I think the only one I disagree with is Wondefful as I think it's been a good return to form with it's characters and story, while yes others might miss the fights but for this season it fit not having them and some of the chase scenes were really good and did get very creative, this is a bit of bias but I loved how they handled the characters and Iroha's and Satoru's relationship, it felt natural and fleshed out while Nyammy still had her growing to being with the group and Mayu with his social anxiety, Komugi has been a treat and gotten many laughs from me and just being that ball of sunshine/energy that holds the group together

I find the timing of this to be quite interesting. For context, three friends and I have recently started to take the plunge into Precure as a series based on exposure to it from a character collecting bot on Discord. At first we were just grabbing the random fairies because they were cute, but it would eventually lead us to look into the series properly. We've chosen a series on our own at the start. One friend who started this whole ordeal chose Heartcatch, and he absolutely loved it. I've seen bits and pieces and it looked really cool. He has currently finished this series and is debating on what to watch next. Another friend had chosen Tropical Rogue, and he recently finished it. He's left conflicted and shared his grievances with us. He likes some of the characters, both cure and villains, but others not so much, and the lack of plot he really didn't like. He is currently watching Sky and seems to be enjoying it. About 13 episodes in. Yet another friend has chosen A La Mode because he's incredibly infatuated with the food/sweets aesthetic. He seems to really enjoy it. About 25 episodes in. He plans to watch Delicious Party at a later time, but is choosing Witchy for his next one. And a final friend jumped aboard late, but chose princess. He seems to.enjoy it, but is still early on. For myself, I have been watching Huggto, and I'm 30 episodes in. Personally, when I started, I didn't know what to expect, and had kind of a bad mindset, but being so far in now, I genuinely love it a ton. I feel really invested in the plot and it's characters. An absolute ton of emotional moments have really got to me, and I really want to continue forward. I say this more in the vein of expectations. I know not every precure series left is going to have the same kind of investment in story, character, action (I was enlightened to this when a friend was comparing Tropical Rogue to it.) While I'm still a ways away from finishing it, I've begun to ponder what my next precure series should be. (We've been preventing overlap and also plan to watch the original together.) I'm worried that huggto may have set expectations too high, so I've been trying to temper that. I suppose ultimately what I would look for on the next one would be good fairies. Ones that are cute, sure, but are also active/useful in some sort of capacity instead of just being another thing to look at. I do wonder if it's something feasible really, or if this is another wrong expectation to have. Having an open conversation like this with someone who is super informed on the series would be helpful, seeing how a lot of us have chosen ours by fate of a funny discord bot!

Hirogaru Sky is also one as well. Of course, if you care about chronological order, then you should probably watch watch the first yes precure season before gogo

oh my god a precure fan that actually knows how to rank its a miracle surprisingly, i agree with most of things said in this ranking which usually i never really do when it comes to precure fans 😭. although i find the last bit with tropical and hirogaru (ESPECIALLY HIROGARU since its my second favourite precure season) a bit controversial, this is a decent ranking nonetheless alrhough i can see the bias here and there but thats all okay. i havent seen all of the seasons so ill give my rankings for the seasons ive watched (there will be a bit of bias in here) fresh: 8/10, this season was honestly so good and i believe very underrated and i think it deserves a bit more appreciation than the very little it gets, transformations were iffy (not passion’s) but it was 2009 so its understandable, action was amazing and pretty solid, character development was also very good and i think this season really gave us what we needed after the dread that was yes 5. heartcatch: 10/10. hands down, BEST PRECURE SEASON. try to change my mind, oh wait no you cant, you just cant. i dont think there was one episode of this season i didnt enjoy even the needless filler ones, every single episode was great, some were amazing and some were OUTSTANDING. transformations, perfect. attacks, perfect. action and fights, perfect. music, perfect. characters, perfect. story and plot, perfect. ending, perfect. usually i never really cry when i finish a show/anime i just get a little sad and move on. THIS SEASON WAS SO GOOD THAT WHEN I FINISHED IT I ACTUALLY CRIED WHICH I NEVER DO. HEARTCATCH IS THE BEST SEASON AND NOTHING CAN CHANGE MY MIND (unless spoiler you and idol is gonna be peak bc i have a bias towards idol anime literally my top 2 favourite animes are idol animes) suite: 6.5/10. it hurts me to give this to suite because melody is my second favourite cure of all time but it has to be done. suite was imo i guess not terrible just good. good. pleasing. something like that. hibiki and kanade dynamic was all over the place at the start until thank god ellen came in and saved the day. and i LOVED these girls as a trio i feel like it shouldve just stayed like that but no cure muse comes and then we enter like the final arc of the season/the last 11 episodes, which for me is where i think it all goes downhill

