I Ranked Every Assassin's Creed Game...

So I've ranked so many things Assassin’s Creed like settings, cities, outfits and so on. However, the one I haven't done until now is the actual games. And now that Mirage has been released, I can finally make this video. I’m well aware that this video is probably the most controversial video I've made because I might not rank your favorite game as high as you want, so try not to get triggered. Instead of leaving a comment insulting me or the video, why not give your reasoning. I’m more than happy for discussions. Anyway this video will include spoilers so bear that in mind.

im playing odyssey again finally after dropping it 3 years ago and it paid off once you immerse yourself in alexios or kassandra you really get the full expierence of the story and it is so good. only downside i would say is leveling up is a bit hard other than that the game is really good

One time had to play through 4 of the most boring side quests ever for 3 hours just to be able to get up by one level so I could progress to a mainline mission. And after that I STILL was 2 levels short. Imo it is not a well designed rpg

Black Flag will forever and always be my favorite Assassins creed. It drew me in like very few games ever had. And had such a perfect combination of insane fun gameplay and beautiful story/characters. And the ending. God damn that ending.

When you put an "auto pick for me" into your skill tree you know you have too many useless nodes. I never noticed any difference when choosing the little +% skills in Valhalla.

They would have gotten away with it if they only gave you a skill point every 5 levels and then cut away all the percentage increase nodes. Then each level is a stat increase and every 5 levels allows you to unlock a perk.

It was actually really fun To be fair I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the rest of the trilogy. They were really good games besides the hate. I just really dislike the combat and leveling systems That aside, they are amazing games

That is because the skull tree in Valhalla isn't supposed to be "skill based like oddysey". It is more linear in the sense that you get points and then just choose what you want randomly.

I agree that Rogue needed more time to develop and focus more on the story of being a templar, but I think it actually implemented a lot of cool stuf. For example you can now get boarded by enemy ship, assassins are one of the most interesting enemy types, jumping at you from building, attacking from bush etc. Instead of assassinating mission you are defending assassin target. I think saying that it is basicly DLC for Black Flag and doesn't implement anithing is not giving it enough credit that Rogue deserves.

My unpopular opinion is I loved Syndicates combat. It was fast paced and filled with cool animations. Yeah it took a while to kill an enemy but it felt like you were taking them apart piece by piece. I loved it! Especially the 4 person takedowns.

This game defintely connects to people on whole other level in oppose to the other AC's. I havent seen more people say how special Origins is to them compared to all the other games. In terms of creating amazing memorable moments, Origins is by far one of the best.

AC Unity is my second favorite in the series. By the time I played it, I had 0 bugs. Also, In my option, it has the best parkour, stealth, combat, and setting in the series. I also enjoyed the story.

By the time I played it, it had 0 bugs too. But it wasn't as good as the recent hype suggests. There's some interesting and fun bits but most of it is rinse and repeat. There's a lot of jank in there too.

I love seeing Origins get it's due. The setting is quite possibly my favorite in a any game ever. It's so majestic and fun to explore ancient Egypt. Even thought I have some problems with the story towards the end of the game, it's still incredible. It's the only AC game that I'm inclined to replay pretty frequently these days.

Origins is so good. I know not everyone liked the shift in the series; I get it, but I think it *needed* to happen. Of all the new generation AC games, I think Origins was by far the best at sticking to the assassin theme while creating something new and exciting. It struck a balance very few other games in the series are able to. Furthermore, its story, setting, characters and missions are all among the best in AC imo. Ultimately, AC Origins is my favourite AC game of all. If I'm being objective I would rate ACII above it, but otherwise I think its easily top 3, top 5 at the least in any list.

i love that you pointed out the Homestead missions in AC 3 bc for me they really made the Game in terms of Charakterdepth from connor so much better. I hope one day they manage to do something in this direction in future AC title. I think the next Games gonna get even better if they find the right formular of classic AC(story,stealth,parkour,setting) and rpg(pls with an option to instant assasinate) combined looking forward to that.

