@@Landrew-47 I'm 18, 6'1 260. I can touch rim if i try my hardest, but certainly can't dunk. The best thing I can recommend is leg plyometrics. If even that doesn't increase your vertical, you'd need to go for a cut or a body recomp.

@@jayceellis8507 I'm 5'8" with short stubby arms. (Have a 5'10" ish wingspan, but have broad shoulders) And I'm fat. So I'm nowhere near dunking. Back in highschool I could touch backboard when I was around 190. 220 now and not as active, so I doubt I could touch it still. But if I was down to like 160-170 I could probably just about touch rim. I have naturally strong legs so that's an advantage for me.

I played basketball with good jumpers, guys who had played for years, jumped rope, lifted weights to jump even higher, and their VJs were in the low to mid-30s. So, when I see these football players with routinely higher VJs, I'm both surprised and skeptical. That said, the best b-ball players had quick jumps--they could get up and down and back up again quickly to tip the ball or block a shot.

Its because training for bball players have been doing it wrong for a LONG time until recently. Footballers do a lot more strength work and olympic lifting. One of the best kept secrets in the world is that power lifters actually have really good verts. Training for overall explosive power is much more effective at increasing your vert than wearing funny shoes and jumping rope. I was a bball player. Im this dudes size but didnt have quite the vertical. Bballers tend to focus too much on training for speed at the expense of strength. Squats and deadlifts are absolutely the best exercises to increase your vertical.

The kicker having vertical is what is impressive, not his actual number. Most kickers aren’t light on their feet and don’t have that type of pop. They have leg power and accuracy in placing a ball whether punting or place kicking, which is MUCH harder than most people realize.
