If you press down on the left joy stick when you're taking a picture of the houses, it makes the villagers leave. You can keep pressing it for each villager (including yourself) you want to leave.

On my island I have Apollo and Fang, and I'm pretty sure they're dating/married and that they adopted a good portion of my island residents. They spend most of their time together sitting by the river fishing and singing together, that or the farm area. Fang is almost always wearing a purple polka-dot apron and Apollo wears work shirts; they both like crafting and cooking. They give life advice to Beau and Maple alot, learn about technology from ruby, and raymond gets along with them surprisingly well. So yeah, on my island Fang and Apollo are married and unofficially adopted 4 residents.