I got introduced to the Assassin's Creed franchise from my friend years ago, however I never really got to play the game as him and his mom played it all of the time. But I got my first AC copy back in 2012 when I was 13 or 14 years old and it was AC 2. And I'm really glad that was the game that introduced me to the franchise. I don't know 100 percent if AC 2 is my number 1 pick, but I'd have no issues putting it there. It's an absolute masterpiece of an AC game and a game in general.

I really think you’re underrating rogue. Since they got to reuse almost all of the assets, it got to shine through its mission structure. In my opinion, it’s assassination missions and mission where you generally have to be stealthy are some of the most fun in the series

Which is the main reason I think those games are overrated and Ezio fanboys are hypocrites and completely ruined the series for me. Their cynical outlook and hating every game that doesn't have their precious mary sue character, Ezio, pisses me off so much. Revalations is the laziest sequel, and 2 has so many problems with it that should NEVER make it the best game in the series in ANYONES eyes. My favorite AC game is, to the surprise of some, AC Revelations. This is because I find the setting of Constantinople and the side characters fantastic. The story is fantastic, both past and future, to me, and I love it when Ezio sees Altair and Desmond. It was also great how it wrapped the story of two ancestors at the same time and very well.

Homestead missions in AC3 were golden, it's a fresh thing to do for a main character to forget about killing enemies (they need a rest too). From watching people's activities, helping them in needs, creating their own flag, even attending & saving someone's wedding.

Definitely an underrated game in the series. People often look down on it because of the repetitive mission structure and limited gameplay, but the story had a lot of focus and the build-up to the final villain was pretty suspenseful. Also had a great soundtrack & level design for its time, I think even today its world still feels believable.

The Shadeya quest and the fact we got 2 other side quests that gave us her rest and revenge etc. Overall Bayek ( as a character ) ancient Egypt and the DLC got me replaying this game multiple times.

I have to push back on Valhalla a little bit tbh. I think Randvi and Eivor's friendship was sweet and Ceolbert's story in particular was heartbreaking. While I do think the stories' conclusion wasn't handled the best, to say there were zero bonds formed and no chemistry with the characters is just false.

Out of all AC games, if I was to recommend only one, that would be AC Origins. Judging just by the sand and cloth physics alone, you can see how much development effort was put into the game. It may not be the best in the series, but it is the most fluid, functional and detail packed game. Yeah, Valhalla may be functional too, but it is also EMPTY and boring, with the most simple barebones mechanics..

I've also been playing AC since 2007 and I agree with a lot of these but I would've put Odyssey way higher. I absolutely love Origins and I'd still rank that one higher for the setting and main character. But Odyssey took Origins' great gameplay and made it even better. It's such good game that's really underappreciated.

AC2 is my fav game in the franchise too, however I revisited it years later with the DLC which I didn't initially have in my first playthroughs. I thought the DLC was really off putting, the pace and missions weren't in line with the main story and felt like filler. Further the templar strongholds had weird proportioned parkour setups, with desks, books cases and beds at a gigantic scale. Comparing the strongholds to the base game tombs, the tombs felt more well planned and better designed.

This is probably the best AC ranking I've seen on KZbin 🙌🏻 i would only make a few changes for my personal list, and tbh this vid has helped put my list in perspective. Nothing will beat AC2 ❤ only thing I disagree with is Rogue - it was a solid entry linking AC3, 4, and Unity

There is so much things to look at when doing those games rankings - one person is praising AC Revelations for interesting story with emotional finale, other will point out that it's basically fourth game with same mechanics (engine, animations, ect). Someone will put Syndicate on a high position, because it's their first contact with the franchise, so they have a special place in heart for this game. Should I rate Oddysey as game in general, or as AC game? Is modern day needed or not? For me it's very hard to judge AC franchise, because there are so many things to be concern of,, so many points of view, so when creating that list, it's impossible to get most of people agreeing with you. Odyssey was my favorite before I went back and played Unity. If it wasn’t an AC game it wouldn’t be hated on like this. I put like 180 hrs into that game. I’ve tried to play Origins and I just couldn’t get into the story. I think AC games really are dependent on if your interested in the setting.