part 2 cuz i ran out of space this final bit feels so rushed because as soon as ako joins the team everything and all episodes are about her even the movie is pretty much about her. theyre just like forget melody, muse is the new lead pretty much. which i didnt really enjoy. they made her joined the team with only 12 episodes left so they cramed pretty much everything about her in there which is why the final battle snd ending felt so rushed to me. but aside from that the characters are very enjoyable especially the trio i loved them. the transformations were decent, action was not THE best but i guess praiseworthy, music was good but a lot of it was orchestral so i didnt really how to feel about it, plot and storyline was quite creative nonetheless. and i just think this season was decent and good enough for the most part. smile: 7.5/10. okay so im ranking this off of what i saw from gl1tt3r. f@rc£ so yeah this is the best ranking i can give smile personally but this is not a final score. smile is the team where my favourite cure of all time, cure sunny, stands which is why i am a tad bit biased towards it especially the character department of it. the characters were absolutely amazing each one got their own fair share of screentime (not really in glitter force tho) and they were really enjoyable and so fun. transformations are very memorable and great. action was amazing and the so was the music. plot was kinda generic tho but the storyline was good. not much more i can say except cure sunny is the best and i am her number 1 fan forever dokidoki: 7/10. again im ranking this off of the glitter force dub so this is the best i can give it but its not the final score. characters were so amazing i dont even think i can decide on a favourite cure from this season its just too hard. transformations again are very memorable and detailed. the action was decent to say the least. the plot and storyline altogether was OUTSTANDING. music was good enough. again not much more to say, not my fault saban cut like 13 episodes from this great season. happiness: 8.5/10. okay, theres going to be ALOT and i mean ALOT of bias here so bear with me. everyone always bashes this season saying its terrible and it precure’s worst season. i however this is one precure’s best seasons, it is actually my 3rd favourite precure season. i can understand people who watched it who hate on it bc I understand if it just wasnt your cup of tea and stuff but fans who havent even seen it who bash it really trigger my buttons honestly. this season was so amazing to me i was legitimately never bored it was so good i finished it in 2 weeks, thats the shortest amount of time its ever taken me to complete a season of precure. very entertaining. transformations were amazing. attacks were amazing. characters were a little generic but i found them enjoyable and i could tolerate them most times (hime was a bit a brat tho at the start of the season but she develops into a more mature and caring person). music was decent. action was OUTSTANDING (well most of the time). plot/storyline was one of the best ive seen. so, i know this season seems very bad ans horrible to what most fans say. but if you asked me, in my personal opinion, i’d say this season starts off a little iffy and boring and it takes awhile for it to actually get going, but when it does get going, IT TURNS INTO AN ABSOLUTELY ENTERTAINING FUN ENJOYABLE SEASON. so just let it get the first bit out the way, and then just enjoy the rest of it, or dont, because from what ive seen, alot dont. but i was one of the few who did. this is probably the most romantic precure season too which i can definitely respect. tropical: 7.5/10. yes we skipped quite a long way sorry about that. i found this season very funny and entertaining. although there were a few episodes here and there that were a bore, i think this season is great. action wasnt the best except some episode REALLY had some mindblowing fights eg eps 29, 45, 17. the characters were unique and a bit different from what we usually have which I appreciate and they were very fun to watch. music coulda been a little better but its good enough. ans the plot/storyline was quite interesting. delicious: 5.5/10. this season, even though its at the bottom for me, it is actually quite special to me as it the was the first season I actually watched while it aired. but i think thats exactly why i expected way too much. i was originally going to give this a 4.5/10 but i rewatched some delipa episodes recently and that changed my mind a bit so that is what it gets. characters were… yeah they were okay… yui was um, uhhh yeah. kokone was good i guess but also relatable. but the two girls who carried this season were 100% amane and ran. ran may be the generic energetic yellow cure but her presence was the only that made the first two arcs of this season tolerable, she is very entertaining funny and a unique character. amane’s development is very good and her arc was one of the best parts of this season. action was… where even is the action most of the time? the plot/story was um definitely unique but i dont mean that in a good way. music was ok i guess. and the ending was not that great, at least not good enough to make me miss it. just to sum it up, this sesson was very hard to tolerate or enjoy and became more boring with every single episode. I expected way too much. hirogaru: 9/10. once again there is a lot of bias incoming here as this is my second favourite precure season. after the dread that was delipa, i was expecting that they would try to do better this time and not flunk up like they did last time, well i hoped. and imo, THEY FOR SURE DID WAY BETTER THIS TIME SO AMAZING THAT THIS REMAINED MY FAVOURITE PRECURE SESSON FOR QUITE AWHILE UNTIK I FINSIHED HEARTCATCH. EVERYTHING WAS OUTSTANDING. plot/storyline was new, unique, creative and well-played out. transformation, all perfect (except i expected more from prism but tahts ok). characters, ENTERTAINING, AMAZING AND VERY WELL DEVELOPED (except i wish butterfly and wing got a bit more development). action, MORE LIKE ACTION-PACKED THE FIGHTS WERE OUTSTANDING well for the mist part. ending, also is one of the few anime endings that made me cry a little bit. I LOVE THIS SEASON SO MUCH. wonderfu: 6/10. yeah to be fair as soon as i saw trademark for this season i was already a little disappointed and not really expecting much. and although it gave me more than i expected definitely, it was still quite disappointing. ill give this season this, this is a great new idea but i feel it pushes the boundaries which is why i dont think it played out that great. the characters are quite interesting and can engage me at times, especially the cat duo. the action, well, there definitely WAS action which I appreciate, but it wasnt fighting action. i understand how they dont want to encourage animal abuse to kids but it was still a lil disapointing. the start of this season was very boring and uninteresting butnit got more entertaining every single ep which im happg about. theres not much to say about this season tho tbh. anyways yeah thats that.

