I rode a 250 GROM!!!

As a proof of concept, this thing is a blast! Theres a few minor issues that need to be addressed as he progresses with the build but as far as putting the 250 motor into the frame.... its pretty damn legit. Quality welds, quality design.... just clean up a few lose ends and this thing would be even more amazing!

Very cool idea guys. Looks like a hell of a fun ride. There's a big part of me that wants to see a Z or a Grom with a 350 Banshee twin on one. A nice six speed liquid cooled two stroke two cylinder. It'd be an absolute blast even with a bone stock shee motor.

they usually go off of the rpm of the engine so it's a different engine and same cpu not reading right as you can see the check engine light is on

Yeah they would, anything that changes the ratio between the Engine RPM and the ratio of the tire touching the ground would. Honestly, not reading off of the tire seems like a super bad idea, unless it was coming off of GPS.

It's the carrier from harbor freight.... works really well. The carrier has a way to tighten around vehicle hitch to keep it from moving at all. It's been solid for the grom.... wouldn't trust it with anything larger than a big dirtbike.

It would require a new oil pan. And the head is really wide. It can fit, but its tight. Plus its heavy. You can get more power from other swaps, i.e. 450.

Why buy a Grom... Puts a fantastic 9hp too the rear wheel. Just buy a 250 dual sport dirt bike, get tags and street tires for it. They put 34+hp to the rear wheel, and weigh less than the Grom.

Controversial The KTM 250SX-F makes 43hp. Yammy and Kawi 250's make 40hp. Honda makes 39hp and even the weakest 250, the Suzuki, still makes 38hp. My 34hp number was actually being very conservative.

But what it you want the adrenaline pump action of a small bike with the power of a larger bike? Not too mention the horsepower to weight ratio now changes... that coupled with the smaller tires and different gearing.... this is a completely different bike than a 250. I'd rather ride an over powered mini motorcycle than an under powered full size bike

i would never buy a 250 or 300. i learned on my grom and my next bike will be a 600+ ss. the grom is the best learners bike and is a blast to learn wheelies and great riding techniques.

+802 Everything I get that it is a chunk of change... that's why it's not for everyone. If you're smart about it, the swap can be done for less than a big bore kit.... and you get many added bonuses vs just going bbk. Yeah, you could put 12inch tires on a full sized bike.... you're not changing the bike though. I have a rc51 and I ride the grom because it's light, agile, insane fun and just a unique bike.... I like the grom because it's a little bike that's a blast to throw around at the track or the twisties.... I wouldn't have as much fun on a 250 full sized bike. But that's the beauty of it all.... to each their own. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to vomit all over those who do.
