My favorite T. Kingfisher book is A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. It’s a lesser known book by her. It’s by far my favorite of hers I’ve read so far. It’s a fun cozy fantasy. I highly suggest you check it out.

The scream that came out of me when you said you were watching Murder She Wrote, let me tell you 😂 I own the entire DVD box set! It's my #1 go-to cozy show and the only show with over 8 seasons I've ever watched the entirety of. It's also one you can put down for a while and come back to without any issues because it never felt the need to add a million over arching plotlines. Hope you continue enjoying!!! I also didn't like Spells For Forgetting for a lot of reasons but the two that stick with me the most is how absolutely frustrated I was with how there was basically no real or good reason at all for everyone to suspect August so much, and that the final reveal at the end had me yelling "Are you joking?!" cause it was so stupid to me

My autobuy author is Leigh Bardugo. There have been others but she is the one that has been there for a while. I have read some T. Kingfisher's stuff. I have mixed feelings on her as an author, in particular her horrors, but she has a lot out so if you are really into her work you have a lot of options to pick from. Enjoy. I plan on giving her short stories a try next so maybe look into those. She also has a sleeping beauty retelling called Thornhedge, in which she follows the fairy who cursed sleeping beauty. It is another novella but it may be worth looking into.

For me, it’s Cassandra Clare... I fell in love with the Shadowhunter series when I was younger and time and time again, the books bring me back to reading. I own at least 20 of her books and I still come back to them from time to time. The next autobuy author was almost V.E.Schwab after readind Gallant, but I just can't get through her other books.

The great thing about Murder She Wrote is that you don't really have to watch them in order! @Pushinguproses has a really fun recap series for some episodes. She loves MSW so it's really fun to watch. My auto buy author is Richard Osman. His writing style is so fun and intentional!

I've read a few by T Kingfisher, Thornhedge and A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking are my favorites. Wizard's Guide is pretty much loved by all, but Thornhedge is not most people's favorite of hers but I loved the twisted tale on Sleeping Beauty. I've also read Nettle & Bone and A House with Good Bones. They are both 4 stars so still very strong. I plan to read them all at some point! Love her books!

Murder She Wrote is one of my ultimate cozy comfort shows, so I'm glad you enjoyed the first episode! My auto-buy authors are Tamora Pierce (always and forever, no matter what), Patricia C. Wrede, Aiden Thomas, H.E. Edgmon, and Seanan McGuire. I get why you and others don't like "Spells for Forgetting." I loved it because it was mostly vibes and atmosphere with just that hint of magic running throughout -and, of course, the writing style. Plus, the actual last few lines ended on an eerie note that I liked. I still need to read a T. Kingfisher book, but I'm slightly intimidated by how many books they have. Alix E. Harrow became an auto-buy after I read "Starling House" and "The Ten Thousand Doors of January." "The Once and Future Witches" is on my TBR for fall, so I'm hoping to get to it soon!

I’m an adult, but my top autobuy/autoborrow authors are writers of MG fiction. 1. Christopher Paul Curtis who is a MG historical fiction author (I have read all of or nearly all of his books) 2. Lois Lowry who is a well known children’s author spanning many genres (I have read many of her books) I could list more MG authors, but I’ll leave it there. As far as adult novels…I read a debut this summer called “You’d Look Better As A Ghost” by Joanna Wallace (a thriller filled with dark humor). If she writes another book, I will definitely grab it as soon as it’s available. And I love Murder She Wrote!

Murder She Wrote is a "modern" take on Agatha Christie's Mrs Marple❤. Another good show is Monk, that is a "modern" take on Hercule Poirot 🥰. Also, so happy you found T Kingfisher; she is one of my all-time favorite authors, she has wonderful middle grade books, horror, and fantasy. I wish you would have read The Once and Future Witches, I have it on my shelf and would loved to have known what you think of it.

T. kingfisher has something for everyone. Horror? Yes. the Twisted Ones is scary, atmospheric, has a great dog! The Sworn Soldier series is great and atmospheric with mythology and classic stories retold. And there will be more in that series, I think. Romantasy? Try the Paladin series. It even ties in mystery and some horror elements (really all her books have some horror elements). More fairytales? Nettle and Bone and The Seventh Bride. Kid stories?? The Dragonbreath series is amazing. And Hamster Princess. She writes the comic Digger also. Seriously, she is amazing.

