I didn’t think I’d like koala so I never bothered buying it, but you convinced me a few weeks ago and I love it. I thought that the limitations would have put me off, but it’s actually the best thing about it. It’s so easy to grab audio from anywhere, mangle it and make a beat. I’m currently hitting about 3/4 track ideas per day with it. Thanks for encouraging me to grab it.

Liked your video I have Koala and Circuit and you inspired me to see how they played together. It could not be easier 1. plug in Circuit with camera adapter for iPad 2. Open Koala and go to settings and turn on use midi mapping 3. Select each pad on Koala and hit the circuit pad to designate it. I set up the 32 koala sounds on a and b banks to play from left and right circuit pads. You have to do shift note on Circuit to get to expanded note view. And now you have a kola sampler with 32 pads which I think is awesome.

To be honest if it is just portability you are looking for then you can use just one App, I would suggest that Caustic by Single Cell does everything you need without any complicated software patching and routing. However one of the reasons I like my hardware setup is the sheer tactile hands on tweakable fun.

Hello again! I have to leave again a meessage for you to thank you for your precious videos and advice. I was searching and searching. And it was difficult to decide to buy something because everything seemed either expensive and/or not intuitive to learn or it was inconvenient for a mobile setup. then I thought that the Pocket operators was a good solution but I did not much like them. And then i found your videos and it was an apocalypse for me! You explained everything in the level and the way I wanted. Plus, you have an LDK hanging by your tablets and setups just as I have!!!! That was like the universe saying to me: that's the One yoy have to follow. Thank you! it seems that with KOALA I put extra value to my cheap and budget equipment. I have got a Panda Tuna midi keyboard with 25 keys, 8 knobs and 8 sliders and 8 drum pads (all customizable by a pc application), I got a Samsung S6 lite pad with a very handy stylus, a Focusrite 2i2 (maybe it is not needed, but it's better for real innstruments' sampling) and a a couple of other staff. So much added value to all these. Plus, I really love Caustic and its capabilities. i will throw away Fl Studio, Reason, MPC beats etc. I'll just keep Ableton live and a bunch of nice plugins for "original compositions) non sampled or semi-sampled music or for polishing Koala and Caustic tracks.

You honesty is needed on KZbin! Though an ipad with apps is not gonna do it for me.. I need a simple drumpad sampler with midi in/out and also some stereo out and usb or SD for sample uploading.. Any ideas? I also figured that both the circuit or sp404 are too much jack of all trade gimmicks.. I need some dedicated solid and easy to use equipment.. And redundancy should be avoided, because I have no need for onboard sounds and sequencer, no fancy led lights and no dj modes - I should also save a few bucks along that way, sometimes less can be more.. For example if the Akai Professional MPD232 would have stereo outputs, it would be perfect - it should be easy to find or make and not so much to ask in 2023, however go figure.. 0.o..

Although I agree with about 80% of your opinions it’s sad to see everyone especially someone who still uses an iPad (Pro? ) give a negative opinion about them as a computer alternative. This is a great work around too with kaola . But Again almost all of our complaints about the iPads are kind of addressed power wise with the m 1 inside the next generation of iPad pros ..”stability “ being a very nice part of it . I also agree about GarageBand as a better version of the Logic engine and it’s “native “ so it ( for the most part except AUV and inter app which suffers a little between updates sometimes) always works and isn’t like you pointed out too cumbersome as an interface. ✌️👽

I'm struggling on which new ipad to updated, cuz with the same amount of money, I can upgrade my MacBook air 2014 into the 2017 one, which has 4 more GB ram and little better CPU power, and cheap fully fledged daw like GarageBand, and lots of great free plugins to create, mix, and master with, and it's storage upgradable, up to 2TB which will definitely serve me few years more.

For real though I thought koala sampler would be weak as I have had bad luck with Android music software but I finally gave it a try and I've made 2 beats already today and it's all I've been doing all day, i was pleasantly surprised at how streamlined it is, it's not complicated, but it doesn't skim on necessary core features that a daw or sampler needs to be worth using

Glad to see someone enjoy Groovebox as much as I do. I encourage everyone who reads this to write Novation/Ampify that a sampler inside Groovebox is the biggest thing missing. I didn't like to edit the circuit tone on my PC. However, I like the intuitive workflow of circuit, so I improved it by introducing "patch base" on ipad. Currently, I have high expectations for "Circuitry". I'm touching the beta version and it feels very good when it comes to patch editing. Patch base is better for patch management. When it comes to editing and control, Circuitry excels.

I can't really say which one is better, they all have pros and cons, but since launchpad has keyboard mode and you can assign pads into momentary cc value, I prefer launchpad, but launchkey mini mk3 is already good to go.
@SyntheticSan
@SyntheticSan 4 жыл бұрын
playpm Exactly. I personally intend to buy the MK3 Mini because I‘m often using the Groovebox outside but the MK3 37 keys seems to me a better solution since the new MK3s provide the Arpeggiator and Scale Modi (which are unfortunately not available on the mini). The good thing is the LaunchKey has been fitted to work with the Groovebox. I create loops in Groovebox and import them into the Launch App were I can pimp them up with LaunchPad sound packs for live or sending into a DAW.

I'm new at this iOS music production thing, but dang lately I've kept thinking about replacing my Circuit with an app to clear desk space, as well as to keep my workflow self contained. But unfortunately I hadn't found any solutions to replace the step sequencer functionality (to be imported as midi into my DAW), so I ended up leaving it on my desk as a controller for the iPad. Thanks to your video though I remembered you could actually export midi from some apps! I don't think Groovebox supports that sadly, but looks like they're planning for this to be released in a future update and more. I might be wrong though and that it does support it, I haven't checked out the app enough yet. If not I'm hoping I could find another app that does support midi export.
@playpm
@playpm 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it, for me I really don't want to export midi and do sound design again, I prefer finish sound design then sample it into koala, then finish sequencing in koala, export stems from koala then fine tune sound and do mixing mastering stuff ;)

Thanks for the video, just like to say, you don't need to add "in my opinion", "cheaper and better" on its own was fine, you wouldn't be stating anyone elses opinion than your own after all :)

Saying 'somerhing is better' comes across as general verdict on a topic and will be an immediate point to get into an argument with different opinions. Saying 'I think' or 'In my opinion' leaves a bridge for people with a different opinion and comes across more thoughtful. An opinion stated as a general verdict feels always arrogant.
@aikighost
@aikighost 4 жыл бұрын
@@Couchedking Yes, but only if you're an entitled arsehole who thinks nobody is allowed a different opinion to you. Hence the lack of need for the statement "in my opinion" all the time, of course it his opinion, since he's the one giving it. Also adding the "in my opinion" all the time breaks the flow, it was better before when he just said "Gear solutions that are cheaper and better", simple, punchy and to the point.

Also found that the sound out of it just didn't mix well with anything else. Just didn't sound that good imho. The online editor is also really annoying, chrome only, and its really unituitive and doesn't work very well.