And I don't really hate any precure season in particular, there are some things that I like about each one. Although there are some seasons that I thought were generally better than others, content is subjective, of course. If we talk about seasons with high expectations... If I expected a lot from Heartcatch and got even more then Go! Princess... is average? It didn't disappoint me, but it's not as good as everybody talking. The plot is ordinary, but the theme of dream in my opinion is not sufficiently disclosed. Heartcatch revealed the problems of each character in each episode, and in Princess there are only the Cure Team and their closest friends and this is not enough to show how dreams are important. Flora and Mermaid are boring, there are many exactly the same characters in Precure even before Go Princess. And if Flora's dream is good because it needs to be read "between the lines," changing dreams and doubts about the Mermaid family seemed strained to me. I also found the series to be long-winded and saying the same thing at the end as if it should have been finished 10-15 episodes earlier. And I don't like that the series forgets its own lore, and also seems to omit the characters in their development, forcing them to go through the same thing over and over again. But I liked Twinkle and Scarlet. Twinkle is a character with a bright but mundane dream the same time true to herself, but who has undergone a strong positive development. Scarlet is the best redemption precure because her malice is logically explained, she has gone through a clear development arc that does not require much explanation, like Passion and Beat. She has a logical dream, and she is also one of the smartest cures in general. Mind is not about grades at school. Scarlet knew how to see tricks. I also liked the villains, they are diverse, and there are funny and serious moments about them. And I liked the structure of the series, every 10 episodes there is a major action and development, which does not let you get bored. In general, this is a good average magical girls series but nothing more. Not as good as everybody talking and absolutely not as good as Heartcatch.

The general consensus puts both of those seasons as the top tier ones, though, so I'm not just talking from my behind. Feel free to share your own opinions about your favorite seasons though!

