Matt, I’ve been following you for a while now and I just wanted to let you know that you’ve really improved your content lately. Lots of hard work goes into recording and editing hours and hours of the same game over and over again, but you always keep up the energy no matter what. I think I speak for everyone when I say that your work doesn’t go unnoticed, and definitely never unappreciated

Hey Matt, just a heads up they fixed the RFA glitch so you can extend contracts in moratorium without it reverting to the qualifying offer on the third day so you can do rookie extensions as normal again

When you mentor your younger players you can see the badge progression using the graph below the mentee - so mentoring nick smith jr by lamelo essentially doesn't do anything for nick smith jr which is why picking up older veterans with a lot of badges during the off season can play a vital role for mentoring your younger talent
@nickjcirillo11 ай бұрын
How? It goes by what badges u have doesn’t it? Picking up a old player with no badges doesn’t do anything
@DanielA-du2dw11 ай бұрын
@@nickjcirillo picking up an old player with badges is what does it. ur right, an old player with no badges doesn't do anything but a young player with hella badges (lamelo ball) also doesnt do anything because there is no badge progression for the younger mentees (nick smith jr). the mentorship system only works when you have veterans with badges mentoring young players with less badges - this is evident in the chart

Can you please break down some of the advance analytics and basketball like true shooting percentage? What is considered a good true shooting percentage effective field goal percentage PER things like that. I always hear you talk about them in your videos but I don't completely understand them. I am a basketball fan but I don't follow it like I do baseball. I'm trying to get more into it and I want to understand these analytics
@marcr19611 ай бұрын
League average true shooting is around 57%. The equation is: Points Scored / (Field Goal Attempts + 0.44 * Free Throw Attempts). It 's a good overall measure of how good of a scorer a player is, taking into account that 3 pointers are worth more (despite people making a lower percentage of them since they are further out), as well as number of free throws and how accurate you are at shooting them Effective field goal percentage attempts to measure the same thing, but doesn't include the impact of free throws. Its a good way to tell how good of a scorer from the field someone is. The equation is (Field Goals Made + 0.5 * 3 Pointers Made) / Field Goals Attempted, basically calculating directly from the fact that a 3 pointer is worth 50% more than a 2 pointer. PER is a catch-all advanced stat which attempts to tell how good a player is overall, like WAR in baseball. PER is a bit outdated of a metric for various reasons, and isn't really used much by analytics guys, kinda like how Quarterback Rating is outdated in the NFL. A lot of the advanced stats in basketball (especially PER) overrate bigs like centers and power forwards who vacuum up rebounds, thus putting up more stats than many guards and smaller forwards. You end up with players like Andre Drummond and Mason Plumlee being rated as top 25 players when anyone watching basketball knows they aren't. Other advanced stats that are more widely used nowadays are EPM (Estimated Plus-Minus) Luck-adjusted player Estimate using a Box prior Regularized ON-off (LEBRON), Robust Algorithm using Player Tracking and On/Off Ratings (RAPTOR), and a few more. One thing I will emphasize is that compared to baseball, catch-all one-number analytics in basketball are far less surefire in determining how good a player is. Baseball is a much more predictive game because of how variables can be more easily accounted for due to the slower nature of the game, imo. The game essentially is a one on one between a pitcher and batter for the majority of the time, while most other team sports play much faster and involve multiple players in each "play". That's why I would take analytics with a grain of salt when looking at the NBA. They are important to contextualize and generally see how good players are, but they are not the end all be all. This is particularly true for catch all defensive statistics, as it is very hard to quantify good defense. The counting stats of rebounds, steals, and blocks do not reflect the full extent of defense, and how good your team is at defense affects your defensive advanced stats greatly.

I thought you might trade Nick Smith Jr since his efficiency to start off his career was not good but I like how once you traded Rozier and gave him a shot as the starter, his numbers improved. Good on you for not giving up on him. The Randle and White signings were underrated moves that fit the team perfectly. I was like wait RANDLE? MATT NEVER SIGNS HIM LOL!! Glad he worked out but Randle seems to be somewhat of a beast in 2K this year so maybe it's worth getting him haha. That NBA Finals game against the Grizzlies had me on the edge of my seat. Can be hit or miss when you watch the cpu run the offense but that one was entertaining.
