Technically 🤓 Wrong. If you watch the iRacing school of driving videos, OC here is actually entitled to take the corner and the Aston HAS to concede the space he tried to take to avoid divebombing the apex. Rule 1 of overtaking, the overtaking driver must do it safely and all responsibility falls on them. I didnt make the rules...

Agreed he clearly had faster pace, the smart move to preserve your race was to give up the position when it was safe and to slot in behind him and continue to catch his draft. Hopefully using his draft to widening the gap with the cars behind you. Sorry your race was ruined mate. It happens.
@AXIDNT66 Жыл бұрын
For the first one with the Aston, when you are going to give up the position anyways there's no reason to drag it out as you just risk the guy getting impatient or miscommunication or awkward crash like that. You should have just let him go at turn 1 when he made the move the first time really. When he pulled out of your mirror going into the hairpin, you could have just braked gently a little early and let him slip past. You had nothing to gain by holding onto the spot until the back straight. One of the most important lessons for both rookie racing on iRacing and sprint racing in general is choosing your battles. A lot of times you will lose far more by trying to fight too hard to hang onto every position. It gets harped on a lot by real life touring car drivers. Also you really need to practice bleeding off slowdown penalties. The way you parked it on track could have easily caused a wreck, and the guys behind were likely yelling "what is this idiot doing!?" Lift and coast earlier, and remember you can bleed off a little at a time, it doesn't all need to be at once.

I really love the way the video ends. Regarding the first incident at Goodyear-Kehre (FKA Dunlop-Kehre): I would say it's your fault as the driver behind had limited mobility under braking while you were steering in. Of course you could argue that you didn't see him, but you have to be prepared for that, I'd just say your track awareness was bad in this instance.

Few things to take away from this - Get a spotter it will help when you are getting tunnel vision on the racing lines and not the track. Keep an eye on lap times of other drivers, if they are a fair bit ahead of you each lap consistently let them pass. Far better than being aggressive and ending both your races. Its not about how you start its about how you finish, if you can race clean and get up into the other ranks these things happen less. But before all that you have to work on your race ethic and its about studying the nuances which will enable you to think more on track about the subtle things that count more than just being the fastest.
@kevinking9752 Жыл бұрын
A lot of guys saying that spin at 5:00 was your fault but I disagree: It's a bit of a racing incident that's maybe 70/30 the Aston's fault. 1. If the Aston was much faster out of the last corner, he wouldn't have only been able to stick a nose into the corner, he'd would've been almost side by side. Catching up with someone especially from behind doesn't mean the person has to move out of your way unless you've beaten them to the actual corner. He literally had no chance of passing Oscar at that corner unless he veered off the track or stayed on the outside and even then, what the hell was that line? If Oscar's not there, that a GARBAGE line he's taking that would lose him a few seconds for sure. Despite popular belief, it's also the overtaker's responsibility to overtake safely as well. I think the general rule is that if you get there first, it's your corner, getting into your slip stream and taking the ideal line behind tiy would've GUARANTEED him a pass on the next straight. It was an optimistic, impatient lunge that was 'either move out of my way, or we're crashing, your choice' that was shortsighted because it allows cars behind to also catch up while you wedge your way into a corner you had no chance of making with any reasonable amount of speed. Because if you're anywhere close to someone, all you have to do is brake a little later to try parking yourself on the apex and hope the other guy gets out of your way, and it isn't Oscar's responsibility to give him every opportunity to overtake. 2. ALL THAT SAID, you completely ignored your spotter who told you someone was to your right, and instead of deciding to take and outside line so that you're not taking the chance of the guy taking you out, you went for it anyway. Sometimes it's worth it to give up a position or stay on the outside and keep the pressure on him in case that dive loses him a bunch of time or he screws up the next corner. It doesn't make what the Aston did anymore unfair, but unfortunately LOTS of guys on open lobbies drive like this, without regard for safety and the attitude that it's everyone else's responsibility to make way for them just because they're closing in. Long short: you should've listened to your spotter, but he had no shot at passing you and sticking his nose in the corner to prevent you from taking your line when you get their first was dangerous as hell. It's moments like these when no matter how much equipment we buy or how serious we are about simracing, guys are acutely aware they're playing a video game and will take those risks because they don't have to answer to an actual racing team who are providing a car that costs tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars that you wrecked because you thought you were faster than someone and they should've gotten out of your way. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

