Couple things that can help you Matt - A dollar bill (or any bill) is 6 inches long and you can use that to get estimated measurements. Also carry around a gallon of water in your car to use in case you can't get to water easily. We have a truck that we have to do that with :)

From a mechanic for 35yrs, never add fluid to a overheating vehicle without the engine running. The cool fluid can Crack the engine block. Always start the engine beforehand so it circulates. Thanks for all your great videos!
@werlost98582 жыл бұрын
Actually a cooling system should NEVER be opened period when a vehicle is over heating. It lowers the boiling point immediately when depressurized, and sends scalding hot fluid flying. As far as adding cold coolant to a hot engine, it will NOT crack the block. Some race setups run coolant through ice to keep them cool. Not trying to be mean, but info is not correct sir.
@Michael-nt1hq2 жыл бұрын
@@werlost9858 that's while the race engine is running. If cool fluid is added to a overheated engine that is NOT RUNNING it has the risk of cracking the block. Professional mechanic for over 35yrs.

It was around 210 when I opened it. Definitely don’t recommend doing what I did, but I’ve done it many times.
@werlost98582 жыл бұрын
@@Michael-nt1hq you are correct to a point, but vehicles such as race sleds pump the fluid nonrunning through ice. He was filling the reservoir, not the radiator/motor. So it will have to be circulated to move at all. I'm not trying to compare history here. I've lived eat and breathed cars since I was 5. Grew up in a repair shop. Seen it all.
@werlost98582 жыл бұрын
@@PartTimePickers 210 isn't horrible, only thing I suggest is adding coolant every other time at least. I've seen snow in your videos before, and it would suck it have the block crack from freezing. Lol. Awesome video as always man!
