BTW A Star in England is 8. 9 is A Double Star.

That’s what I meant, our northern Irish system was revised in line with England, so actually my mark was A**. It’s become a LOT HARDER to get an A*, A* is equivalent to a 9, which only the top scoring people get

how does the system in ireland work? 99% for an a* seems crazy, its like 80-85% for a 9 in England

In our system the marks our scaled up to something called a UMS mark (Uniform Mark Scale). So basically the papers are marked out of 100 ‘raw’ marks which means actual marks on the paper and then they scale them up to the UMS marks to make each paper fair. So in reality getting around the 85% on a paper would get you the full UMS. Although they don’t tell you which mark you have to get to get full UMS but yeah it’s around that of 85% I think. Hope this helped :)
