In this video we are ranking solar panels in a tier list so that you can see which ones are overrated and which ones are actually the best solar panels that are worth getting! Each solar panel in this tier list has been reviewed very carefully based not only on things like the efficiency and warranty but also on the benefits of each solar panel as well as the overall value it should give you. I tried my best to cover every Solar Panel, but in order to do that I had to generalize some stuff because there are literally hundreds of Solar Panels on the market! The panels in this video were the most popular, so hopefully focusing on those credit cards will help you make better decisions about which ones to get.
I’m also ranking the solar panels in this tier list based on my unbiased opinion, and I want to make it clear that I was not sponsored by any manufacturer that I included on this list. This list is constantly changing as manufacturers release new products and update their current panels; but for now, these are the worst and best solar panels on the market.
This “Solar Panels Ranked” video style was a lot of fun to make, so let me know if you would like to see more Solar Panel rankings in the future!

Without price this just isn't very useful. It's ranking a Koenigsegg in S tier and a Honda Civic in B tier. People are usually looking for the best bank for their buck panel, not the best panel or the cheapest panel. In the end we're trading money for electricity, so both price and efficacy of panel matter.

You didnt mention that high temperature coefficient is a bonus also in cold climate region as it boost our voltage and thus increase our solar production a bunch in winter. Also you ranked those solar panels without having any price to it. I checked one of those panasonic panel from your S tier and came out with a 450$ price tag... I could get 2 or 3 panels of equivalent power from Trina for the same price. I mean panasonic is all nice and everything, but when your not a top 5% earner its kinda outrageously expensive to buy them. I dont see those panel standing the test of a price vs quality comparison.

Jinko Solar JKM465M-7RL3-TV 465W, Bifacial x 6 =2790 watts peaks at 3414 watts and 680 watts in overcast. 465w producing 569 watts. The only performance that matters for my set up is what I can get through clouds Nov to Feb. March to Oct temp coefficient doesn't matter because months before it even gets hot here the system is in float charge at 9am or earlier. If not for cost I would have got Sunpower but glad I got these instead.

Do you not have the Q.cells Q.Tron panels in the US? I've got them on my house and they are certainly a tier ahead of the older Q.Peak series, with better efficiency, better temperature coefficient and warranted to still be producing over 90.6% at year 25.

Solar technology move too quickly I don't understand how they offer a 25yr warranty they won't make these panel in 1 -2 year. So warranty is a lie.

I have a sloped roof that faces east and west; in the morning, there is shade on the west, and after 12 p.m., there is shade on the east. So, if I plan 5 panels on the east and 9 panels on the west, do I need optimizers on all of them to achieve maximum efficiency or Its enough to put microinverters on the east side panels and string inverters on the west side and combine both? Another thing is - is it advisable to avoid the 5 on the east and connect all of the 9 on the west in series for higher efficiency? I'm wondering - - If I have 15 microinverters on all of the panels, will it be expensive and ineffective because we get sun mostly on the west side and no sun on the east side after 12 p.m., so what is the point of having one on the east? -i am confused.. Could you please answer? I appreciate it.

Depends on where you live and what panels are available. Comparing best panel from one manufacturer against worst panel from another is just comparing Apple vs Pears, and will always produce these stupid comparisons. Shame Jinko Tiger Neo with 87.4% after 30 years wasn't used in the comparision.

I agree. I made sure to bring that up with the Aptos panel when speaking about its relative pros for certain areas of the country. To your point, many manufacturers have varying panel options, and I tried to select the panel from a manufacture I see most commonly sold on the residential market.

The benefit of using SunPower is the microinverter output. SunPower Maxeon 440 watt panels are paired with a 384 watt AC output. This means less inverter clipping. There are 6 different versions of the IQ8 series. An REC 420 watt paired with an IQ8+ is only 290 watts continuous. Newer doesn’t necessarily mean better.
@jackthesolarguy
@jackthesolarguy 7 ай бұрын
You are correct in that the SunPower can only work with the iQ7 because of the output power. This is why the new Enphase IQ8X will be beneficial to any homeowner looking to use high-wattage REC panels or others of similar output.

Would be interesting to hear what steps the homeowner will actually have to take to use the 25-y efficiency warranty. I envision it to be a pretty convoluted process, because the power produced depends on the light angle, atmospheric conditions and cleanliness of the panel. How is someone going to properly take all these variables into account? Will the HO have to invite a company agent to his site and pay for the tickets? (Because, he might be somehow wrong and not due any warranty!)
@pkdog5236
@pkdog5236 7 ай бұрын
The power warranty and a production guarantees are often confused. The power warranty is the ability to make electricity regardless of pitch or orientation. Think of this as a guarantee of the measured degradation in laboratory conditions. A power warranty doesn’t protect you against over promise and under deliver. A production guarantee is from the installer and guarantees the real world production of electricity. A production guarantee will reimburse if there is a shortfall of real world electricity production. Use the power warranty to compare the degradation rates between panels. Use the production guarantee to compare the level of risk in your solar investment offered between system providers. In my opinion ( I work for a large Illinois solar company) a production guarantee is the single most important benefit a homeowner can look for when comparing offers.
@weekendwarrior3420
@weekendwarrior3420 7 ай бұрын
My question is specifically about what you call "power warranty" against degradation of the panel. How does HO prove the degradation to the manufacturer? @@pkdog5236

@@jackthesolarguy Their panels are being offered by Renova Energy here in the Coachella Valley of Southern California as a potential alternative to Maxeon panels.
