Kimberly Lemming's books remind us all that Black women deserve to be in fantasy stories! Cinnamon is everything.

I'm very new to the term "Romantasy," but as a reader of fantasy and romance, it just makes sense. Also, Ebony and Ivory took me out! Don't give them ideas!

Another rec I'd give is The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels series. It's far more romance than fantasy but it's quite light and fun.

The Folk trilogy by Lily Mayne is one of my favorite queer romantasy stories I’ve read this year and the third book comes out soon 😊

I have been seeing Fourth Wing everywhere and have never been motivated or inspired to read it but because of this I'm considering the idea of adding it to my TBR. The reaction you have for FBAA is the same one I had for the Crave Series by Tracy Wolff. The writing is not really that good (Especially in the first book) and the main character can be annoying at times, but it gets better as you continue with the series.

🏰🏰🏰I have not read these (yet!), but I would recommend Modern Divination by Isabel Agajanian (it's slow paced, but the two MCs are bisexual) and Bitter Medicine by Mia Tsai (contemporary romantasy written by a Taiwanese American author).

I am a lifelong fan of Fantasy but Romance...not so much. Just old school, I guess. That's me. Especially the 70s stuff where swords and sorcery abounded. But on the rare occasion I am not mad at it as long as it's got some backbone and spice like a Katee Robert vampire book. Love this video and your analysis. Even got me intrigued! I am currently reading Cruel Prince. Wish me luck...LOL.

I would recommand Lore&Lust it is kinda more Magical Realismus and not Romance it is a Queer Vampirer Story and it is I think still from an Indie Author/Publisher and it is really really cute, but the most of the Romance Plot is only or mostly in the first book in the other ones it is more Magical Realismus and Mystery and so... And when I am correct the Author is a Black Author also.

Hey Joel.... correct me if I'm wrong but I think romantasy is an abbreviated form for romantic fantasy and not equal part fantasy and romance. loved the video as always! ❤

Once Upon a Broken Heart is original after the Driologie Caravel so most of the World Bulding and so on are in Caravel and not in Once Upon a Broken Heart.

I agree completely with once upon a broken heart, it was really like “gosh that’s it?” Feeling. I do believe it’s very overhyped. I understand why fourth wing isn’t for everyone but I devoured that book and totally agree with the divergent/hunger games vibe

Of these I've read OUABH (it was ok, will continue the series, like Jacks as a character) and FBAA (might eventually continue series but unsure) and have Fourth Wing on my shelf. I'm currently 10% from the end of Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco and it has me in a complete chokehold honestly. It's marketed as romantasy but I'd say it's more fantasy with romance and has major Castlevania vibes. It's super queer and the main relationship is a poly MMF romance between a vampire hunter and two vampire nobles. Honestly, horrified that I have to wait until next year for book two! This book is for the bisexuals!

As someone who loves the From Blood and Ash series, both the main and the prequel series, you really have to just get through the 1st book and part of the second before her writing starts to get better. You can tell that she was still figuring things out in the beginning which can make reading them hard, but you can really see her writing improve tenfold as the story progresses. Like the prequel series is written a million times better than the first few From Blood and Ash books! Hope you stick with it but I wouldn't blame you if you couldn't 😅

A series I’d definitely recommend is the Last Binding trilogy by Freya Marske. It’s just soooooo gooooooooood. It’s pretty much gays in magical realism Edwardian England trying to solve a murder mystery but it’s so much more than that. I’ve so far only read the first two books, though I’m really excited for book three, with the first book having a really interesting conversation about what intelligence is and what it can look like as well as talent, power and purpose. The second book reflects what truth and lies can mean to people as well as trust and knowledge. So I’m just so intrigued what the third book is going to reveal about it’s characters and the overall plot! My only criticism of the trilogy so far is that there isn’t a lot of representation beyond white gay men in the first book, and white lesbians and bisexual people in the second book. I’m really intrigued what Alan Ross is going to bring to the story because he’ll at least add a bit of a class conflict.

Fourth wing had me sat reading 4pm-midnight and that hasn't happened to me in A WHILE. Immediately pre-ordered Iron Flame and I am BEYOND excited!!! I felt the same about Once Upon a Broken Heart though - I enjoyed the first book enough to start the second one (cause I wanted to know how certain things get resolved) but there was something about the writing & plot structure that just didn't gel with me and I DNF'd it :(

I recently finally picked up Priory of the orange tree because i felt like reading something new, and i think I'm slowly realizing I don't like fantasy??😭 Tge closest thing i had read to fantasy was the Carry On series where u don't really get info dumped bc you're supposed to infer the world based on Fangirl and harry potter (lol) and we jump straight to the main characters in the most important plots, but reading these complex fantastic universes w 20+ relevant names is not really my thing😥 I'll still finish it but I'm taking it slow. I think i prefer when worlds are seemly normal and similar to ours, but there are a few fantastic elements sparkled, if any.

I loved every fantasy book I've ever read except for priory so maybe it's not about the genre and more about the book
@grff_ Жыл бұрын
@@roselinelee I picked it up because it was one of the few fantasy books that sounded interesting to me :) I'm currently 300 pages in and its become easier to read because of the beginning of the romantic scenes and also I can finally tell most characters apart. I still think fantasy in general isn't my thing, especially with how straight the genre has been when it does have romance😭 i just like simpler worlds