A, let's say, brave list I must say. Though only because Hugtto is everyone darling (except me and you apparently). I don't think it is mindblown to say Precure after Healin' Good isn't good. In fact, I think the only thing people will disagree is putting Healin' Good as one of the good one. Considering Precure began its Covid slump from Healin' Good (it sold less toy and lost a good percentage of female viewership compared to Star Twinkle). As someone whose favorite is MTP (My 10/10 season, and nothing else has come close. Not even Heartcatch.), the biggest lie people had when criticizing MTP is how it doesn't have good world building or it doesn't explore Magical World. If those people actually pay attention, it spend 25 episodes in Magical World (though to be fair, the last 3 episodes are combination of Magical and Non-Magical World). I genuinely question their integrity (or attention span) if they think Mahoutsukai only in Magical World until episode 9 and after that they are just "doing typical Precure stuff". And how in the world is its world building "lacking"? My go to example is always frozen orange in episode 2. After watching the whole season, you will come to know what frozen orange is, how to consume it (there are several ways, in fact), where to buy it, where they produce it, how to make it, and what factors that make it delicious or not. And that is just one food. No other season ever come close to the depth of World Building that Mahoutsukai Precure provide. Like, take Hugtto for example, where in the world is the source of Craisu Corp power? How can they become so powerful? The shows never explained as it is so focus on just make the drama work, even at the cost of contradicting itself (an example of contradiction, is how every damage the enemy done will be repaired after they are defeated, except when Emiru/Ruru has to lose their guitar, then suddenly the damage doesn't get reversed, how convinient). Sorry, I actually dislike Hugtto so everytime I tried to use it as example I began to rambling. Anyway. Yes 5 Gogo isn't a failure. What happened is, Washio, the creator of Precure (who has been responsible as producer for Precure since Futari Wa to Yes 5 Gogo) decided to retire. So Fresh had to prove to Toei that Precure can survive without Washio. Turned out, it could, Fresh even sells even better than Yes 5 Gogo, so Precure continue to this day as it become "too big to fail" franchise for Toei. To be honest, the list isn't that different from a typical precure ranking, though you kinda have to take both West and Japanese fandom opinion. The highlight to me are: While Yes 5 is popular in Japan, I don't think your opinion is massively different than people's opinion in the west; Smile and Dokidoki are good and popular season for Japanese fan, though maybe it is not really in the west. Dokidoki only sin is not making Regina a Cure. The toy sales would've rivalled Heartcatch if Dokidoki made Regina a Cure; I've talked Mahoutsukai enough. The fact that it gets a sequel should proof enough that the haters are in minority; Kirakira is kinda forgotten, like people remember Akira x Yukari because they copy their design from sailormoon, but the rest (especially other cures but also the villains) aren't that popular or memorable; Hugtto is the only choice here that make me say this is a brave list, because both the west and Japanese fandom thought this is one of the big 3 with Heartcatch and GoPri; Hirogaru Sky popularity in the west is simply because it has boy Cure, while in Japan is because of All Stars F. Hirogaru toy sales improve after All-Stars F. Before All-Stars F, the toy sales was performing as bad as Delicious Party. On its own, Japanese fan as far as I know consider it to be a disappointing season. So yeah, I think the ranking it quite representative of what fans think, though some is more inline with the west, some is more with Japanese fans.

@MarkS00NMcknown I honestly had no idea of the social stigmas of both the east and west, but thanks for letting me know it was very informative. Once again, there is pretty big bias in here, and quality is pretty subjective, so take this ranking with a grain of salt. But as for the mahou tsukai rant I 100% agree with you. It isn't my favorite season, but I just couldn't understand why it garnered such a mediocre reputation until recently. My lil bro actually likes it way more than I did, and he even liked it better than go princess, so that's saying something. I feel like the people complaining about world building are like the isekai casual fans who watch stuff like harry potter and one piece on the regular and wanted mahoutsukai to be EXACTLY like that. (not sure if these are isekai like, but you get my point) And I actually kinda agree with you too on hugtto as well, I think it's pretty overhyped. There were some things I thought it did pretty well, but I just felt it was kinda lackluster. And not to mention the "everybody can become a cure" thing, which I really didn't care for, and I also just did not enjoy the ending in general.
