i really enjoy this narrative.. can't believe Vittorio and Ursula really live as a couple for 500 years when most vampire couples like Marius and Pandora, their relationship don't really last that long.. hope i can find my soulmate, my Ursula.

That's kind of how I felt after reading it, my rock for all of the rest of my life, my true life companion who'd look past everything and remained at my side sigh it's only fictional I'm not gifted with women all my life they generally look past me no matter how many years pass from 12 years old and to 31 I'm at that hopeless point. 😞

I agree with you in the rating of Vittorio as an "Okay book", because I personally also found it plotwise as... okay, it's good, it's not bad, but it's nothing special... however, as an art historian, this book, as soley a historical novel, is *gold*. I think Anne Rice never really got credit enough for the historical research that went into her work, and how her novels are not just "historically accurate", but what I'd call historically complete. In Vittorio, I properly jumped up and down when she described Filippo Lippi and Fra Angelico's work (who are rather obscure when it comes to rennaisance) and she actually sneaks criticism of Vasari somewhere in there; she describes the political situation in the Realms of Italy to a T, and she quotes medieval theology as only a master could, not only mentioning Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Auqinas, but Marsilio Ficino, a close associate of Cosimo di Medici and Rennaisance Neoplatonist Theologist... I mean, I've fallen in love with actual people for less!! 😂 so yes, bottomline, plotwise this book is a solid three out of five, but reasearch wise it's a ten out of five and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the Cuatrrocento's culture, art and thought, even if the story is dissmissable 😂

This! Anne Rice does a lot in her world building. I’ve always had to give it to her on that. Like you said, it feels like a “complete” setting. Like the characters can talk about that time period because they were really there.

i remember reading this book years ago. think i agree with you: it wasn't great, but not bad either. but your recap was the best, definitely better than reading it myself.

Vittorrio is only mentioned in the second Prince Lestat as one of the Vampires in the introduction, I would have liked to have heard of more from them both now coming and going in Lestat's chateau or in modern day Florence

REALLY 🤯? I read both Prince Lestat books & don't remember him being mentioned. I think maybe it's because I read it after the Prince Lestat books so I had forgotten about his name (if it even registered) by the time I got to Vittorio's story.

I just LOVE your drunk reads and reviews... I like this Anne Rice story even better knowing it's not attached to any of the characters in her other books. COOL! 👍🏻... 📚.. I used to read Anne Rice years ago but some of her stuff just got too dark for me, which makes me appreciate your reads even more. You read it so I don't have to... 😝😁😁... thanks 😊..

I LOVE how you review every second of this novel. Your approach on reviewing a book is the best I've seen so far on YT. Very well done. I just completed this novel today. I wasn't a fan of this one, but I did enjoy certain elements of the story. I was rooting for this novel. The begining started great, but then the story lost momentum. I love Anne Rice nonetheless. I plan on re-reading the first 5 vampire chronicles novels, and then completing the rest which I haven't read yet (6-12, including pandora). Excited for the journey

Honestly, this is the only one (apart from blood canticle which went through one ear and out the other) was the only other book I started to think... wait, what just happened? it didn't bore me because its Anne Rice and Florence - my fav nostalgic city where I lived, but I dno it just went in and out and didn't absorb at all like the past books :( The Vampire Armand for example set in Renaissance Venice was good and stuck in my brain and had me listening more, but this one nope. Shame. Either way one of my fav series

I read this book about 8 months ago. I had never heard of it b4 --- I just happened to see it on the bargain bin shelf at the library & it wasn't a long read. Not that I mind long reads. Actually I like it when a good book is long cuz I get sad when it gets close to ending. But the fact this book was fairly straight forward & uncomplicated --- plotwise ---- I was surprised it was enjoyable as it was. I guess it was refreshing to read about a vampire that is the equivalent to your everyday person & not a rockstar like Lestat or an ancient whose seen everything since time immemorial like Marius. Vittorio is just a average vampre living his life with Ursula in quietude in their own neck of the woods. I think it might actually make a good VC 🧛🏽‍♂️ tv 📺 movie on a channel like AMC or IFC that would give it a good treatment without making it cheesy like tye SyFy Channel would. But my 1 regrer about this book is that Anne didn't explain WHY Vittorio could see the angels when they say he shouldn't be able to. ALSO, I REALLY wanted Anne to explore how the angels have to deal with Vittoria NOW that he is 1 of the "demons 🧛🏼‍♂️" he enlisted them to help him kill & the spiritual ramifications of that for Vittorio & had like a "Memnoch the Devil" journey.

Hi, Amanda! I've been reading The Vampire Chronicles for a few years now and I just finished Vittorio. It's one of my favorite series and I wanted to watch more videos of people's thoughts and reactions to the books and I found your videos! They're so great and actually a good recap on some details I don't remember as much or mix up now. And now I'm going to watch your videos on the series adaptation! I see in a comment here you're reading The Witching Hour currently (or maybe you've finished it by now), which I VERY MUCH want to do rn but also there are a few other books I wanted to finish by the end of the year, so I'm prioritizing those at the moment. If I don't get to The Witching Hour in December, it is going to be my *number one* priority for the first week of the new year before the show premieres!

Thanks for watching! I read The Witching Hourainly so I would have a frame of base for the show. I’m just going to say it… I absolutely hated the book. So just be prepared that it’s a whole lot of book for very little pay off.

@The Naughty Librarian Wow, there's someone else whose videos I found on TVC and The Witching Hour is his _favorite_ Anne Rice book (so far)! What you say, I actually think that's something we don't have in common with books- at least with having watched your Vampire Chronicles videos. I noticed you mentioned "pay off" quite a few times, mostly in terms of what happens in the present, as though the historical/origin sections are not major parts of the story and part of Rice's storytelling. Not to sound rude or like I'm insulting you! Personally, I love origin stories and learning how things in the present came to be, and given her other books and this trilogy being The Mayfair Witches, I'm expecting there to be quite a lot of backstories and a going through of the lineage possibly- especially with it being like a thousand pages. Now I'm so curious how I will end up feeling on the book but, like I said, I have other books to finish first!

I remember feeling suckered when I read this book. Primarily, because the story reads like a bad B movie about a schizophrenic vampire. Secondly, because it was marketed as a TVC side story. When, in fact, it's a standalone book that can't hold its own water. What's most disappointing is that I think that this book could have possibly been a decent launchpad for a new YA vampire series. It's got vampires, angels, a religious conspiracy, moral issues, and young lovers fighting against the odds. Plus, to me, the writing provoked more cartoonish (less realistic) imagery. It was like reading a graphic novel without the pictures.
