Jonathan the helium escape valve works when they’re in the recompression chamber, when there is a no water pressing on the crystal, it’s such a light gas it can seep inside the watch especially when your living in the chamber for weeks at a time.

the helium escape valve is designed to work inside in a dive chamber durring decompression and when normalizing pressure. not while actually diving in water. it will only activate in that dry chamber

Thank you Jonathan for posting this well presented video. Didn't realize the Kermit has bigger dot dials. Is a very good looking piece. The SD4000 is a very special diver watch. I never seen one in person but I am guessing the bit oversize case but staying at 40mm makes this watch perfect dimensions. The short time on production makes also this watch a very good investment value. I agreed the James Cameron is not for everyday. I currently have one and is massive. I only wear it on short outings. But is a stunning dial. Just beautiful watch. Hey that Daytona looks good on a 8 inch wrist. Again thank you!

Small correction on the function of the Helium Escape Valve. There is no risk of helium entering the watch while underwater. Helium can only enter the watch in a submerged habitat where the atmosphere is either Trimix (Helium, Oxygen, and Nitrogen) or Heliox (Helium and Oxygen). Even if the crown is kept screwed down, helium molecules are so small, they will still penetrate past the seals. (Helium is a single atom molecule: He, where hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen are double atom molecules: H₂, N₂, O₂). When they return to the surface, they need to decompress in a hyperbaric chamber. The decompression period is too short for the helium molecules to leave the case, and that pressure needs to go somewhere. Without the helium escape valve, the weakest point is the crystal, which could get blown from the watch in an explosive decompression.

SuperCase, MaxiDial. NOT ‘MaxiCase.’ Please! Sea-Dweller 116600 is maybe the best Rolex diver in recent years. SuperCase with 20mm bracelet is an unhappy proportion - the 41 is much nicer. And the green bezel is a peach.