Just so you know sky in the deep is a duology. It may not have worked for you becuse you didn’t read the second one. The second book is called The girl the sea gave back. Also the only book I have read in this video is spells for forgetting. I liked it a lot. I rated it 4 stars. It was a little slow but otherwise I enjoyed it a lot.

A sorcerer comes to call audiobook is really good! I did enjoy The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adriane Young. Love how she writes about nature almost similar to Rebecca Ross like you said. Rebecca Ross is just amazing though. Adriane Young seems more soft sci fi more than magical.

After reading A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking (which quickly became a comfort read), T Kingfisher became an auto-buy author for me. Whenever I see their audiobooks on Audible, I buy them regardless of the premise. Other auto-buy authors would probably include Sangu Mandanna ("The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches") and Isabel Ibanez ("What the River Knows"). Nicola and David Yoon used to be auto-buy authors but a couple of their more recent books did not hit me as hard as the books that I loved from them did. Until recently, I did not have any auto-buy authors, but I do have a lot of auto-buy narrators. I primarily consume my books through audiobooks and if I fall in love with a narrator's performance book after book, I am more likely to pick up other audiobooks they have narrated. Are there any auto-buy narrators that anyone here follows?

I only read 2 things by Alix E. Harrow - Starling House (meh) and The Six Deaths of the Saint (absolutely loved it). So hit and miss for me as well. The T. Kingfisher book was last month in the Owlcrate book - after reading Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking I am quite excited for that (even though the Wizard is middle grade)

I personally would recommend anything by Brian K. Vaughn. I love Y: The Last Man series and am quite enjoying Saga. Obviously you are unlikely to get them in single issue format but the bind ups are worth it imho. 😊

i'm so happy to see you loved t kingfisher!! she's an auto-read author for me as well and over the last year or so i've been working my way through her backlog (which is quite extensive...how does someone write so many books) and they all have been so great it's been such a fun experience!! as far as where to go, i either recommend the sworn soldiers books if you're looking for something in the horror genre, or i recommend her "the world of the white rat" series which is composed of a few smaller series that are all connected if you want more fantasy/romance!! ((if you go that direction and want to read chronologically within the story start with the clocktaur wards duology, then swordheart which is currently a standalone, and then the saint of steel series. you don't HAVE to read them this way, i didn't because i didn't know when i started the saint of steel series that there were more before it and didn't feel like i was missing anything! so you can start with any of the series and still have a good experience IMO but i wish someone had warned me about this before i read paladin's grace :-) ))

T. Kingfisher is hit and miss for me. I started off strong with Hollow Places, which I liked (4 stars), then came Nettle and Bone (DNF), followed by What Moves the Dead and What Feasts at Night (both just okay or even meh, they're just too short for any real substance).

I enjoyed A Sorceress Comes to call but its not my favorite that I've read from T Kingfisher so far (that would be Nettle and Bone). When I was a little girl I used to watch Murder She Wrote with my Nana all the time, when every I'm missing her I put down an episode or two. I enjoyed the Fractured Fables duology but I preferred her Ten Thousand Doors of January (but I am going to pick up the omnibus of FF)

If you're willing to give Adrienne Young another chance you should try Fable. It's easily the best one of her books I've read and the sequel Namesake is good too. I felt the same about Spells for Forgetting. It's atmospheric but underwhelming. Her other adult novel The Unmaking of June Farrow is better, but not by a lot. Definitely go with Fable.

I've read one of Alix E Harrow's adult novels, ten thousand doors of january and unfortunately it was such a let down for me, but i do think it would have slapped hard as a novella, which feels like the opposite issue to what you have hahaha! She has really pretty writing but I didn't get much out of it - a case of great concept, less than great execution! I'd like to try another but i'm not sure which i should try!

I love A Spindle Splintered, but I agree with you about the pop culture element. I thought those lines disrupted the flow, and yes brought me out of the book. And I don't want to say that I found those lines cringey, but I did and I especially did with the reference to the meme. But what I loved was how it gave respect to the story itself and the character of sleeping beauty in particular. I do warn people that the book does go a bit off the rails at times, you may know the scenes I am referring to. I think the main character is a bit more mature in the sequel though.
