Well goodness. I never expected to have the views I have on this wonderful John Prine tune. I want to thank those of you who have watched it. I have been a Prine fan since the early seventies and played many many of his songs in bands back in those days. To this day I still play a lot of his songs when I play out at a gig. I can say that I even feel closer with the fact that I live about sixty miles or so as the crow flies from Paradise Kentucky. I own a small sound and lighting reinforcement company and I had the privilege of mixing sound for John on two occasions back in the nineties. The one I remember the most was in Fairfax Virginia or somewhere close to there. The guy was like a brother. He had no band with him just him and his old what i remember to be a 66 Martin D-28 I might be wrong about that but lord that guitar sounded good. He hung around and I was so pleasantly surprised when he obliged me (I should say honored) when we were back stage and I got to pick a few songs with him. I last saw John in August before he passed away in April of 2020. Lord I did my best to try and get to say hello to him at that concert in Central City Kentucky but just couldn’t find anyone with the pull to get me backstage. Folks I have many of Johns songs here on KZbin and will be putting even more up soon. Please take a listen if you like and have time. Godspeed John, enjoy that Vodka and Ginger-ale on the tilt-a-whirl and smoking that ole cigarette nine miles long my friend.

Hey GC, really enjoy your playing and singing. You should have thousands of followers, you’re a talented fella. I certainly can’t make sense of the YT algorithms! I appreciate your comments here, as I knew you had to be a professional musician, figured you were some sort of session ace, but the sound and lighting background makes sense too. The way you synch up your performance videos with the tracks from the studio is really good- you are a pro through and through. Thanks for putting up all of this content, it takes a lot of effort to make it sound this good! A video of one of your gigs would do really well, hope you can do that sometime. Cheers, brother! 🔥🎸🐶
@gcvincent39892 жыл бұрын
@@guitardog thank you friend. I have the capability of recording tracks in my studio however everything I do on YT is live. I just mix as if I’m doing a live show out of my PA system and send the feed to my video camera. I did use my studio board on a few of the tunes but just a live feed. Just trying to have some fun. I am currently working on getting a live stage video or two posted as gigs are picking up with the warm weather. Thanks again!

@@gcvincent3989 That’s amazing GC, the sound you get is stellar. Are you running a DI out of the guitar? And how you mic your vocals is spectacular- with that level of clarity I’d expect some background noise. Well done, friend. You know your craft, and you’re a helluva picker and grinner- no wonder JP used you! Keep it up, friend! 🔥

@@guitardog Thanks again. I have been into sound and lighting reinforcement for years. Use to do ten or fifteen Bluegrass festivals a year but either those damn speaker cabinets are getting heavier or I am getting older so I I have cut it back to a couple a year. Started on that when I was eleven started playing guitar at eight or so. Also play bass and mandolin. I have to admit I’m using some decent equipment. The vocals and guitar are recorded on one single overhead microphone it being a Neumann U87. Pretty damn nice recording mic. I cheat with the guitar also as it is a 1940 prewar Martin D-18. The damn thing is so loud I really have to concentrate on not letting it overpower the vocals. One of the finest guitars I have ever played. There were a couple of tunes I have put up using my stage guitar a Martin DCX-1E. It sounded pretty good so I uploaded those. I do use a Countryman Direct Box on the DCX when playing live at a gig and a Neumann KSM-105 for vocals but I am giving some serious thought to trying the single overhead just haven’t had time to try it out in a live setup yet. Thanks again and stay in touch.
@guitardog2 жыл бұрын
@@gcvincent3989 Well, thanks again for sharing your art and craft. You’re a Jedi master with the tools of your trade, with the talent to get in front of the mic too. Rare. I’ve had enough schlepping gear around, I feel ya! I’m just a recovering drummer from 30 years ago, and trying to pick up a new trick or two. I used to play a 7 piece ROGERS kit with about 300 lbs of cymbals and hardware. Can’t tell you how many 3 story walkups or deep basement gigs I had to lug that stuff around too. A guitar, mixer, mic, a few light stands, cable bag and 2 Bose S1s are as much as I’ll ever do on my own now- 2 trips to the car is the max for me and my knees. If you happen to be going to the Redwing Festival in VA this year, let me know and a beer (or coffee) is on me!
