axes do more damage but swords can attack faster, if I were to compare which is better, diamond axe or diamond sword I would pick the diamond sword because a diamond axe does the same damage as a iron one but the diamond sword does 7 damage with twice as much attack speed than the axe

the thing where he "insta kills" the dragon is part of the dragon's AI and it like makes it so that the hunters cannot get to him once the dragon is at the top and also the dragon is out of reach from the end crystals so its an op AI trick you can use to kill the dragon

Things to consider about why Dream crafted a diamond sword instead of an axe : 1. He can attack multiple things with the sweep. Axes are more suited to 1v1 fights. 2. It has slightly lower damage than an axe but recharges its full swing faster. 3. They are still early in the game and haven't made shields yet. Axes can break a shield's guard that's why it's his prefered weapon after the early game.

Diamond sword deals more damage in the early game when the hunters don’t have shields. And even worse is that Dream is so good at pvp. He don’t just spam swing swords but try to land crits with diamond sword. Very smart to be able to choose to craft sword with 2 diamonds even when he have 3 in his inventory
