Thank you for posting this mini film. My spouse is from A-Burg. Because of serious injury that she sustained some years ago, we are unable to get back to my beloved city. Our son recently returned from Berlin and is planning to go back to Germany, in June. Says he's going to ensure that he visit A-Burg just for us. You absolutely have no idea how much that I miss this place.@@cybermunk2158

Love it. Aschaffenburg is one of my favorite places to have been stationed . Glad to see old stuff put to new use Is that the old Smith Kaserne/Fiori Baracks complex ?

Thanks for watching and commenting. All these views are making me want to return and tour more. I only remember the area as family housing. I don't think it was part of the barracks. Not even sure what year the family housing was erected, but I'm sure it was well after the barracks were built.
@richwalter3107 Жыл бұрын
@@cybermunk2158 my understanding / local legend/ soldier lore 🙉 from when I was stationed there is that the majority of the barracks had been constructed during the years of the Kasiers. Many of them still had built in rifle racks for Mauser 98's and horse stalls in the bottom floors. The housing units had mostly been built in the,50's according to what my married unit members told me.

Hello Walter, I'm a citizen of aschaffenburg, born in 1988. So I quite missed the US army times over here, but nonetheless I got pretty much influenced by the traces the army left. A lota my friends are actually the children, resulting from the former us-german marriages that happened. You're right with the fiori barracks. He passed them right hand going down towards Travis Park /city center. There even is still the old football team "aschaffenburg stallions" playing in the Schönbusch-Arena. And we have a baseball field near River Main, which is still frequently used. The old post chapel and the elementary school building at Röhnstrasse still exist quite unchanged. Greets from Aschaffenburg and thanks for your service! You guys did a good job!

It would have been cool to see the base when it was functional. When we arrived, it just closed down and I remember playing in all of the demolition/piles of dirt. We called the area, the Dirt Hills. Fun times.

The closing ceremony was in 1992. However many remained in the housing areas for babenhausen and hanau. I can remember that.

@@O.G.SPOOK1 I was only born in the 80s but based on what I know now, the 80s and 90s were the best times. I only experienced Aburg as a dependent kid/brat from like 96-2001.
