small steps and shuffle like movement that's done on the Kat Walk C. 13 miles is a heavy, heavy exaggeration. 8 miles is a much more reasonable estimation, maybe a bit less.

Exerting yourself in VR really does make a huge difference in immersion. A lot of the "magic" of using VR (including any nausea) wore off for me after just a few weeks, but it can still come back if I'm doing something that gets me worn out. I tried out the natural locomotion demo a while ago and it was amazing to be able to just walk/run, and actually move in game, I just wish that my feet could actually slide properly at lower speeds. At higher speeds I can induce the sliding motion on purpose fairly easily. I'll probably go ahead and buy it at some point so that I can have more than 10 minutes at a time unless I can get OpenVR WIP to work properly

Things I took away from this video: 1. Skyrim VR with this level of tech is amazing 2. VR and fitness will merge into one product someday 3. We now live in a society where people think it's necessary to blur someone's face on camera if they're not wearing a mask as if they were showing their privates. That kinda shit devolves humanity.

0:28 dude it wasn't necessary to blur out your face just because you weren't wearing a mask, the thought about people running around with these masks on is ridiculous, for real this whole covid has people totally freaked out, i get why the editor might have felt like it would be a good idea to blur it out since in some parts of the world it's punishable to not wear a mask but that just proves how bizarre and ridiculous everything's gotten. i'll jump back into my fox hole and take cover from all the sheeps that are gonna yell at me because i'm a grandma killer for saying this assumably.

The reason he wears a mask on video is not because of protection from COVID. He wears it as a separation between reality and VR. In VR he can be who he wants to be, in reality he can only be who he is. The mask allows him to more personify his VR self in "live action" video. Also wearing a mask indoors around others is precisely where you want to be wearing one. In fact the place you are most likely to catch COVID is in your home, because you are not wearing a mask around your family members.

I think Jacob Geller had a really good point in his video about objects, Half Life Alyx was so immersive because of the intimacy of you yourself picking up an object and holding it. I think the more we can make vr become even more intimate, and closer to normality then we will have a true escape… a place to get fit as well