@OCRacing Жыл бұрын

@k-tech2937 Жыл бұрын
You've got the pace, now you need to work on your spacial awareness, except the last one you could have avoided all of the other accidents. On the formation, lap be always prepared to break hard. Watch this one again, you see the guy tapping his brake and then you accelerate, and realistically that guy wouldn't tap his brakes for nothing so your alarm should have gone off and you should have been prepared to break hard. Then the spin, while this was a bit of an opportunistic move from the other guys, you made this possible by leaving the door wide open. Your best bets, in that case, would have either to be on the inside line coming to the turn to block and then proceed to hold the apex and maybe actually being a bit slower through the corner forcing the other guy to brake and then accelerate and pull away (while not nice this is a legit tactic in racing) or maybe more cleanly stay on the outside and keep watching your mirrors if you seem him lunge, let him and then proceed to take the better line and overtake him on the straight with better exit speed (would be the most sensible thing to do in. the beginning of the race. The next one is purely on you, you violated track limits, I agree that the punishment was too harsh, but you proceeded to serve it on the racing line blocking all the others, this is against the rules and can actually be protested, be careful with this. You did a good job of letting other cars pass, at first, but on the straight, you lost your spacial awareness, you should always know where are other cars around you, the blind spot is not an excuse, you should have known that he was there. Nothing wrong with the accident at 8:30, you left enough room. However be mindful that the drivers in that split are far away from being pros, so sometimes giving a bit more room might be a safer option, but still, it is all on that guy who spun. The last one is pure BS however and should be reported, the contacts during the chicane were imho ok for the last lap of hard racing. But this guy has an ego problem and couldn't handle being slower than you, so please report it, guys like him should be banished from racing, I bet this is not his first and not his last move like this, so better to report him and get rid of him sooner than later. All in all your attitude is great though because instead of just raging on others you already ask yourself what YOU can do better and this is awesome and will give you great results :) TLDR: Last guy should be reported, all the other accidents could have been avoided with better special awareness.
@SimThrills4U Жыл бұрын
You were the cause for a lot of those incidents but the last one he probably thought it was a cheap move to dive into the second to last corner like that with a horrible line and you had to park it to make thr corner which made him park it and almost lose another spot

I agree he caused or at the very least could have avoided most of those incidents. However the last was second to last turn on the last lap. It is racing and last lap a different set of rules apply. The other driver assumed the move was dirty and retaliated.

But still feel i would would have done what he did and since i was in your mirrors alot i would have expected you to know i was coming there, í even knew watching the video. . Concerning the incident with the Aston: In my opinion, if you are going for an overtake down the inside, you shouldn’t do it as half-heartedly as that guy did since that is what leads to incidents like this Because you couldn’t see him in your mirrors anymore, you could have guessed where he was but that’s in a split second Only thing you did wrong was almost completely ruling an overtaking attempt out because you wouldn’t do it at that place I think To me it’s a racing incident, though the Aston is definitely more to blame

Everyone makes mistakes in the heat of the moment but you should lift your hands up and admit it instead of questioning whether you were or not at fault. Other cases debatable. Especially the third you didn't do anything wrong, you have a right to squeeze him as long as you leave a car length but he didn't do much wrong ether because you came by his side trying to squeeze him suddenly from the other side of the road a little after he already took the corner and couldn't change his trajectory. The last one is obvious of course. Near the end that guy awakened the 5 year old inside him that didn't want to lose no matter what.

All in all, you need to focus on yourself. You could be so much faster than you are. From the footage I've seen here you are quite far off top split pace. You will get there, focus on removing the errors and getting on the optimal lines through corners. Do some practice, then boot up VRS and compare your driving to the tutors lines and inputs. You will find seconds!! Get up and out of these bottom end splits where these swamp creatures dwell.

When you're driving wheel to wheel, you can't have a "qualifying" mindset i.e. hitting your apexes no matter what. Apart from spatial awareness, that many commenters have mentioned, in each of the incidents, you kept saying "my line"- and this is where i found the problem. There's no "my line" while fighting for position. The line keeps changing according to the situation. All the optimal entry, apex and exit points are sacrificed to keep it clean. In my opinion, you gotta change this mindset and you're fine to go. The pace is there, absolutely. Just the mindset/decision-making you gotta work on.

The unpopular truth is: These incidents were avoidable. You aren’t treating your car like it’s real. Sure in the first two incidents you gave the drivers enough room, but they aren’t skilled drivers and need MORE room. If you were a rookie driving a real GT4 car through those corners and lost sight of the other cars you would be MUCH more careful. The last pass was a divebomb and I applaud you for pulling it off, but it’s risky and you won’t find yourself pulling moves like that when championships are on the line. The driver that hit you was an ass and will likely have their account banned if it happens again - but you should have just given up the position and filed a protest. At the end of the day you’re an inexperienced driver. You aren’t racing for the championship, you’re racing for experience. A huge part of racing is safety and you need to focus on consistently finishing races with low incidents - and that means avoiding incidents like these.
@TheOfficialOriginalChad Жыл бұрын
Also it’s worth adding: if you practice enough, you’ll get fast enough to qualify better. I can’t tell you how many races I’ve podiumed simply because all the reckless drivers and wrecks happened BEHIND me.

