I just bought that Waterstones edition of Dune. Waiting for it in the post. Its one of my favourite books of all time and one of only 3 books I have ever read more than once. . I have several collector editions. when I saw that one just had to add to my collection.

dune really isn’t hard to understand i would suggest reading a few adult sff books before jumping into it or if not there are a bunch of “before you read dune” videos you could watch it was so hopefully understanding the world before i went in. i’m thinking of getting the waterstones copy but i do not need 5 copies of this book 😭

He has bat ears too, but with a bit of hair at the tip - it's so cute and looks a bit devilish lol. I was so sad to find out that black cats are usually the last ones to be adopted, probably because of old myths and such.

I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy We Have Always Lived in the Castle! It's not your traditional gothic book, but I personally enjoyed it for the atmosphere and coziness. It's definitely a psychological mystery, which, combined with the gothic atmosphere, made it a 5-star read for me. (SPOILERS BELOW) The book mainly focuses on Mary Katherine's psyche and isn't supposed to be scary in the traditional sense. Just like Shirley Jackson's other popular book, The Haunting of Hill House, this book focuses on mental illness. Clearly, Mary Katherine wouldn't have killed her family out of the blue. I just found it really interesting how she was a murderer but we didn't even know why -- unfortunately, my guess is that at least one of her family members physically, emotionally, or psychologically abused her and led her to develop mental illness/es; it would explain why Constance, who didn't murder anyone, kept Mary Katherine's secret and why the two sisters had such a close bond.