I like Rogue for being an anti-sequel. It's similar to Black Flag, but the MC is a templar not an Assassin/pirate, it goes from BF's exotic Caribbean to the ice region that is the North Atlantic, the ship is smaller and so better for River Valley, the sidecontent is a bit better in my opinion (Storm Fortress is great).. So overall Rogue is just more of BF in a different way... So, if you look at it as a game, ignoring BF exists, it's really good. And I like Brotherhood more than 2 ALTHOUGH it's also very similar. And no, the multiplayer I could never experience.

Rogue lacks in story a lot compared to blackflag. And it feels like the story in the game was just a draft they went with. It doesn’t explain why a guy like shay who wasn’t very high ranking got such major jobs. And also the fact he only joined the Templars because of a misunderstanding. The game also made the assassins the bad guys for absolutely 0 reason when it could’ve been an actual conflict

I personally have enjoyed Valhalla since launch. I have over 100 hours and haven’t even finished the main story. That’s where the issue comes in, the story is done is a branching manner that kinda forced you to follow those branches. This just causes the main story to take longer to complete by forcing you to do other stories in between. There is too much in the open world too. Too many treasures, world events and such. They’re all menial tasks that are ok in short bursts but to try and grind them out all in one playthrough is unimaginable to me. Which is why, years later, I haven’t even finished the main story. I don’t even own the DLC so that would add even more time. I think a lot of my enjoyment came from being a fan of anything Viking.

I am half way through rogue and I just find it really fun because of how short it is I find that I spend time on most assassin’s creeds and get bored a quarter way through but I’ve spent the past two days playing it and I find that it feels like more of a sense of achievement every time I finish a sequence rather than thinking that it took way too long but that’s just my opinion and I definitely do agree with some of your thoughts.

Rogue is my personal favorite game but i understand its flaws To me Rogue is just a shinier version of AC4 even if it has a shorter story, worse writing, ect. To me i just like the world, moment to moment gameplay, all the QoL updates, AC4/Rogue has my favorite combat system, and Shay's white Templar Master outfit (NOT the 11th century one) is my favorite outfit in AC history Also it really hit me hard because i played AC2-4 and Unity before i played Rogue, so it filled in so many questions and holes and stuff No way you put AC Odyssey above Rogue 🤓

The graphics are horrible, the assassination animations are limited. Altair character is boring and bland. The parkour is funky and climbing is slow. The game doesn't do the time period justice. The main villian is mid Lack of stealth gadgets. The attention to detail and graphics are bad. So what else do you need to tell you that AC1 doesn't hold up in the current era. If you use the excuse about the time period, well than don't crticse games like Mirage for having graphics on par with Origins which is 6+ years old.

The assassination animations are fine despite being few than later entries, Altiars character was annoying in the beginning but his growth and the way he questions everything about his mission is very well done, that and his growth with the other characters like Malik who grows to forgive Altiar. I think ac1 has some of the best dialogue. The dialogue during each Templar kill and with the master of the brotherhood are beautifully done and were way better than AC2 one dimensional Templars. The music and the score are amazing and perfectly encapulates its atmosphere and time period. The villain was anything but bland, only problem with how his story unfolded was that the game is less cinematic than AC2s story presentation. Other than that, AC1s villain is a much stronger character than Rodrigo Borgia. Only real thing I thnk hurts the game is the repetitive nature in its mission design and lack of fun open world activities which are pretty big problems but the story and atmosphere are solid. So no bro, not everyone agrees with your take on AC1. From my perspective your AC1 take is completely garbage.

