You probably have no idea that at the beginning of League One season, Wigan Athletic were docked 8 points and some people even predicted them to get relegated this season. Right now, they would be 5 points off the playoffs if they had those 8 points added back on. About the history as a club, it may shock you but they only joined the Football League in the 1978. In the 2019/20 Championship season, due to the 12-point deduction they took after the final whistle of the last day of the season, they got relegated with a positive goal difference. If they had beaten Charlton Athletic or Fulham in one of their final two games of that season, they would have survived.
