My two cents: 1. Anna's focus on Vronsky I don't think it was all about Vronsky as a person but more her realization that she genuinely lacked a happy relationship and that she basically built her whole happiness around her son. But the love you receive from and have for your kid can't replace romantic love. Anna realized she lacked but wanted love for her life when she first experienced it. That, I think, was her ultimate goal and Vronsky was not only part of that future but in the society back then the key to it. If he'd left her, she would've lost not only her love, but her chance to a better future and the little bit of reputation she could've restored with marrying him. And after all, in this situation, Vronsky (unwillingly) was basically the only person who was there for her since she kinda lost all her friends, which makes her even more dependent on him. 2. I think it's no ones fault but society's. Like with Dolly and Stiva Tolstoy (imo) shows that just staying in your horrible marriage isn't a much better option either. Only Kitty and Levin find happiness and that's also because they can flee that harmful society to a life in the countryside, which Tolstoy idolizes. 3. The last part I think it was intentional. It made me mad, too, tbh. But if you think about it it's just shattering how that death of a person who suffered through that entire book, DOESN'T have that big impact. Everything just moves on. Society doesn't care about her. As it didn't care when that poor man in the beginning was killed by the train. And the ones who care may find it hard to even express that in a society that abandoned Anna for her behavior. I would assume that her suicide was somewhat a taboo to talk about. The only one who did suffer (even way more than her own brother) was Vronsky who's life was absolutely shattered with Anna's death, which probably is why I like him as a character after all. I think that absolutely devastating infuriating ending for Anna, contrasted with the more positive ending for Levin is what rounds up the entire message 🤔
@LisaFevral Жыл бұрын
It is definitely intentional that Vronsky and Anna are the only two who helped the family of that man who got crushed at the beginning, and they both meet their end with trains involved. Anna jumping in front of it, and Vronsky getting on a train with volunteers that are gonna be used for frontlines in a war. I genuinely don't get why people dislike Vronsky and how they can possibly like Levin, considering how selfish and horrible he is to everyone who isn't a tool for his own life ands happiness(and even then, he still acted horrible towards the sweet Kitty who was nothing but loyal to him, AND was 15 years younger)
@isaa1782 Жыл бұрын
@@LisaFevral Right? Finally someone's saying it. I honestly never understood all the Vronsky hate and the Levin love. People make Levin look like a saint and perfect man and Vronsky like a horrible guy (when he's not simply overlooked in reviews), and I just wonder if we've all read the same book? What are y'all talking about? It's so frustrating to me. I just saw your other comment that you want to make a video about AK. Please do! It definitely needs other perspectives out there

Loved hearing your thoughts on AK! Spoilers ahead: I think that the main difference between vronsky/anna and levin/kitty isn't the communication but the generousity. Anna is self-centered while Levin and Kitty are generous and empathetic. So when vronsky ends up doing charitable things, anna is jealous bc his world doesn't revolve around her. That's when you realize that Karenin wasn't the bad man she pictured, he was rejected by her and always opened to forgive her but she never wants to come back. Karenin will do the right thing even if it's hard and makes him look like the bad guy, while anna will do whatever she feels like doing, picturing herself as the good one who follows her heart when she's just being egocentric and nothing is ever her fault. V does to her more or less what she did to K. But she is the one who ultimately leaves K, V and her children when nobody wanted to abandon her. She even visits her son who was told she was dead to not know she abandonned him and then leaves again. I see it as the typical case of victim who ends up being the persecutor (without realizing it) and ends up so lost and angry and alone that she does what she does. Bc she never thinks of anybody else and never puts anybody before her, selflessly, in the end she makes everybody suffer and looses herself. To me part 8 is just to show that really the world didn't revolve around her and she sadly left nothing bc she didn't do anything (even if you can feel bad for her, the thing is she never did anything good). Sorry for the longest comment, I needed to let that out, I don't know anybody as passionate as you and me about this book :D
@youwillneverknow7165 Жыл бұрын
I love whenever we get unfiltered emotional Bella, she's so engaging to listen to This was such a fun vlog! On the topic of Anna making Vronsky her entire personality, thing is that at the time, it was nigh impossible for women to exist outside of their relation to a man. Their primary concern was to find one to take care of them because they were basically not allowed to take care of themselves, so choosing who that man was going to be for you was essentially the most freedom a woman was going to get, therefore Anna projecting all her hopes and dreams onto someone she thought would be able to get her out of her previously unhappy existence is not that strange. Like it is not just about him, he's a symbol and a getaway and a hope for a better life too because she doesn't really have an alternate way out. For women, any semblance or illusion of choice could have been enough to make them do desperate things sometimes. One last thing, I think if you enjoyed Anna you might also like Madame Bovary. It deals with many of the same topics but is shorter and much more focused on the titular character. Fair warning though, she is also tragic and occasionally pretty infuriating.

I'm from Russia and I graduated school two years ago. I'm currently studying law in university, but every single day I wish I chose either philology or East studies as my major because I love languages, different cultures and literature so much. Russian schools (mainly literature teachers themselves though, haha) put a lot of emphasis on the subject of literature. We read A LOT during school year and sometimes it's a bit overwhelming. It would be heaven for me if we didn't have as much homework as we did. We studied Anna Karenina our last year of school if I remember correctly. Sadly, I didn't get to read it myself since I was preparing for my English and Social studies exams to then get into university. I don't even remember what we've discussed about the book either 😂 You and few other reading channels have inspired me to start reading again and try changing my major! Thank you for making these precious videos, reviews and blogs, they probably helped and inspired a lot more people than you might think ❤

I read The Kite Runner during lock down and guess what, I didn't check the trigger warnings. I just started reading blindly, ignoring all the premonitions. Then horrible incidents started taking place in the book. Personally, I am a person who gets extremely triggered at the mention of child abuse.. So as I proceeded with the book, I was literally traumatized and started facing physical pain. I remember I used to wake up in the middle of the night and cried over the misfortunes the characters. The book is excruciatingly beautiful in language and presentation. It shows how words can have a strong grip on you. It was a rollercoaster ride of varied emotions for me.
