@KadeLee2007 Animation studios work very differently than normal studios. Animation is veeery expensive. What they cut never got made, at least in the sense of no voice acting, no animation, not even a storyboard. Everything that Riot paid for WAS made and released. So if it really is just script, there is a pretty good chance it might get leaked some day, because that's very common actually

@@andrewl.9736 I'm not arguing that the work in the video is done great, but it's a repetition, while Arcane is something new, not only in terms of story but also animation. Many can repeat, but making something completely new or "different" is rare, as it's more comfortable to walk down familiar paths rather than unknown ones. This captures the essence that while technical excellence in familiar styles is commendable, Arcane broke new ground by innovating in both storytelling and animation techniques. The people appreciates how Arcane took creative risks rather than staying within established conventions.

2 important things about this video are 1. doesn't matter if this scene is copied, traced or whatnot, it proves yet again that it is POSSIBLE with free tools, something very encouraging for beginners with no budget. And 2. that it takes a TEAM. Any creator, especially beginners, should remember: You're not failing if you can't recreate or be as good as mainstream media because that's rarely created by one person. At the same time if you're good at at least one thing, one aspect of the process, you may be just good enough to help bring something big to life. As someone who works in the CG side in the movie industry, I can confirm that In most (if not all) projects, the renders include huge amount of additional data (many many AOVs) so that in compositing they have ALL the control they need to. The more CG and more VFX there needs to be, the more data is additionally exported for the purpose of "Creative Control".

obviously this is insanely impressive, but something people tend to forget about production prices is that a lot of it is having to pay people to make it. any time spent working on this requires you to eat and pay rent and all that. a 0 dollar production is an instant production. basically a millionaire can take a year to focus exclusively on creating a video game with the cheapest tools available and say they did it on a "zero dollar budget", but was only able to do it because they had financial security at the start. any money they started with that they didn't have by the end of production WAS the budget, aka a year's worth of basic needs. EDIT: this is about my frustration at people not understanding what a budget is and why things cost money to make. even if this was a completely original project made from the ground up with only animation and no writing or anything, it still wouldn't be a 0$ budget.

Yes! As an animator I can say using video reference to create animation is not as simple as just copying all the poses from a scene already animated. The process used on this video was something closer to rotoscoping a scene already animated. Recreating Arcane scenes at home is an impressive technical achievement, but the direct comparison, on top of a clickbait title talking about zero dollars can mislead the viewer into believing all the creative decisions made by Arcane creators would also be a cheap thing to achieve. This extends to all aspects of the production, direction, boards, design, etc. The need for click-baiting to promote a video that is already good content in the end hurts the entire art community. In this case it twists the perception of the cost of animation labour. Who really profits with this outcome are studio executives and cloud capital landlords.

@@joaocardoletto Completely agree. It's impressive the amount of work they put into recreating the scene as a fan, especially with all the from-scratch work they've done. But ultimately there's a reason theirs "cost $0" and Fortiche's Arcane cost $250M - it's the fact that the hours upon hours of work required to make Arcane would have been done by employees who needed to be paid for said hours, while this youtuber just essentially decided to do this on their own, for free. As well the amount of work they'd had to do to achieve the (similar) result (in visuals only) had been significantly reduced, via the fact that they already have a completely finished product to work off of and copy frame-by-frame. Like literally not pictured here are all the other aspects of production that were also needed to bring Arcane to life - design, concepting, storyboarding, pre-vis, direction, sound design and music, acting, even more 2D and 3D work, etc. Of course, none of that is cheap either. This video should try to stand on its own as just a cool and fun personal project, rather than click baiting about their budget costs, because it comes off as in bad taste and distracts from the rest of the video. It feels like it makes it more about diminishing the value of the work of all the people who made Arcane what it is - even if that's not necessarily the intention.

@@3rdHalf1 Which is why I don't like the title of the video. While I acknowledge his skill and creativity, claiming it cost 0$ implies that all the work and time he put into it should be free as well. And that's not even talking about all the things he didn't have to do (voice acting, music, script writing, project planning, distribution, advertisement etc.). There's so much more to a project than animating a single scene. The video itself is very educational and interesting, I just don't like the implication (whether intentional or not) of the title.

7:18 he's basically Jace but in modern times. Also, as a 2-D artist, I want to engage in 3-D art even more after watching this video. The process looks so soothing but complicated and tedious at the same time, however, the outcome seems so satisfying to look at. I can only imagine the satisfaction felt by the creator of this recreation, chefs kiss 🤌🤌

Dude, that looks so good! Yeah, you got the reference from the original episode and video's on how they created some of their work, but figuring out so much on your own, 3d model, rig, paint and capturing the look of the show. Very impressive!
