Not gonna lie, sounds like you've got some kinda deal with Gerber. I've had/have some Gerbers that are just awesome. The strongarm is certainly not one of those tools. Tip and edge retention were pretty bad. I broke the tip doing the same thing you were doing, but I was trying to be a showoff and show my buddy what a sweet deal I got lol. Batoning a piece of pine caused the blade to chip in multiple places. I ended up cutting the blade into a different shape, using it for a bit. Maybe they've changed the steel or the heat treating since I've owned it, or maybe I just treated the thing poorly enough that it failed on me lol.

It was already ruined…. So it wasn’t a good ammo can. I got it for free because it wouldn’t seal properly. I see your point though

I have a sog seal pup, that knife has been abused, but it has survived everything I put it through. I use it for logging jobs.

Absolutely love mine. Never put it through nearly this much stress but it's good to know it will hold up if need be.

I loved this knife when I had it, unfortunately I lost it in the woods after skinning a moose with it.
