I truly believe any microphone above $300 sounds extremely similar so I could never get myself to spend anymore than that. If you're using a plug-in suite like Isotope in your DAW, you could probably sing into a Dixie Cup duct taped to a cheap single coil guitar pick-up and make it sound like a vintage U-87. If you want a good live/stucio mic, they start at $250.

I derive a perverse amount of pleasure from using inexpensive gear and making something that sounds good with it. I used to record my nephew’s vocals with a dynamic mic I bought at Radio Shack! The vocals sounded great! I still have the mic, too, and it still works flawlessly.

Can you pls help? I have sm58 it's connected using xlr to xlr Umc22. And then usb from umc22 to laptop I can see the music when I make a sound but no sound comes out of the mic as though not plugged in. I've selected codec in input and output of settings same problem. Any help?

Nice dude. I think im buying one. I make beats on a moc and ive got the itch to just do a project, i copped a zoom r12 and im looking for a cheap dynamic mic to get this done thie may be it. I enjoy challenging myself like this.. most mixingm doing most of the mixing right on the moc, and the rest on the zoom r12, and il be doing all the vocals on the r 12 and final mastering. Shoukd be interesting

Normalize (to -12db LUFS) or increase the gain (not the volume) on your guitar track once it's in your DAW.

Condenser microphones, in general, are more sensitive and work well with vocals. Studios use all kinds of microphones!