Funnily enough my list is almost identical to yours, but for two things: I’d swap Revelations and Origins personally (but fair enough), and swap Mirage and AC3-which is what I’d love to talk more about. I say that with an asterisk however, because I haven’t played AC3 in a very, very long time, so in my mind it stands as a B-tier game: solid, but something of a transition game that tries to modernise the style of AC1-ACR, and has its ideas refined more in Black Flag. But I have been planning to replay it very soon, so I might find, like you, that I end up enjoying it more than I remembered. This is more a defence of Mirage, which I group with Unity as A tier games that I love, and that are *nearly* among the best. And I kinda need to talk about both. Unity tried to deliver everything I’d hoped the series would become from day 1: refined stealth, complex parkour, a more punishing combat system that encourages you to play more like an Assassin, and a rich historical city setting-honestly, the level of detail that went into Paris was incredible. It had the potential to be my favourite AC game ever, personally. Unfortunately, it suffers from having insufficient time and care put into it, and from being rushed out. The story is underwhelming, the side content feels very bloated (though definitely not unique within the franchise in that respect), and the mechanics can be extremely janky and frustrating at times, even today. I can’t put Unity lower than A-tier because when it works, it provides the best experience I’ve ever had with an AC game. But when it doesn’t, I can’t help but feel a little bitter for all its wasted potential, which led greatly to a decline in the franchise. In contrast, I think Mirage, though built off a Valhalla engine, pursues the ethos of Unity in many ways, taking a very similar approach to combat and stealth, while I argue offering a more polished experience. Obviously the parkour is a lot more basic, which is one of the two real downsides Mirage has for me-but as much as I would have loved to see Unity’s parkour just get pasted in and refined, I knew going into Mirage that this wouldn’t be possible. Ubi Bordeaux was stuck grappling with Valhalla’s system, and they tried to compensate through stellar level design. I think they actually did as well as they possibly could have, with what they had to work with. Basim still handled smoothly and I really enjoyed traversing the rooftops of Baghdad, even if the parkour system was ultimately more style over substance. So I could let the parkour slide, though I understand why others might have still been a bit put off, given how integral parkour is to the series. My main critique, that I fully agree with, is against the story. I think this is by far Mirage’s weakest point, and while I think the rest of the game’s elements compensate for the poor storytelling, this is what really stops Mirage from being an S-tier game for me. Because everything else, I really loved. I argue the stealth system was actually the best we had in the series, doing away with a lot of the clunk Unity had. I also thought the city of Baghdad was beautifully realised, and the soundtrack was one of the best we’ve had in the series that, while perhaps easily overlooked, blended so seamlessly with the setting and really enhanced the experience of exploring. You raise the point that Mirage feels more like a DLC as it is far less dense with side content, but for me that was actually a positive. I think they actually went for quality over quantity, which I really appreciate. The assassination contracts were fun and well-thought out missions, and while limited, I would much rather have 20 of those and a few Tales of Baghdad than 80 of Unity’s uninspired Paris Stories. I Platinumed Mirage and immediately decided to do another playthrough, approaching the game this time through a series of self-imposed restrictions. I still had a lot of fun replaying those side missions and thinking of how I could approach them differently-in contrast to how burnt out I would feel after finishing a completionist run of Unity, or even Brotherhood, which I replayed just before Mirage came out. I really think the fact that the game had quality mission loops and left me wanting more (in my opinion, at least) is not a bad thing, and is preferable. It stripped out so much of the bloat. The game had *soul*. I also like that they integrated the historical/codex entries into the game, because even if side missions were scant, I thought it made exploring Baghdad really fun and rewarding as I would be learning something new about the world at every turn. Most of all though is the amount of passion and care the little team at Ubi Bordeaux put into Mirage. I think here of the tribute to fans they left in the credits. As much as I do love Unity, I think Mirage set out to correct a lot of the mistakes that started with that game. I can definitely understand why some people may have wanted more content, but I really appreciate that for once, they didn’t get too ambitious for their own good. They were aware of their limitations and tried to deliver a simple, yet polished proper “Assassin” experience that can be built upon in future releases. No, it does not reach the same heights Unity did, but I felt like Mirage did everything it set out to do, and it respected the player’s time and money. This is purely my opinion, but for that, I can’t help but consider it one of my favourites, and feel a little bit more optimistic for where the series goes from here.

This is why Assassin's Creed is such a great franchise. Whilst I don't agree with your ranks I 100% respect them because we all have free will and enjoy each games for difference reasons. For instance Vallhalla is one of my favourites, for many reasons but I understand why people dislike it. Absolutely loved Valhalla. The sheer amount of original content, expansions and raids made the game playable for literally years. I may be partial to anything pagan or norse inspired but that aside I thought the game was fantastic.