You overtook him fair and square, people think you did something wrong there because the guy ended up bumping you in the entry of the corner, that happened because that chicane in the Nurburgring GP layout is a pain in the ass just like Monza T1. The guy was a manus, thats that, the people who say "oh you shouldve been alongside the guy to make the move" their opinion is just wrong, I respect their opinion, altho I firmly believe theyre 1000% wrong, those people are against exciting racing, they want to see that boring ass racing the FIA introduced into F1

@samgendler Жыл бұрын
This sure looks like it is largely your own doing. You seem to expect everyone else to drive perfectly, leaving yourself to occupy all of the available space for mistakes and carelessness. Racing doesn't work that way, particularly in sub-2000 irating splits, where you definitely cannot count on other drivers to always do the right thing. If you are passing someone on the outside in a curve, you need to assume they will take a standard inside line and just not run all the way to outside, instead leaving you a car's width to occupy on the outside. Instead, you seem to be assuming that they will hug the inside curb all the way around so that you can occupy the rest of the track. That's never going to happen. And while it is pretty dumb for someone to be sticking their nose up the outside when there is no chance they are actually going to pass, giving you the opportunity to hit them, it's certainly on you to be situationally aware when changing your line at all when you've got other cars in close proximity. Not that I don't make similar mistakes - all the damn time - but it is clear where the fault lies. The difference between a successful driver and an unsuccessful one in sub-2000 splits is less about absolute lap times and much more about who has fewer incidents over the course of a race. When I drive conservatively and allow anyone who pushes really hard to ride right on my tail to come by, I end up with much better results then when I defend and resist attempts to pass right up to the point where the other driver screws up and takes us both out (if, in fact, I don't end up doing that myself). That guy running as fast as he can with no regard for safety and no buffer between my car and his WILL hit someone else if you deny him the chance to hit you, and that will allow you to come past him again. Often, I don't even have to wait until the end of the lap before I sail by while he's is spinning in the grass or scraping himself off a wall.. If driving as fast as you are able can't keep you out of incidents, then you are actually driving over your ability.. Your actual level is the pace where you can finish a race such that your only incidents are the occasional wheel off the track. Spins, crashes, and time penalties all suggest you are not able to retain situational awareness and response time and still go as fast as you are going. Slow down by 5% and (again, this probably only applies to sub-2000 splits) you'll usually actually get a better result due to having fewer setbacks over the course of the race. Your safety rating will thank you, too.

@OC Racing meaning it speaks volumes to how angry about it you were. Didn't have to say anything after just ended it. I picture alot of cussing went on. I know I would have.

A car radar overlay in iracing would prevent so much misery, frustration and accidents. I know, not “realistic”. But it is simracing, where you do not have complete realistic view of your surrounding, specially drivers on single monitor.

Similar shit happens to me. I payed a lot for tracks and in return one small mistake of following my line ends up in bad rating

If an other car is beside you, even only half of it, you have to make space for it, you *cannot* hold your line...

What’s the overlay you have up on your 4th screen?

A software called SimHub running some telemetry data 👍

Yeah unfortunately some of those were your fault. The 7 11 aston wasn't, he had room. The chicane at the end was good. Good close door to door racing. Him taking you out before the line was his fault. Need a spotter. And to get faster, slow down your corner entries. You're braking a bit too late, overcooking the entries, and then turning the wheel too much. All of which is taking away steering and costing you a significant amount of time per lap. Slow it down on entry, don't brake with as much pressure as you are, don't turn the wheel as much and you'll be surprised how much time you pick up.

6:30 You have a mirror on your right side. We can all see it, It's not your blind spot. It's a failure to check your surroundings.

king posted but king was at fault for that first spin with the aston tho, you knew he was somewhere there, could probably have seen it in your mirror, but kinds turned like he wasn't there happens still your fault king's f1 predictions?

I'm a dirty driver because I'm a bad driver and fly off the track and get covered in dirt!! But seriously I just signed up for iRacing and just doing test laps until I feel confident to go race without doing demolition derby I've actually been on a race track 100's of times 😅

The contact before the straight feels like it was both players fault, even from the video I saw him going into your blind side and while yes you can’t see you should have know subconsciously and left a bit more space tho that’s in hindsight. I guess if it were me I would be blaming him too but when you look at the replay it seems like a different story. You get tunnel vision and only focus on the front when pros know the back is the most important thing to focus on cause you never know when theyll send it from a mile away and it’s better to lose the place than get spun out and loose more. The ending tho was just pure filth that guy definitely did it on purpose and I hope you reported him cause that’s the kind of thing that ruins the game for everyone.

well. honestly, from my POV is great to see, that I'm not the only one who have sh*tshow races. so, many thanks for that! :) the cut of track penalty: it's (I think) clear to me. near the racing line you've crossed the white line with all 4 wheels. last driver... lack of sportsmanship. politically correctly...

dude just use some addons alerting you where the cars are or listen to the spotter. You have all the screens, mirrors and still catch crashes that could have been prevented
