I think he should transition to 5k or 10k. It’s quite natural as you age and lose that top VO2max to go for longer distances where such numbers are less important

The Heart Rate Monitor clearly failed when it dropped by 30 BPM and never went up. Your heart didn't slow down - that's not possible in an all out like that
@jasonlaw10797 ай бұрын
It was probably wrong when it was 195 and finally corrected itself after awhile. Getting to max heart rate in 45 seconds and staying there for a minute is super sus. It probably confused cadence with heart rate.

That's so cool how you put the time up on the screen and the route also. Your hr fell as you ran. Sub 5 is a good pace but that tendon is a tough one. Hopefully you enjoyed the run and didn't feel like it was slow or something disappointing cause that's a good starting pace and your form will return over a few weeks. Sometimes a break can be a good thing if the injury is fully healed as opposed to bad quality training while it lingers.

I thought your one mile time trial without training and recovering from injury demonstrated a wonderful combination of strength, guts, mental fortitude, and....stupidity! Yes, no training for weeks and weeks, so.....lets take it out at 4 minute pace! Ok Jakob! I do think if you would have started around 5:15 pace, your heart rate would not have hit the 190's, and maybe stayed in the 170's and 160's, and you would have been under 4:50. However, you have guts and strength. If I grade for those qualities you have an A+. Starting pace....yeah, your grade would require you to take the class over!

Dude I didn't even know that was a thing where your heart rate could just drop 20+ bpm out of nowhere while still giving max effort. Holy shit.
@frankcaliendosucks7 ай бұрын
My guess is that it didn't and his watch did the same "cadence lock" thing that Garmin does. Basically, the wrist HR picks up your steps, so your running cadence screws up and replaces the HR for a while. It's a super common problem with these watches
@joshuasmith12157 ай бұрын
@@frankcaliendosucks pretty sure his cadence was more than the HR though
@LantzBenjamin7 ай бұрын
@@joshuasmith1215 99% chance it’s something with the monitor. Unless we want to believe that wasn’t close to all out, your HR won’t drop. It could flatline, maybe slightlyyyy decline, but it is never going to tank unless you really let off the gas and drop back to a recovery pace. Soooo 99% chance it moved, or messed up.

Hey bro, having a heart rate drop from ~190s to ~160s like that during an all out effort is not a normal physiological response from your body. You should really go see a cardiologist about that.

I have the high heart rate thing when running too. I got it up to 207 running a hard workout in high school. I could never do zone training because I do zone 3 on an easy walk. But resting heart rate always low. Even now pushing 50 and running maybe 20 miles a week it'll drop into the upper 30s.

Correct me it im wrong but i think your Hr plummeting is just the coros band giving wrong data lol 😅
@TheAthleteSpecial7 ай бұрын
The Coros band has been super accurate for me over the last few months of my training, so I trust the data. I think that the drop in HR pretty directly reflects my pace data--I went out at 4:10 pace and then slowed to 5:00-5:10 pace for the rest of the mile. Due to rigging, I could not muscularly handle the fast pace, even though aerobically I could. So this mile was not an aerobic all-out effort, even though it was muscularly all-out.
@LantzBenjamin7 ай бұрын
@@TheAthleteSpecial Eh. That doesn’t make any sense my boi. It messed up, clear as day. I get that this is sponsored, and you may not want to comment on it. But, you said it yourself, your HR is high, that means it should be high when your going 5:00 flat, regardless of if you let off the pace from 4:10 or not. The same day as this run, you did a 1 mile run at 7:00 flat, and got your HR to 186. So during this run, after crushing a 400 at 4:10 pace, and settling into essentially a 5:00 flat pace, we can safely assume your heart shouldn’t drop back to 165… If we assume both of these runs recorded properly, then booking a full 12-lead stress test with your cardiologist might be a good idea. Who cares, monitors mess up all the time, especially if they aren’t chest straps.
@LantzBenjamin7 ай бұрын
@@TheAthleteSpecial Sorry, not to beat a dead horse, but your 2nd local legends race further supports the previous comment. Looks like it wasn’t turned on for 1/2 the race, then mistook your HR to be around 145 (very low, especially for someone with a high HR) compared to what it should’ve been for the 2nd half of that race🤷♂️ New video is great btw👍 can’t be beaten👍

hey Spencer! I'm a mid d runner who struggled most of the last 2 years with achilles issues, and what has finally turned it around is giving up carbon plates. Even have given up the dragonflys at least for now. I highly recommend getting a light, flexible flat like the Saucony Sinister for racing and speed work, and, if you're going to try supershoes again ease into them really, really slow. Like literally only 2 min in them once a week to start. I've come to terms with giving them up completely. They are super hard on the achilles after it's been weakened.
