They depicted dissociative identity disorder accurately as well. When it comes to too much stress, some people may abstract themselves a new identity to not damage the psyche of the original identity. The point being is that the more events of extreme stress results in more identities. Having anxiety can exasperate the issue.

I usually go Colonist, war hero. Goes from survivor of slave raid to defending a colony from a slave raid while on leave.

I'm going Colonist (usually choose Spacer) and Ruthless on my next playthrough where my Shephard will have turned Torfan into a personal revenge mission after what happened to his family and friends on Mindoir.

@@cobbler9113 nice, I normally play as a Paragade (Paragon with a bit of Renegade) using both full charm and intimidate in ME1, a lot of investment for flavor but massive discounts, usually I choose Sentinel build, become more of a support character. Normally I am polite and diplomatic but if someone says something I don't like, I go renegade on them. Admiral Mehalivich the Salarian on Noveria and the Cansole are ones I tend to go off on. The smugglers on Eden Prime I start off nice, them rip into them when they show how shady they are, I use renegade options when I meet Jack etc

On a small side note, if your background is Colonist, then Sheperd is posted at Elysium as an assignment. It's the Spacer and Earthborn background Sheperds that are at Elysium on shore leave. Kinda makes me think that the Colonist and War Hero traits were meant to go together.

@@zombiedude101z yeah, the Batarians are actually supposed to be the species that’s most similar to Humans. There can be good ones, but most of them are under an authoritarian caste system, with the ones who make contact with other races the most being Pirates, slavers, and terrorists.

@@joshhaney9769 each background has a small side quest you can accomplish. This pops up for colonists. Spacer allows you to meet a homeless vet that used to serve with your parents but got ptsd. An earth born has a former gang buddy ask for help.

Yes, this scene alone should refute all the naysayers who say this background is cliche and boring.(and tragic backgrounds, like really tragic backgrounds, aren't THAT common in fiction, people just think they're used a lot because good tragic backstories stick out so well in people's minds.) In writing the concept of an idea is nowhere near as important as the execution of said idea, even a really cliche concept can come across as fresh and great if you execute it well enough to add your own touch to the idea.

The sad part about the Batarian it the government fault for forcing their race to slavery and pirates. Hint the reason why when they attack an alliance ship and the alliance return the favor by destroying everything they did and show the council how the turians lost against these human. Batarian after that were basically shunned

Remember Mindoir After this quest , my Colonist/Ruthess vanguard began to turn her life around and overcome the trauma from Mindoir and Torfan. Also Liara provided some much-needed emotional support being there (Shepard later returns the favor and more after Benezia's death). I like to think she saw fragments of Sheps past during the meldings.

This is the best the background missions. The remainder of the series only pays lip service to it. We never get anything as well written as this mission ever again. The remainder of the series shrinks down the galaxy into a playground. In the first game it was a about exploring a wide galaxy full of mystery. That mystery is gone after this game. Can you tell that I much prefer this game than the other's? Because I do.
